According to various embodiments, a method is provided that comprises washing an array of DNA-coated beads on a substrate, with a wash solution to remove stacked beads from the substrate. The wash solution can include inert solid beads in a carrier. The DNA-coated beads can have an average diameter and the solid beads in the wash solution can have an average diameter that is at least twice the diameter of the DNA-coated beads. The washing can form dislodged DNA-coated beads and a monolayer of DNA-coated beads. In some embodiments, first beads for forming an array are contacted with a poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) solution comprising a PEG having a molecular weight of about 350 Da or less. In some embodiments, slides for forming bead arrays are provided as are systems for imaging the same.

Methods of bead manipulation and forming bead arrays

A method for dispensing liquid for use in biological analysis may comprise positioning liquid to be dispensed via electrowetting. The positioning may comprise aligning the liquid with a plurality of predetermined locations. The method may further comprise dispensing the aligned liquid from the plurality of predetermined locations through a plurality of openings respectively aligned with the predetermined locations. The dispensing may be via electrowetting.

In accordance with one embodiment, a High-Density, Folded Electromagnetic Coil comprises a plurality of wire spirals that are folded into substantially semicircles, stacked against each other, and have a common centerline to form a substantially high-density, electromagnetic coil. The wire spirals are electrically connected such that electric current flows through each wire spiral in series and in the same direction through each wire spiral.

In accordance with one embodiment, an In situ Bed Chair (IBC) rotates back and forth and has elevating and lowering bed sections. In a second embodiment, the IBC converts from a flat bed into a chair or vice a versa such that a patient can remain in place during the conversion. The chair has wheels that enable easy transport of the patient to other locations.

One embodiment of an enhanced flux-density magnet comprises a magnetic material with two magnetic poles and one magnetic pole-area smaller than the other magnetic pole-area. Because the magnetic field at both pole-areas is equal but the magnetic pole-areas are unequal, the magnetic flux-density is proportionally greater at the magnetic pole with a smaller area than the magnetic pole with the larger area and greater than if the magnetic pole-areas were equal.

Systems and methods for multiple analyte detection include a system for distribution of a biological sample that includes a substrate, wherein the substrate includes a plurality of sample chambers, a sample introduction channel for each sample chamber, and a venting channel for each sample chamber. The system may further include a preloaded reagent contained in each sample chamber and configured for nucleic acid analysis of a biological sample that enters the substrate and a sealing instrument configured to be placed in contact with the substrate to seal each sample chamber so as to substantially prevent sample contained in each sample chamber from flowing out of each sample chamber. The substrate can be constructed of detection-compatible and assay-compatible materials.
