The present invention provides a process for modifying the surface of a polyvinyl alcohol film or fabric by applying heat and pressure to the film or fabric to increase the moisture on the surface which is held by the fabric and to coalesce the surface fibers and reduce the porosity of the surface.

Process for producing polyvinyl alcohol articles

The present invention relates to novel polyvinyl alcohol non-woven films and fabrics which have been modified so as to have a breathable coalesced lower porosity surface polyvinyl alcohol layer attached to a fibrous polyvinyl alcohol layer by a transition layer. The fabrics are useful as clothing or wraps for inert articles.

A thermally protective, flame retardant fabric includes a substrate treated with a combination of a flame retardant agent and an intumescent agent. The substrate includes non-thermoplastic fibers or a blend of non-thermoplastic fibers and thermoplastic fibers having a basis weight ranging from 2.0 to 15.0 ounces per square yard. The fabric has a contact thermal protective performance value of at least 4.5 and a contact thermal protective performance efficiency greater than 1.1. Applications of the fabric include protective garments, articles of furniture, vehicle components, building components, electrical components, decorative components, appliances, and containers.

Thermally protective flame retardant fabric

A process for producing a polyvinyl alcohol film or fabric having a modified non-porous surface which can be used to form disposable protective clothing, wraps, and articles similar to TYVEK&#xae; by impinging steam on at least one surface.

A breathable protective garment or laminate for protection against chemical and/or biologic agents which contains one or more scrim layers which contain anti-microbial and/or anti toxic chemical agents. The garment or laminate is also self-decontaminating.

Chemical/biological protective garments and laminates

A fabric for chemical protective garments having at least two multilayered film laminates separated by a scrim forming a barrier chamber. The laminates are sandwiched between films of linear low density polyethylene and contain a different film from each other selected from ethyl vinyl alcohol, polyethylene terephthalate and polyamide. There is also the garment prepared with the fabric.

Chemically protective laminated fabric

A laminate web and several uses of the laminate web are disclosed. The laminate web comprises a first web, a second web joined to the first web at a plurality of discrete bond sites; and a third material disposed between at least a portion of the first and second webs. The laminate webs of the present invention are suitable for a variety of uses. Such uses include flexible carrying implement, medical applications, kitchen or bathroom implements, decorative coverings, home accent items, pet industry articles, fabric, fabric backings, edible materials, bedding applications, absorbent food pads, clean room wipes, tack cloths, and many other uses.
