A kit of parts for configuring and assembling a shut-off valve in the field has a valve body, a plurality of connection fittings, and a plurality of gaskets. The connection fittings each have a first end with a common configuration adapted to fit into any of three ports provided in the valve body. The connection fittings have second ends with different configurations adapted to connect with any of a variety of conduit configurations which may be encountered in the field.

Field configurable shut-off valve

A connection structure providing a sealed joint between first and second fluid conducting parts has a first seal surface on a first part, a second seal surface on a second part, and an annular elastomeric gasket positioned between the first and second seal surfaces. At least one of the first and second seal surfaces has at least one projection extending from a respective seal surface. The projection is adapted to pierce the elastomeric gasket and abut the opposing seal surfaces upon assembly of the first and second parts at relatively low, hand-tool torque levels.

A combination of parts including a single piece valve body for a valve which is interchangeable between a straight valve and an angle valve. Each of the three bores of the valve body is adapted to operatively receive the valve opening and closing mechanism, the other two bores receiving fittings for attaching the flow conduits. One of the bores is perpendicular to the other two bores. If the opening and closing mechanism is received in this bore, the assembly comprises a straight valve. If the opening and closing mechanism is received in one of the other bores, the assembly comprises an angle valve. The three faces of the valve body through which the bores extend are machined substantially identically and symmetrically to the center thereof which is the point of intersection of the axes of the bores so that each bore is able to accommodate interchangeably the valve opening and closing mechanism and the fittings.

Valve interchangeable between angle and straight

A tensile member such as a bolt fastener comprises an elongated body formed with an open-ended longitudinal bore extending through an intermediate region of the body. A tubular sleeve and a test rod extend coaxially into the bore and are secured therein at longitudinally spaced positions within the intermediate region. The tubular sleeve and the test rod each have a free end adjacent to the open end of the bore. Tensile stress within the intermediate region of the body of the tensile member is measured by measuring relative longitudinal displacement between the end faces of the sleeve and test rod at their free ends.
