An email system detects a user interaction to interact with a social media application, within the email system. The email system accesses a social media component that renders a user interface from the social media system and detects interactions with the user interface to generate content for the social media application. The social media component calls the social media application, with the content, and provides a response indicating that the content has been sent to the social media application.

Progressive functionality command and object access for object and other content insertion and modification are provided. In a software application user interface, when a given command is selected, where the command is a parent command having one or more child commands, a subset of all available child commands under the selected parent command may be provided in the user interface in proximity to the selected parent command. If a user needs more or different commands than are presented in the subset, a contextual pane may be selectively presented in the user interface having a number of additional available commands for selection by the user. Once the contextual pane is displayed, it may stay displayed until it is manually or automatically dismissed.

Save and synchronization status information is provided. The save and synchronization status information may be concise yet informative to a user and may provide an indication of the current save state of the document: 'saved,' 'dirty,' or &#x201c;saving.&#x201d; The indication of the current save state may be displayed in a consistent and reliable spot such that the user may reliably know where to look to find the document's save status. Other save states may be included, such as offline or error. The indication may be selectable, such that when selected, the user may see additional save and synchronization status detail, and may be enabled to rename the document.

Aspects of a system for automatically managing a pane in a user interface on a small form factor computing device include an adaptive pane module for determining when an event that affects the canvas size occurs, such as changing the display configuration or reorienting the display, which in turn affects pane management, or the opening or closing of a pane. The adaptive pane module manages the pane. After managing the pane, the system resizes the canvas and reflows the content as appropriate for a small form factor computing device.

Aspects of a system for automatically adapting an application user interface display on a small form factor computing device include a computing device having at least a processing device, a memory, and a display. The user interface is a functional landscape of an application that accommodates and displays, in various combinations, multiple regions of application functional controls and information. An adaptive user interface display module detects a change in available screen space for the application user interface on a small form factor computing device, and adjusts the functional landscape accordingly.

Methods and systems are provided for an improved user interface for displaying and scaling selectable software commands and controls in at least one of a first ribbon and a second ribbon. Underneath a first ribbon of top-level command tabs, selectable controls associated with a selected command tab are presented in logical subgroups or chunks. The selectable controls within the chunks are granularly scaled to accommodate different screen sizes or changes in window size. The scaling includes moving a subset of the selectable controls within at least one of the chunks between an overflow pane and the second ribbon.

Techniques to select and manipulate table borders as discrete objects are described. In particular, a table border may be selected without having to select a cell that includes the desired border. In one embodiment, for example, a technique may include detecting a selector in proximity to a border in a table. The border in proximity to the selector may be highlighted visually on a display to show which part of the table border may be selected. A selection may cause the highlighted border to be selected. The now-selected border may then be manipulated. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

A relationship data structure associated with a source resource enables methods to discover and describe relationships between the source resource and a plurality of target resources. The relationships are stored in a format independent of the encoding of the source resource. Each relationship between the source resource and the plurality of target resources is stored in a content-neutral format, and the relationship data structure stores, a location of each target resource, a type of relationship with each target resource and an identifier to uniquely identify each relationship between the source resource and each target resource. Accordingly, the relationship data structure allows a decoder to directly discover the relationships between the source resource and the plurality of target resources without decoding the source resource or target resources.

Efficiently describing relationships between resources

Methods and systems provide for breaking a computer-generated document into a number of components where the components have explicit relationships with each other. A relationship representation is generated for the components of the document. A user may then navigate the relationships between the components to quickly understand the nature of the document and its components and to locate particular portions of the document that are important to the user. In addition, the user may open, edit and reuse particular components of the document apart from the rest of the document and without having to open or edit the document.

Management and use of data in a computer-generated document

Self-describing portions of text or data are provided for associating with or inserting in a computer-generated document. Portions of a document, such as individual paragraphs or groups of paragraphs or fragments of text, are provided self-describing properties, such as file format type associated with the portion, style, font, list type, and the like. If such a portion of a document is subsequently linked to or copied or moved to a second document or to a different location in a first document, the self-describing properties provided for the portion travel with the portion to the second document or to the different location in the first document. An application receiving the content portion may consume and display the portion according to the properties provided for the portion.

Context-free document portions with alternate formats

A method for categorizing information regarding a failure in an application program module. The failure may be a crash, a set-up failure or an assert. For a crash, a name of an executable module where the crash occurred in the application program module, a version number of the executable module, a name of a module containing an instruction causing the crash, a version number of the module and an offset into the module with the crashing instruction are determined. This bucket information is then transmitted to a repository for storage in a database. The database may be examined to determine fixes for the bug that caused the crash.
