A rigidizing device includes a plurality of layers and an inlet between the elongate flexible tube and the outer layer and configured to attach to a source of vacuum or pressure. The rigidizing device is configured to have a rigid configuration when vacuum or pressure is applied through the inlet and a flexible configuration when vacuum or pressure is not applied through the inlet.

A rigidizing device includes an elongate flexible tube having a lumen extending therethrough, a variable stiffness layer, a bladder layer configured to push against the variable stiffness layer when pressure is applied, and a hemostasis valve integrated at a proximal end of the elongate flexible tube in fluid communication with the lumen wherein the rigidizing device is configured to change between a flexible configuration and a rigid configuration in which the bladder layer limits the plurality of strand lengths from moving relative to each other when pressure is applied.

Method of performing one or more procedures within a patient's vasculature using a rigidizing device. The rigidizing device may be inserted through the patient's vasculature in a flexible configuration to a target region, and rigidized to form a stable base from which one or more procedures may be performed. Examples of procedures that may be performed include removing or bypassing an occlusion, placing a stent, mitral valve repair, access and/or treatment of chronic total occlusions, etc.

Devices and methods to prevent inadvertent motion of dynamically rigidizing apparatuses

A rigidizing device includes an elongate flexible tube, a braid layer positioned over the elongate flexible tube, an outer layer over the flexible tube and the braid layer, and an inlet between the elongate flexible tube and the outer layer and configured to attach to a source of vacuum or pressure. The braid layer has a plurality of strands braided together at a braid angle of 5-40 degrees relative to a longitudinal axis of the elongate flexible tube when the elongate flexible tube is straight. The rigidizing device is configured to have a rigid configuration when vacuum or pressure is applied through the inlet and a flexible configuration when vacuum or pressure is not applied through the inlet. The braid angle is configured to change as the rigidizing device bends when the rigidizing device is in the flexible configuration.

An inflatable structure for use in biological lumens and methods of making and using the same are disclosed. The structure can have an inflatable balloon encircled by a shell. The shell can have proximal and distal tapered necks, longitudinally-oriented flutes, and apertures at the proximal and distal ends of the shell. The apertures can be recessed in the flutes in the necks. The shell can also have fiber reinforced walls.

Inflatable medical devices

An inflatable structure for use in biological lumens and methods of making and using the same are disclosed. The structure can have an inflatable balloon formed into a plurality of cells encircled by a shell. A strap can extend between the cells. The shell can have proximal and distal tapered necks, longitudinally-oriented flutes, and apertures at the proximal and distal ends of the shell. The shell can include a reinforcement having tapered sections over the necks and strips extending between the tapered sections. A semi-compliant or compliant balloon can be placed around the outside of the inflatable structure.

Reinforced inflatable medical devices

Distal anastomosis devices and associated methodology are described herein. Connector and connector components as well as tools associated therewith are disclosed. The connectors are preferably adapted to produce an end-to-side anastomosis at a graft/coronary artery junction. A fitting alone, or a fitting in combination with a collar may be used as a connector. Each fitting may be deployed by deflecting its shape to provide clearance for a rear segment that rotates about adjoining hinge section(s) so to fit the connector within an aperture formed in a host vessel. Upon return to a substantially relaxed position, a rear segment anchors the fitting it in place. The distal fitting may include additional side features for interfacing with the host vessel/coronary artery. The collar may include features complimentary to those of a fitting and provisions for securing the graft vessel.

A vascular prosthesis ( ) comprises pericardial, fascial, or other tissue ( ) formed over a tubular support frame. A first exemplary tubular support frame comprises an inner helical member ( ) and an outer helical member ( ), where the tissue is rolled and captured therebetween. A second exemplary tubular support frame ( ) comprises a plurality of ring elements ( ) which are located alternately on the outside and on the inside of the rolled tissue. Other exemplary frames employ fasteners ( ) for penetrating the rolled tissue and attaching tissue to frame elements. The tissue is preferably obtained from the patient who is to receive the vascular prosthesis, with the tissue being mounted over the frame immediately prior to use.

Method and apparatus for forming vascular prostheses

A system and apparatus are disclosed for preparing tubular prostheses from a sheet of tissue and inner and outer helical frame components. The tissue is wrapped around the inner frame component over an assembly mandrel. The outer helical frame component is then transferred from an elongate support over a lead screw, onto the assembly mandrel by rotating the assembly mandrel and lead screw in a manner which positions the outer helical frame component in an appropriate manner. Optionally, the mandrel is collapsed to facilitate removal of the completed tubular prosthesis.
