The invention relates to a biodegradable, magnesium-containing bone screw for implanting into a patient body for use in medical applications, such as, orthopedic and craniofacial surgery. The bone screw has a tapered head, a threaded shaft and pointed tip. The composition of the bone screws provide for improved biodegradability and biocompatibility, and the features of the structure of the bone screws facilitates guidance and placement during implantation as well as reduces the potential for mechanical failures. Moreover, the bone screws are effective to provide targeted release of magnesium ions resulting in enhanced new bone formation.

The invention relates to peptides including DEDE(SSD)DEG indicated by SEQ NO. 1, RRRDEDE(SSD)DEG indicated by SEQ NO. 2, RRRGDEDE(SSD)DEG indicated by SEQ NO. 3, and LKKLKKLDEDE(SSD)nDEG indicated by SEQ NO. 4, wherein n is an integer from 2 to 20. Bone substitute nanocomposites and methods of synthesis using multiphosphorylated peptides

The invention relates to biomimetic peptide-containing compositions for use, in particular, for application and or deposition on a magnesium alloy, e.g., substrate, to at least partially coat a surface of the magnesium alloy. The invention also relates to the coated magnesium alloy which is particularly useful for tissue and bone repair and regeneration applications, such as, for constructing medical implant devices.

The present invention relates to bone substitute compositions and methods of their preparation, and their use in a wide variety of clinical applications. The compositions include calcium phosphate, acidic calcium salt, basic calcium salt, sodium hydrogen phosphate and porogen. The compositions further include a mixing liquid. The compositions can optionally include biological signaling molecules and/or a growth compound. Further, the compositions can optionally include a plasticizer.

Bone substitute compositions, methods of preparation and clinical applications

Provided is a method for production of nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite particles, and nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite particles produced according to the method. The nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite particles exhibit substantially superior cell transformation abilities as compared to known and commercially-available calcium phosphate kits. The nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite particles also find use in tissue engineering applications, for example bone and tooth engineering and repair applications.
