This invention relates to a process to polymerize olefins comprising contacting a catalyst or catalyst system with olefin(s) in the presence of a fluorocarbon at a temperature above the onset melting point of the polymer. This invention also relates to a solution process to polymerize olefins comprising contacting a catalyst or catalyst system with olefin(s) in the presence of a fluorocarbon at a temperature above the onset melting point of the polymer.

Polymerization process

This invention relates to a process comprising contacting an polymerization reactor effluent with a fluorinated hydrocarbon and thereafter recovering olefin polymer, where the fluorinated hydrocarbon is present at 5 volume % to 99 volume % based upon the volume of the effluent and the fluorinated hydrocarbon, and where the polymerization is a continuous polymerization of at least 75 mole % of hydrocarbon monomers, based upon the total moles of monomer present in the reactor.

Polymer recovery method

This invention relates to a multiple phase polymerization process to produce polyolefins comprising contacting olefins and a homogeneous catalyst or catalyst system at a temperature between the melting point of the dry polymer and 80&#xb0; C. below the melting point of the dry polymer in the presence of a fluorinated hydrocarbon. This invention also relates to a process to produce polyethylene comprising contacting a homogeneous catalyst or catalyst system with ethylene and from 0 to 40 weight % of one or more C3 to C40 olefin comonomer(s) in the presence of a fluorinated hydrocarbon and optionally a hydrocarbon solvent at a temperature below the reaction medium melting point. This invention also relates to a process to produce polypropylene comprising contacting a homogeneous catalyst or catalyst system with propylene and from 0 to 50 weight % of one or more of ethylene and C4 to C40 olefin comonomer(s) in the presence of a fluorinated hydrocarbon and optionally a hydrocarbon solvent at a temperature below the reaction medium melting point.

This invention relates to a continuous process to prepare olefin impact copolymers comprising producing a semi-crystalline olefin polymer in a first reactor and then transferring the reactor contents to a second reactor where a low crystallinity olefin polymer is produced in the presence of the semi-crystalline polymer, where a fluorinated hydrocarbon is present in the polymerization medium of the first reactor, the second reactor or both reactors.

Impact copolymers

This invention relates to a process to increase the amount of polymer solute in a polymerization medium or effluent comprising introducing a fluorocarbon into the polymerization medium or effluent in an amount effective to increase the amount of polymer solute in the polymerization medium or effluent by at least 3% without causing precipitation of polymer solute from the polymerization medium or effluent, as compared to the same polymerization medium or effluent without the fluorocarbon present. This invention also relates to a process to reduce the viscosity of a polymerization medium or effluent comprising introducing a fluorocarbon into the polymerization medium or effluent in an amount effective to reduce the viscosity of the polymerization medium or effluent by at least 3% without causing precipitation of polymer solute from the polymerization medium or effluent, as compared to the same polymerization medium or effluent without the fluorocarbon present.

The invention relates to processes for producing polyolefins at pressures substantially below conventional high pressure conditions in two-phase conditions below the cloud point. The invention can involve a continuous system with optional recycle.

Process for polymerizing olefinic feeds under pressure

A polymerization process for olefinically or acetylenically unsaturated monomers is disclosed. The process comprises contacting the one or more of the monomers with a suitable ionic catalyst system in the presence of a long-chain, linear alkyl ligand-containing organo aluminum compound. Preferred ionic catalysts are derived from 1) bridged hafnium compounds, 2) silicon bridged monocyclopentadienyl titanium compounds and 3) unbridged, bulky Group 15 containing, bulky monocyclopentadienyl titanium compounds, and a non-coordinating anion precursor compound. A class of preferred anion precursors consists of hydrated salts comprising a Group 1 or 2 cation and a non-coordinating anion. Using the preferred ionic catalysts high temperature processes, e.g., at or above 90.degree. C. can be conducted to prepare polyolefins, particularly ethylene copolymers, of both high molecular weight and high comonomer content.

High temperature olefin polymerization process

Linear ethylene interpolymer blends are disclosed. The blends are made from components having a narrow molecular weight distribution (e.g. M.sub.w /M.sub.n .ltoreq.3) and a narrow composition distribution (e.g. CDBI&gt;50%). The blend components in a blend can all have the same molecular weight but different comonomer contents, the same comonomer content but different molecular weights, or comonomer contents which increase with molecular weight. The blends have either M.sub.w /M.sub.n &gt;3 or CDBI&lt;50%, or both, and can be multimodal with respect to either or both molecular weight and/or comonomer content. The blends are generally free of blend components having both a higher average molecular weight and a lower average comonomer content than another blend component. The blends can have improved mechanical, physical and/or chemical properties.

Linear ethylene interpolymer blends of interpolymers having narrow

Linear interpolymer blends are disclosed. The blends are made from components having a narrow molecular weight distribution (e.g. Mw/Mn.ltoreq.3) and a narrow composition distribution (e.g. CDBI&gt;50%). The blend components of the blend can all have the same molecular weight but different comonomer contents, the same comonomer content but different molecular weights, or comonomer contents which increase with molecular weight. The blends have either Mw/Mn&gt;3 and/or CDBI&lt;50%, and combinations of each, and can be bimodal with respect to either or both molecular weight and/or comonomer content. The blends are generally free of blend components having both a higher average molecular weight and a lower average comonomer content than another blend component. The blends can have improved mechanical, physical and/or chemical properties. Single or multilayer films having enhanced physical properties are made from the blends. Also, the interpolymer blends of this invention can be blended or coextruded with other polymers to further enhance processability of and the physical characteristics of the blends.

Fiber with unique elastic properties comprising copolymer, of ethylene and comonomer, having density in the range of about 0.86 to about 0.93 g/cm.sup.3, MWD in the range of about 2 to about 3.5, melt index in the range of about 4 to about 1000, and SDBI less than about 25.degree. C.

Fibers of polyolefin polymers

A process for polymerizing or copolymerizing ethylene, either alone or in combination with other olefins, comprising contacting said ethylene or alpha-olefin, either alone or in combination with other olefins, with a catalyst comprising a cyclopentadienyl-transition metal compound and an alumoxane compound at an elevated temperature and pressure and wherein the ratio of aluminum in the alumoxane to the total metal in the metallocene is in the range of 1000:1 to 0.5:1.
