A computer system may comprise a non-volatile memory to store executable Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) code, a computer-readable medium to store an operating system based on an image, and a processor coupled to the non-volatile memory and the computer-readable medium. Execution of the executable BIOS code may cause the processor to store the operating system to the computer-readable medium based on the image.

An example computing device includes a connector to establish a connection with an electronic device. The computing device also includes a storage device storing a firmware. The firmware is to, in response to detecting a recovery trigger to repair an operating system of the electronic device, establish a communication channel between the computing device and the electronic device. The firmware is to map a virtual network interface of the computing device to a transceiver of the electronic device and retrieve recovery data from a repository via the virtual network interface.

Operating system repairs via electronic devices

An example computing device includes a first storage device storing a firmware. The computing device also includes a second storage device storing an operating system of the computing device. The computing device further includes a processor. The processor is to retrieve a recovery agent from another computing device via the firmware; validate the recovery agent; execute the recovery agent to retrieve recovery data; validate the recovery data; and repair the operating system using the recovery data via the recovery agent.

Examples associated with heartbeat signal verification are disclosed. One example includes verifying a provisioning key using a trusted key. The provisioning key is received from a remote device via an intermediary process. An intermediate key provided by the intermediary process is verified using the provisioning key. A session identifier encrypted using the intermediate key and provided to the intermediary process. A first heartbeat signal is received from intermediary process. The heartbeat signal is generated based on the session identifier.

An example electronic device includes a volatile memory to store a virtual memory device. A processor is to generate an operating system boot sequence in the virtual memory device. The processor uses a firmware interface system driver to create a device path comprising a location in the volatile memory containing the virtual memory device. The processor saves computer operating system files in the virtual memory device. The processor loads the operating system boot sequence by processing the computer operating system files from the virtual memory device.

An example computing device includes a connector to establish a wired connection with an electronic device. The computing device also includes a storage device storing a firmware. The firmware is to, in response to detecting a recovery trigger to repair an operating system of the electronic device, identify an operating system of the electronic device. The firmware is also to establish a communication channel between the computing device and the electronic device based on the operating system of the electronic device. The firmware is further to map a virtual network interface of the computing device to a transceiver of the electronic device and retrieve recovery data from a repository via the virtual network interface. The recovery data is transported to the computing device via the communication channel.

A method of installing a software package may include storing a software package coupon on a proximity tag coupled to a computing device; accessing the software package coupon and installing an operating system OS agent during an initial booting of the computing device; and with the OS agent, downloading and installing the software package.

In some examples, a computing device can identify, by a processing resource of the computing device, an operating system (OS) uniform resource locator (URL) from a radio-frequency identification (RFID) chip coupled to the processing resource in response to the computing device being powered on, download from an OS repository an OS descriptor using the OS URL from the RFID chip and an OS image using the OS descriptor, and install an OS to a hard disk of the computing device using the OS image downloaded from the OS repository.

An example apparatus may comprise a processor and a memory device including computer program code. The memory device and the computer program code, with the processor, may cause the apparatus to execute a client application, the client application to consume a first protocol, the protocol having been produced by a Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) wrapper driver; invoke, with the client application, the UEFI wrapper driver to perform at least one operation of the protocol; load a binary image of a worker application with the wrapper driver to invoke the at least one operation. The worker application calls at least one function of a software library to perform the at least one operation.
