A method of bagging refuse in a refuse compactor wherein the drawer of the compactor is provided with an upwardly opening bag having installed therein a plurality of sets of stacked paper sheets in lining relationship to the bag with an upper portion of the sheets turned over the turned-over top portion of the bag. The upper portion of the sheets and the top portion of the bag are secured to the upper edge portion of the drawer during the compacting operation. Upon completion of the compacting operation, the top portion of the bag is gathered with the refuse and lining sheets disposed fully within the bag so as to permit disposal of the compacted refuse in closed, bagged form.

Refuse compaction method

A selective spray device for use in a refuse compactor, or the like, arranged to provide selectively onto the refuse a deodorizing spray. The device includes a control for effecting automatically a spray of the refuse as an incident of movement of the receptacle into which the refuse is placed for compaction. A manually operable control permits a manual operation of the spray device when desired at any time. The control may further be arranged to prevent operation of the spray device notwithstanding movement of the receptacle. The spray may be provided as a pressurized fluid in a can having a suitable selectively operable valve. The valve actuator may be held fixed while the can itself is displaced to effect an opening of the valve. The control may include a slidable cam having associated therewith a manually operable handle. The selective opening of the valve may be effected by a lever pivotally mounted adjacent the cam and having a cam follower engaged by the cam.

Refuse compactor with selective spray device

A refuse compactor having a refuse holding receptacle and structure for effecting movement of the receptacle from a retracted position to an exposed position. The receptacle moving structure is arranged to draw the receptacle upwardly from the retracted position and urge the receptacle toward the exposed position. Further structure may be provided for urging the receptacle to the exposed position upon drawing of the receptacle from the retracted position.

Easy open compactor drawer

A refuse compactor having a movable compacting receptacle with a plurality of control switches arranged in a novel manner to facilitate control of the compactor operation. The switches include switches for controlling the electrical drive motor of the compacting ram and structure for actuating the switches under different conditions, such as a tilted condition of the receptacle, a retraction of the ram to a retracted position, a displacement of the receptacle from the compacting position, and the like. The switches are disposed in juxtaposition for facilitated control and maintenance. An indicator may be provided for indicating the prevention of operation of the apparatus because of a tilted condition of the receptacle. The switch actuator structure includes a rod which is movably carried by the frame of the compactor and which includes a plurality of operating portions arranged to actuate different switches under different conditions of the compactor.
