An optical filter includes an array of light-transmissive beads in a matrix of opaque binder that surrounds one portion of the beads to provide light entrances and exit apertures for incident light to pass substantially only through the beads. A polarizing layer is disposed between the apertures and the viewing surface of the filter for improved rejection of ambient light. The polarizing layer transmits linearly polarized image light aligned with the polarization axis while attenuating randomly or orthogonally polarized ambient light, resulting in improved image contrast.

An optical filter includes an array of light-transmissive beads in a matrix of light absorbing binder that surrounds one portion of the beads to provide light entrances and exit apertures for incident light to pass substantially only through the beads. A transparent layer under the light absorbing layer may serve to increase the diameter of the exit apertures. A structure or layer of light-dispersing material that exhibits anisotropic dispersion of incident light along orthogonal axes is disposed relative to the beads to disperse light within a wider output angle along one of the orthogonal axes than along another of the orthogonal axes.

Method and apparatus for correcting visual aberrations in image projection systems

Method and apparatus for collimating light of projected images establishes limited few designs of Fresnel lenses to accommodate conventional image projection system having a wide range of sizes of viewing screens for the projected images. A multi-layer image-enhancing filter is disposed to receive substantially collimated image light exiting the Fresnel lens. A light-transmissive structure includes a substrate layer supporting a single layer of contiguously-arranged beads of light transmissive material disposed on an incident surface of the substrate layer. A Fresnel lens includes angularly-pitched segments on one surface and an array of a plurality of elongated lenses aligned in one direction on an opposite surface of the Fresnel lens for passing a projected light image therethough to the layer of beads on the substrate layer.

A venetian blind slat or coil of venetian blind slat substrate, such as aluminum, is first coated with a conductive primer. An anti-static conductive coated is applied thereover. The resultant coated finished blind slat and its associated spaced horizontal slats have sufficient conductivity to resist airborne dust particle accumulation with reductions in dust accumulation of from 36% to about 82% being attained, as compared to colored paint insulative coating on standard venetian blinds. An inorganic, inert conductive additive such as stannous oxide is employed in the anti-static conductive coating, resulting in coating conductivities of less than 10.sup.6 ohms per square and, in a preferred embodiment, from about 10 ohms per square to 10.sup.5 ohms per square.

Anti-static coated venetian blind slat and method of preparation thereof

Large neodymium glass laser disks for disk amplifiers such as those used in the Nova laser require an edge cladding which absorbs at 1 micrometer. This cladding prevents edge reflections from causing parasitic oscillations which would otherwise deplete the gain. Nova now utilizes volume-absorbing monolithic-glass claddings which are fused at high temperature to the disks. These perform quite well but are expensive to produce. Absorbing glass strips are adhesively bonded to the edges of polygonal disks using a bonding agent whose index of refraction matches that of both the laser and absorbing glass. Optical finishing occurs after the strips are attached. Laser disks constructed with such claddings have shown identical gain performance to the previous Nova disks and have been tested for hundreds of shots without significant degradation.
