The relative combustion phasing of a homogenous charge compression ignition engine is controlled by controlling the introduction of ions and free radicals to cylinders in the engine. The engine has an engine housing with at least a first and second cylinder and an intake system that introduces a combustible mixture of air and fuel to the cylinders. A piston is disposed in each of the cylinders and is operable to compress a combustible mixture until the mixture auto ignites, without the introduction of a spark.

Homogeneous charge compression ignition engine with combustion phasing

An internal combustion barrel engine includes an engine housing and an elongated power shaft. A combustion cylinder and a guide cylinder are spaced apart and disposed on a common cylinder axis. A double-ended piston includes a combustion end disposed in the combustion cylinder so as to define a combustion chamber between the combustion end and the closed end of the combustion cylinder. A guide end is disposed in the guide cylinder. Combustion occurs only in the combustion cylinder and does not occur in the guide cylinder.

Single-ended barrel engine with double-ended, double roller pistons

A homogenous charge compression ignition barrel engine includes an engine housing with a first and second end. An elongated power shaft is longitudinally disposed in the engine housing and defines a longitudinal axis of the engine. A plurality of cylinders surround the longitudinal axis with each cylinder having a closed end and an open end. Each cylinder has a central axis. The open ends of the cylinders are each generally directed toward the first end of the housing. An intake system is operable to introduce a combustible mixture of air and fuel into each of the cylinders. A track is disposed between the first end of the housing and the open ends of the cylinders such that a portion of the track is disposed generally in alignment with the central axis of each of the cylinders. The track has a cam surface that longitudinally undulates with respect to the open ends of the cylinders. A portion of the cam surface is disposed generally in alignment with the central axis of each of the cylinders. The track and the cylinders are rotatable with respect to each other such that the undulating cam surface moves with respect to the open ends of the cylinders. A piston is moveably disposed in each of the cylinders such that a combustion chamber is defined between the piston and the closed end of the cylinder. Each piston is in mechanical communication with the cam surface of the track such that as the cylinders and the track move with respect to each other, the pistons reciprocate within the cylinders. Each cylinder is operable to compress a combustible mixture until the mixture auto ignites, without the introduction of a spark.

Homogenous charge compression ignition and barrel engines

An internal combustion barrel engine includes an engine housing with a first and second end. An elongated power shaft is longitudinally disposed in the engine housing and defines a longitudinal axis. A combustion cylinder and a guide cylinder are spaced apart and disposed on a common cylinder axis that is generally parallel to the central axis. The cylinders each have an inner end and an outer end, with the inner ends being closer to each other. The outer end of the combustion cylinder is closed. An intake system is operable to introduce a mixture of air and/or fuel into the combustion cylinder. A track is supported between the inner ends of the cylinders and has an undulating cam surface. The track is moveable such that the portion of the cam surface most directly between the cylinders undulates toward and away from the inner end of the combustion cylinder. A double-ended piston includes a combustion end disposed in the combustion cylinder so as to define a combustion chamber between the combustion end and the closed end of the combustion cylinder. A guide end is disposed in the guide cylinder. A midportion extends between the combustion end and the guide end and is in mechanical communication with the guide surface of the track. A variable compression ratio device is operable to move the track axially towards and away from the inner end of the combustion cylinder so as to adjust the compression ratio. Combustion occurs only in the combustion cylinder and does not occur in the guide cylinder.

The method of making a therapeutic mattress comprised of taking a first sheet of fabric material of rectangular shape, then taking a second sheet of fabric material and folding it over to provide a top cover and an underlying intermediate bottom fabric cover of the same dimensions as the first sheet; and thereafter, applying a plurality of parallel spaced rows of stitching across the width of the top cover and intermediate bottom cover. Further steps include, superimposing the folded over second fabric sheet over the first fabric sheet and peripherally stitching the top fabric cover, the intermediate bottom fabric cover and the bottom fabric cover together defining a series of rectangular tubes within the top cover and intermediate bottom cover, and a unit chamber between the bottom intermediate cover and the bottom cover. Additional steps include, stuffing, filling, compacting and retaining a fibrous material within the plurality of rectangular tubes, defining a plurality of firm resilient top mattress sections; and stuffing, filling, retaining a resilient fabric material within the chamber defining a bottom mattress section supportably underlying the top mattress sections; and transversely stitching closed the open ends of the tubes and chamber.

Method of making a therapeutic mattress

A therapeutic mattress comprises a soft, resilient bottom mattress section and a plurality of interconnected top mattress sections and peripherally interconnected. The top section includes top and bottom fabric covers peripherally interconnected. A plurality of parallel rows of stitching interconnect the top and bottom covers and with the peripherally stitching define a plurality of transverse rectangular tubes filled with a compacted resilient fibrous material. The bottom mattress section includes a bottom fabric cover spaced from the top section bottom cover and peripherally interconnected defining an elongated rectangular chamber underlying the top mattress sections. A loosely confined resilient fibrous material is enclosed and retained within the chamber yieldably underlying the top mattress sections.

Therapeutic mattress and method of making

A therapeutic pillow comprises a soft resilient bottom pillow section and a top pillow section thereover and peripherally interconnected. The top section includes top and bottom fabric covers peripherally interconnected with a pair of rows of stitching spaced from the ends of the pillow sections, and a transverse stitching between the rows of stitching interconnecting the covers defining a first tubular neck support of rectangular shape and a pair of laterally spaced supplemental neck supports of rectangular shape. Compacted resilient fiber stuffing is interposed within the neck supports. The bottom section includes a bottom fabric cover peripherally jointed to the top section containing a mass of loosely confined resilient fiber stuffing which underlies the top pillow section.

Therapeutic pillow

A therapeutic pillow comprises a soft resilient bottom pillow section and a top pillow section thereover and peripherally interconnected. The top section includes top and bottom fabric covers peripherally interconnected with interior stitching spaced from the sides of the pillow sections interconnecting the covers defining a first tubular neck support of rectangular shape and a supplemental neck support of U-shape. Compacted resilient fiber stuffing is interposed within the neck supports. The bottom section includes a bottom fabric cover peripherally joined to the top section containing a mass of loosely confined resilient fiber stuffing which underlies the top pillow section.
