The application discloses an improved interposer assembly with a molded plastic plate and stamp-formed metal contacts inserted in through passages in the plate. The contacts have redundant separate metal circuit paths extending between opposed contact points to reduce inductance and contact resistance.

Interposer assembly and method

A receptacle assembly includes a front housing configured for mating with a header assembly and a contact module coupled to the front housing. The contact module includes a conductive holder having a first side wall and an opposite second side wall. The conductive holder has a chamber between the first and second side walls. The conductive holder has a front coupled to the front housing. The contact module includes a frame assembly that is received in the chamber. The frame assembly includes a plurality of contacts and a dielectric frame that supports the contacts. The contacts extend from the conductive holder for electrical termination. A plurality of ground clips are received in the chamber and extend from the front of the conductive holder. The ground clips are mechanically and electrically connected to the conductive holder.

Grounding structures for header and receptacle assemblies

A receptacle assembly includes a contact module that includes a conductive holder and a frame assembly received in the conductive holder. The frame assembly includes a plurality of contacts and a dielectric frame supporting the contacts and disposed between the conductive holder and the contacts. The contacts extend from the conductive holder for electrical termination. A front housing receives the contact module therein. The front housing has a plurality of clip supports at a rear of the front housing. A rib clip is held by the clip supports. The rib clip has a plurality of grounding fingers that extend therefrom that are configured to engage corresponding header shields of a header assembly. The rib clip includes a plurality of mounting tabs that extend therefrom for engaging the conductive holder to electrically connect the rib clip to the conductive holder.

A receptacle assembly includes a contact module having a conductive holder has a first side and an opposite second side. The conductive holder has a chamber between the first and second sides. A frame assembly is received in the chamber of the conductive holder. The frame assembly includes a plurality of contacts and a dielectric frame supporting the contacts. The contacts extend from the conductive holder for electrical termination. A ground lead frame is received in the chamber between the frame assembly and the conductive holder. The ground leadframe has grounding members that extend from the conductive holder for electrical termination to header shields of the header assembly.

A male connector ( ) includes first and second individual housing portions ( ) engaging with each other, a number of printed substrates ( ) held by the first housing portion and a number of signal contacts ( ) and a number of grounding terminals ( ) held by the second housing portion with the signal contacts confronting the grounding terminals. Each printed substrate has a first edge ( ) and a second edge ( ) orthogonal with the first edge. The first edges of the printed substrates are hidden behind corresponding lead-in bars ( ) of the first housing portion and the second edges of the printed substrates are sandwiched between and floatingly held by the signal contacts and the grounding terminals. The second edges are pushed toward the signal contacts because the grounding terminals are somewhat stronger than the signal contacts. A female connector ( ) mateable with the male connector includes a dielectric member ( ) and a number of signal contacts ( ) and a number of grounding terminals ( ) retained in the dielectric member in face-to-face relationship. The signal contacts straddle on a bottom surface ( ) of the dielectric member. The male and the female connectors have a guiding means for guiding the connectors to correctly mate with each other.

Electrical connector having improved grounding terminals

An electrical connector ( ) mounted on a daughter backplane circuit board is used to mate with a complementary connector ( ) mounted on the primary backplane circuit board. Each latch member has a latch tab for bearing against an upper surface of the circuit card and reliably locking the circuit card. The base defines an elongated slot along a longitudinal direction thereof and a number of passageways disposed by two sides of the slot for receiving the conductive terminals therein. Each terminal extends into the slot for engagement with the inserted circuit card.

A connector for mounting a central processing unit module to a circuit board includes an insulation portion carrying the module and contacts retained in cells defined in the insulation portion and electrically connected to the circuit board. The contacts are made by stamping a metal plate which forms a carrier strip carrying a number of contact blanks that form the contacts after subsequent processing. Each contact includes an elongate flat body having a primary surface and extending in an axial direction. A soldering pad extends from a lower end of the body for carrying a solder ball attached to the circuit board. A retaining arm extends from an upper end of the body in an inclined direction with respect to the axial direction for interferentially engaging the housing to retain the contact in the cell. A spring arm is formed by bending an inclined extension from a side edge of the body in an inclined direction about a connection between the spring arm and the body whereby the spring arm is inclined with respect to the primary surface and the axial direction. The spring arm is engageable with a pin leg of the module for establishing electrical engagement therebetween. Since each contact has only a single spring arm, the contact blanks can be arranged in a more compact manner along the carrier strip with a distance substantially corresponding the span of a single spring arm therebetween for saving space and material.
