An electrical connector and a ground system which includes ground contacts and ground shields positioned proximate the ground contacts. The ground contacts have receiving sections, securing sections and mounting sections. The receiving sections have first engagement portions and second engagement portions. The ground shields have a nonplanar configuration, with portions of the ground shields passing between signal contacts. Surfaces of the securing sections of the ground contacts are positioned in mechanical and electrical engagement with surfaces of the ground shields, providing first ground contact areas across which ground currents may flow. The first engagement portions of the ground contacts are provided in electrical and mechanical engagement with the surfaces of the ground shields, providing second ground contact areas across which the ground currents may flow. The second ground contact areas are spaced from the first ground contact areas to allow the ground currents to properly flow through the entire ground shields.

Contact and shield configuration for ground current optimization

An electrical connector which controls cross talk and signal radiation. The electrical connector includes columns of contacts having signal contacts and ground contacts. Ground shields are positioned between the columns of contacts. The ground shields have planar members with mating ends and mounting ends. The planar members have surfaces which are configured to be electrically coupled to ground members on a mating connector. Voids are provided in the planar members. Mounting members extend from the mounting ends of the planar members. The mounting members are configured to cooperate with the ground contacts provided in the columns of contacts.

Ground shields positioned between columns of contacts

A printed circuit board having signal contact receiving vias positioned in rows and ground contact receiving vias positioned in line with the signal contact receiving vias in the rows. Signal integrity vias are positioned between the signal contact receiving vias, between the ground contact receiving vias, and between respective signal contact receiving vias and respective ground contact receiving vias. The signal integrity vias form a ground fence which reduces cross talk in a foot print of a connector mated with the printed circuit board.

Interconnection system for ground current optimization

A substrate assembly includes a first substrate having a first surface and an oppositely facing second surface. Signal pathways are provided on the first surface. The signal pathways extend to first openings which extend inward from an edge of the substrate. First ground pathways are provided on the first surface. Each of the first ground pathways are positioned adjacent at least one of the signal pathways. The first ground pathways extend to second openings which extend inward from the edge of the substrate. Signal contacts are mounted to the first substrate. The signal contacts have first mounting surfaces which provide mechanical and electrical engagement with the first openings. Ground contacts are mounted to the first substrate. The ground contacts have second mounting surfaces which provide mechanical and electrical engagement with the second openings.

An electrical connector of an electrical connector assembly. The electrical connector includes a housing with a mating face for mating with a mating electrical connector. Contact receiving cavities extend into the housing from the mating face. Contacts are provided in the contact receiving cavities. Mating portions of the contacts extend from the mating face in a direction away from the housing. Protrusions extend from the mating face in a direction away from the housing. The protrusions extend proximate edges of the mating portions of the contacts. The protrusions form reverse chamfers which cooperate with lead-in chamfers provided in a surface of the mating electrical connector. The positioning of the protrusions in the lead-in chamfers fills in air gaps provided by the lead-in chamfers to provide an impedance match along the mating portions of the contacts when the electrical connector is mated with the mating electrical connector.

A terminal post assembly for connecting at least one electrical terminal to a substrate. The terminal post assembly includes a terminal post which has a substrate mounting portion, a terminal receiving portion and a cap receiving portion. The substrate mounting portion has a base and a securing portion which is dimensioned to extend through a mounting opening of the substrate. The terminal receiving portion is configured to receive the at least one electrical terminal thereon and make an electrical connection to the at least one electrical terminal. The cap receiving portion has a cap positioned thereon. the cap cooperates with the at least one electrical terminal to retain the at least one electrical terminal in position on the terminal receiving portion to maintain the electrical connection between the at least one electrical terminal and the terminal receiving portion of the terminal post of the terminal post assembly.

Terminal post assembly for termination of electrical terminals without the need for tooling

A coaxial connector assembly has a housing with at least one contact receiving cavity which extends from a mating end to a contact assembly receiving end. The contact receiving cavity has a mounting section proximate the contact assembly receiving end. A contact assembly is positioned in the contact receiving cavity. The contact assembly has a front flange proximate a mating portion of the contact assembly. A positioning member is inserted on the mating portion of the contact assembly. The positioning member cooperates with the flange to position the positioning member on the mating portion of the contact assembly. The positioning member cooperates with a wall of the contact receiving cavity to limit the movement of the mating portion of the contact assembly in a direction which is transverse to a longitudinal axis of the contact assembly.

A socket contact includes a main body extending along a longitudinal axis between a mating end and a terminating end of the socket contact. The main body has a first side and a second side. The main body has a front and a rear extending between the first side and the second side. The socket contact includes a contact tail at the terminating end configured to be terminated to a circuit board. The socket contact includes a mating socket at the mating end. The mating socket includes a first beam and a second beam opposite the first beam. The mating socket includes a third beam longitudinally offset from the first beam and longitudinally offset from the second beam.

An alignment member for aligning electrical components. The alignment member includes a base, a telescoping portion and a spring. The base has a first spring receiving cavity which extends from a first end of the base to a spring engaging shoulder. The telescoping portion has a second spring receiving cavity with a spring cooperating surface. The spring is positioned in the first spring receiving cavity of the base and in the second spring receiving cavity of the telescoping portion. The spring has a length which is approximately equal to or slightly larger than the length of a cavity formed by the spring receiving cavity and the base receiving cavity when the alignment member is in an extended position. The spring is retained in a biased position to keep the telescoping portion extended until a force is applied to the telescoping portion by the mating alignment member.

An electrical connector includes a housing having contact channels. The housing has a mounting end configured to be mounted to a circuit board. The electrical connector includes signal contacts received in corresponding contact channels. The signal contacts have mating ends and terminating ends configured to be terminated to the circuit board. Each terminating end has a shoulder, a neck extending from the shoulder and a pin extending from the neck. The neck is narrower than the complaint pin and the shoulder. The electrical connector includes conformal pin organizers coupled to the mounting end of the housing. Each conformal pin organizer has a signal opening receiving the terminating end of the corresponding signal contact. The conformal pin organizer has opening edges extending along the signal opening. The conformal pin organizers are positioned along the terminating ends such that the opening edges engage the necks of the corresponding terminating ends.

A light sensor assembly includes a sensor connector configured to be coupled to a receptacle connector mounted to a light fixture. The sensor connector includes a housing having a top and a bottom defining a mating interface configured to be mated to the receptacle connector. The housing has a sealed cavity including a first sensor component in the sealed cavity sensing an environmental characteristic exterior of the sensor connector. The sensor connector includes power contacts held by the housing and extending from the bottom for electrical connection with receptacle power contacts of the receptacle connector. The sensor connector includes a lid assembly at the top of the housing. The lid assembly has a lid defining an unsealed cavity allowing airflow through the unsealed cavity. The lid assembly has a second sensor component in the unsealed cavity sensing an environmental characteristic exterior of the sensor connector.

An electrical connector includes a housing having a mounting end mounted to a circuit board and contact channels receiving signal contacts. The signal contacts have mating ends and terminating ends. Each terminating end has a shoulder, a neck extending from the shoulder and a pin extending from the neck. The neck is narrower than the complaint pin and the shoulder. A conformal pin organizer is coupled to the mounting end of the housing. The conformal pin organizer has signal openings receiving the terminating ends and deflecting portions extending into the signal openings. The conformal pin organizer is positioned along the terminating ends such that the deflecting portions engage the necks of the corresponding terminating ends.

A solar junction box for a solar panel includes a contact assembly having a base configured to be mounted to a solar panel and a terminal held by the base. The base has at least one foil opening configured to receive a foil. The terminal has a protection device contact configured to be terminated to a protection device. The terminal has a foil contact configured to be terminated to the foil. The terminal has a terminating contact configured to be electrically connected to a terminating assembly. The solar junction box includes a cover covering the contact assembly. The cover has walls defining a cavity receiving the terminal of the contact assembly. The walls are configured to be mounted directly to the solar panel.

Solar junction box

A solar junction box for a solar panel includes a housing having a base and walls defining a cavity. The cavity extends along a primary axis and a secondary axis generally perpendicular to the primary axis. The base has a foil opening receiving a foil of the solar panel. A terminal is received in the cavity. The terminal has a protection device contact terminated to a protection device and a foil contact configured to be terminated to the foil. The foil contact is oriented within the cavity such that the foil contact is configured to be terminated to the foil when the foil extends into the foil opening along the primary axis and such that the foil contact is configured to be terminated to the foil when the foil extends into the foil opening along the secondary axis.

An electronic device includes a substrate having a top surface, a bottom surface and at least one opening therethrough. The substrate has a circuit. A switch mechanism is mounted to the substrate and is electrically connected to the circuit. The switch mechanism has an actuator configured to activate the switch mechanism. The switch mechanism has a housing holding the actuator and leads extending from the housing. The leads are electrically connected to the circuit. The switch mechanism is mounted to the substrate in the opening such that at least a portion of the housing is positioned below the top surface.
