A mounting cup for an aerosol container having radially outward extending dimples on the body portion of the mounting cup and radially inward extending indents in the skirt portion of the mounting cup; both the dimples and the indents being aligned with the longitudinal axis of the mounting cup. In the preferred form of the mounting cup, three aligned dimples and indents are spaced equidistant about the circumference of the body portion and the skirt portion, respectively. Additionally, the method of this invention comprises forming a mounting cup having dimples and indents aligned with the longitudinal axis of the mounting cup, wherein the indents are formed in the last stage of a progressive die stamping operation through displacement of the metal of the mounting cup into a recess in the outer surface of the pilot tool during the formation of the skirt portion of the mounting cup.

Aerosol container closure

An improved gasketed mounting cup for an aerosol container wherein the gasket is a folded-over and hinged sleeve gasket; said gasket being used as an alternative to the cut-type gasket. In the preferred version the hinge is distal to the body portion of the mounting cup. There is also provided a method for forming the improved gasketed mounting cup, as well as a novel punch for forming the folded-over or hinged gasket.

A gasketed mounting cup for an aerosol container having at least one annular sealing bead of gasket material in the channel portion of the mounting cup and method for making same.

Basket configuration for an aerosol container closure

A gasket for sealing a channel of a mounting cup to a container bead including at least one protrusion at an end of the gasket for retaining the mounting cup in position on a container bead prior to clinching. Six such protrusions can be equidistantly positioned about the gasket. A gasketed mounting cup including such protrusions is also disclosed. A method for manufacturing such a gasketed mounting cup is disclosed as well.

A mounting cup for closing an aerosol container is strengthened by configuring the terminal end of the profile portion of the mounting cup contiguous to the body portion of the mounting cup with an 'S'-like shaped segment. The 'S'-like shaped segment comprises a section contiguous to the body portion and a section distal to the body portion. The contiguous section is disposed a greater distance from the top of the body portion than the distal section, creating a panel depth in the 'S'-like shaped segment contiguous to the body portion.

Mounting cup for pressure filling

The present invention provides a closure for a container, preferably a plastic aerosol container on which there is provided a specially designed neck. A metal cup having vent slots is fittable on the container top and neck. The cup has formed at its periphery an inwardly curled tuck and a rounded top portion which fits over a rounded annular shoulder on the neck. The radius of the rounded annular shoulder of the neck is larger than the radius of the rounded top portion of the cup. The neck further includes a tuck support member having a horizontal ledge. A tuck pocket is formed between the annular shoulder and the tuck support member to accomodate the tuck in the cup. Sealing of the cup to the container occurs at the annular shoulder of the neck by pressure of a pressure ring in concert with a pilot of a closure die on the cup top portion. Because of the difference in radii between the rounded annular shoulder and the rounded top portion of the cup, the cup is pressure sealed to the annular shoulder at at least two points on the sides of the annular shoulder. The tuck of the cup is inserted in the tuck pocket and the ledge of the tuck support member prevents the tuck from unravelling during sealing.

Closure for containers

A die for forming flanged can ends is provided according to the invention. The die includes an upper punch section including a hard ring having inner and outer rounded lower corners and a punch cut edge having an upwardly extending curvilinear female profile in the lower inner portion thereof which forms an annular gap between the punch cut edge and the hard ring. A die section is disposed beneath the punch section comprising an inner die, a first upwardly biased draw ring mounted outwardly of the die and in inner contacting relationship with the punch cut edge. A second draw ring is mounted adjacent the inner die and in contacting relationship with the hard ring and a fixed wipe-up ring is located between the first and second draw rings. The upper portion of the wipe-up ring has a male profile matable with the female profile of the punch cut edge in the annular gap and has a downwardly curved inner portion which is matably engagable with the outer corner of said hard ring. The burr formed in the outer corner of the blank after cutting in the die is disposed inwardly at the end of the stamping operation. Moreover, the die promotes the formation of uniform flange lengths.

Metal container end die

A non-detachable lever tab for easy open container ends with a tongue, the tip of which is staked to the central panel wall by means of an integral rivet. The lancing which forms the tongue terminates in a pair of nail piercings, which afford a high resistance to tear through. The tongue of the lever tab is coined to substantially increase its resistance to fracture under repeated bending.

Combined can and closure

A full panel, easy-open container end closure includes a double-folded band formed in the removable panel adjacent the peripheral score, and an opening tab having a nose portion disposed adjacent the peripheral score and band. The tab is secured to a hinge section defined in the removable panel by a rupturable, bowed, generally U-shaped ancillary score which is disposed with its two ends adjacent the band and tab nose portion. This construction effectively reduces the intial rearward force required to effect panel removal.

Container end closure

A bulge, formed in and cut from an end closure central panel, is reformed into an opening tab by reducing the bulge height and its sidewall angle to extend its brim horizontally outward under the rim of the opening from which the bulge is cut, and the brim is coined to further extend it under the rim. Alternatively, an outwardly extending shoulder can be formed in the bulge sidewall, and ironed out to cooperate with the reduction in bulge height in extending the bulge brim outward under the rim. During reforming and coining, the bulge/opening tab is held in a substantially horizontally fixed position relative to the rim to provide a uniform brim-to-rim underlap.
