The present disclosure provides a polyolefin-based composition suitable for use as adhesives and/or tie-layer adhesive compositions as well as a multi-layered structure made from and/or containing the polyolefin-based composition. The polyolefin-based composition is made from and/or contains (a) a grafted polyolefin composition, (b) a first polymer composition, (c) a polypropylene-containing blend composition, and (d) optionally, an additives composition having one or more additives.

Polyolefin-based compositions, adhesives, and related multi-layered structures prepared therefrom

A process of extruding a blend of an irradiated first propylene polymer and a non-irradiated second propylene polymer, where the first propylene polymer comprises a non-phenolic stabilizer. The irradiation of the first propylene polymer extrudate is conducted in a reduced oxygen environment, and the irradiated first propylene polymer and the non-irradiated second propylene polymer are blended at a temperature below their respective melting points. The blend has a viscosity retention of 20 to 35%.

Controlled rheology formulations containing high melt strength polypropylene for extrusion coating

Disclosed is a method for preparing polyolefin-based adhesives. In the method, a maleated polyolefin is blended, in sequence, with a polyolefin elastomer and then with a linear low density polyethylene. The polyolefin-based adhesive made according to the method of the invention shows improved clarity and adhesion in multilayer polyolefin films.

Preparation of polyolefin-based adhesives

Disclosed is a polyolefin-based adhesive. The adhesive comprises a maleated polyolefin. The maleated polyolefin is let-down in a linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE). The let-down LLDPE is selected from those which have a melt index MIwithin the range of 0.1 dg/min to 5 dg/min, preferably from 1 dg/min to 3 dg/min, and comprises a TREF soluble fraction having an intrinsic viscosity less than 0.9 dl/g. The adhesive composition can be used in multilayer polyolefin films and multilayer pipes.

Adhesive compositions suitable for use as tie-layer adhesives in multi-layer films and sheets are provided. The adhesive compositions contain an olefin polymer base resin, a modified polyolefin and a paraffinic liquid hydrocarbon.

The present invention relates to a process comprising extruding a blend of an first propylene polymer comprising a non-phenolic stabilizer and a non-irradiated second propylene polymer, wherein the irradiation of the first propylene polymer was conducted in a reduced oxygen environment, and the irradiated first propylene polymer and the non-irradiated second propylene polymer were blended at a temperature below the melting point of the first and second propylene polymers.

Extrusion processes using high melt strength polypropylene

Compositions suitable for use as adhesives in multi-layer structures. The compositions comprise a blend of an ethylene copolymer of butene and a propylene-based polymer; a polyolefin grafted with an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid or acid derivative; and an olefin polymer resin different than the ethylene copolymer of butene, the propylene-based polymer and the grafted polyolefin.

Butene copolymer-containing adhesive blends

A laminate and a process for making it are disclosed. The laminate comprises a metal substrate and a polymer layer that adheres to at least one plasma-treated surface of the metal substrate. The polymer layer comprises a blend of a first polyolefin and a grafted polyolefin. The laminate can be prepared by plasma-treating at least one surface of a metal substrate and extruding onto the plasma-treated surface a polymer layer comprising a blend of a first polyolefin and a grafted polyolefin.

Polyolefin-metal laminate

A process of extruding a blend of an irradiated extrudate of a first propylene polymer and a non-irradiated second propylene polymer, where the first propylene polymer comprises a non-phenolic stabilizer. The irradiation of the first propylene polymer extrudate is conducted in a reduced oxygen environment, and the irradiated extrudate of the first propylene polymer and the non-irradiated second propylene polymer are blended at a temperature below their respective melting points. The blend has an ARPSW of &#x2266;3.0 micron.

Co-continuous heterophase polymer compositions containing high melt strength polypropylene for extrusion coating

Disclosed is an adhesive composition. The adhesive composition comprises from 30 wt % to 65 wt % of a polyolefin, 15 wt % to 65 wt % of a conjugated diene-based elastomer, 0.5 wt % to 15 wt % of an olefin elastomer, and 0.5 wt % to 25 wt % of a maleated polyolefin. The weight ratio of olefin elastomer to conjugated diene-based elastomer is within the range of 0.04 to 1. The adhesive of the invention has improved adhesion to styrenic polymer layer, barrier layer, and polyolefin layer. It is suitable for extruded multilayer films, sheets, and many other related applications.

Adhesive composition

Adhesive compositions comprising a first copolymer of butene-1 and propylene; a second copolymer of ethylene and a comonomer selected from butene-1, hexene-1, and octene-1; a polyolefin grafted with an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid or acid derivative; and an olefin polymer resin, and multilayer structures comprising the adhesive composition.

Disclosed is a pipe resin composition. The composition comprises a polyethylene pipe resin, a primary antioxidant, and an acid. The composition of the invention has an increased oxidative induction time (OIT) and environmental stress cracking resistance (ESCR).

Polyethylene pipe resins

A method for making multilayer thin films is disclosed. The method of comprises orienting a thick multilayer film in the machine direction at a drawdown ratio effective to produce a multilayer thin film. The thick multilayer film has a thickness within the range of 1 mil to 5 mils and comprises at least one layer of a linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and at least one layer of a high density polyethylene (HDPE) or a medium density polyethylene (MDPE).
