A light source useful for architectural lighting, general lighting, street lighting, or other lighting applications includes a plurality of light emitting diodes. A least some light emitting diodes can be sized between 30 microns and 500 microns. A plurality of micro-optics sized less than 1 millimeter are positioned over at least some of the plurality of light emitting diodes. A controller may be connected to selectively power groups of the plurality of light emitting diodes to provide different light beam patterns.

Low Z-height LED arrays with controllable light beams

A distance measurement system includes two or more line pattern generators (LPGs), a camera, and a processor. Each LPG emits a line pattern having a first set of dark portions separated by a respective first set of bright portions. A first line pattern has a first angular distance between adjacent bright portions, and a second line pattern has a second angular distance between adjacent bright portions. The camera captures at least one image of the first line pattern and the second line pattern. The camera is a first distance from the first LPG and a second distance from the second LPG. The processor identifies a target object illuminated by the first and second line patterns and determines a distance to the target object based on the appearance of the target object as illuminated by the first and second line patterns.

Depth sensing using line pattern generators

Multi-color flash with image post-processing that uses a camera device with a multi-color flash and implements post-processing to generate images is described. In one aspect, the multi-color flash with image post-processing may be implemented by a controller configured to control a camera and flashes of at least two different colors. The controller may be configured to cause the camera to acquire a first image of a scene while the scene is being illuminated with the first flash but not the second flash, then cause the camera to acquire a second image of the scene while the scene is being illuminated with the second flash but not the first flash, and generate a final image of the scene in post-processing based on a combination of the first image and the second image.

Multi-color flash with image post-processing

LED devices and methods of operating LED devices are described. An LED device includes a light-emitting element, a wavelength converting layer and a dichroic mirror. The light-emitting element is configured to emit ultra violet, visible, or ultra violet and visible light. The wavelength converting layer is configured to absorb at least a portion of the light emitted by the light-emitting element and in response emit infrared light. The dichroic mirror transmits the infrared light emitted by the wavelength converting layer, reflects the light emitted by the light emitting element, and is arranged to reflect back into the wavelength converting layer light emitted by the light emitting element, transmitted unabsorbed through the wavelength converting layer, and incident on the dichroic mirror.

Flexible low Z-height LED arrays with controllable light beams

A light source useful for architectural lighting, general lighting, street lighting, or other lighting applications includes a plurality of light emitting diodes, with at least some light emitting diodes sized between 50 microns and 500 microns. A plurality of micro-optics sized less than 1 millimeter are positioned over at least some of the plurality of light emitting diodes. Each combination of light emitting diode and associated micro-optic is positioned within a Rayleigh distance to each other, sufficient to both present a substantially uniform visual appearance and provide a substantially uniform light beam. In some embodiments the height of the light emitting diodes, their supporting substrate and electrical traces, and associated optics is less than 5 millimeters.

Rayleigh spacing limited and low z-height LED arrays

A light source includes a plurality of light emitting diodes, with at least some light emitting diodes sized between 30 microns and 500 microns. A plurality of micro-optics are associated with a light guide plate and sized less than 1 millimeter, with each micro-optic positioned over at least one of the plurality of light emitting diodes. At least some of the combinations of light emitting diode and micro-optics associated with the light guide plate are positioned within a distance to each other sufficient to provide a substantially uniform light beam.

Optical light guide systems for low Z-height LED arrays

Described herein is source sensitive optic that uses reconfigurable chip-on-board (CoB) light emitting diode (LED) arrays as light sources. In an implementation, the reconfigurable CoB LED array includes a predetermined number of LEDs that are configurable for a variety of illumination scenarios. In an implementation, the reconfigurable CoB LED array is multiple CoB LED arrays that are configured for use with the source sensitive optic as described herein. The source sensitive optic includes surface shapes that are responsive to the reconfigurable CoB LED array. The source sensitive optic is configured to provide beam profile and radiation pattern differentiation based on a CoB LED array configuration configured from the reconfigurable CoB LED. Each configurable CoB LED array configuration radiates a different beam pattern via the surface shapes due to proximity and surface shape geometries.

The image capture system of the present disclosure comprises an illuminator comprising at least one infrared light LED or laser and one visible light LED, an image sensor that is sensitive to infrared light and visible light, a memory configured to store instructions, and a processor configured to execute instructions to cause the image capture system to emit infrared light, receive image data comprising at least one infrared image, and determine depth maps, visible focus settings, or infrared exposure settings based on the infrared image data.

Use of IR pre-flash for RGB camera's automatic algorithms

A method includes capturing a first image of a scene, detecting a face in a section of the scene from the first image, and activating an infrared (IR) light source to selectively illuminate the section of the scene with IR light. The IR light source includes an array of IR light emitting diodes (LEDs). The method includes capturing a second image of the scene under selective IR lighting from the IR light source, detecting the face in the second image, and identifying a person based on the face in the second image.

Adaptive light source

A backlight uses an array of red, green, and blue LEDs in a mixing chamber. The mixing chamber has reflecting surfaces and a top opening for illuminating LCD layers. A desired brightness profile and better color uniformity are obtained by using techniques including arranging the LEDs in certain sequences and patterns, providing a specular ring at the base of each LED, attenuating the brightness of the LEDs at the edges, and using widely separated diffusers in the mixing chamber. The arrangement, selection, and control of the multicolored LEDs may be tailored to achieve any desired white point specified by the display manufacturer.
