A process fluid temperature estimation system includes a mounting assembly configured to mount the process fluid temperature estimation system to an external surface of a process fluid conduit. A sensor capsule has at least one temperature sensitive element disposed therein and is configured to sense at least a temperature of the external surface of the process fluid conduit. Measurement circuitry is coupled to the sensor capsule and is configured to detect a characteristic of the at least one temperature sensitive element that varies with temperature and provide sensor capsule temperature information. A controller is coupled to the measurement circuitry and is configured to obtain a temperature measurement of the external surface of the process fluid conduit and to obtain a reference temperature and employ a heat transfer calculation with the reference temperature, the external surface temperature measurement and a known thermal relationship between the external surface temperature sensor in the sensor capsule and the reference temperature to generate an estimated process fluid temperature output. The controller is also configured to improve response time of the process fluid estimation system mathematically. In some examples, the controller is configured to extract the system tau value from the measured data.

Heat flow-based process fluid temperature estimation system with thermal time response improvement

A polymeric fluid sensor includes an inlet configured to receive fluid and an outlet. A polymeric tube is fluidically interposed between the inlet and the outlet and has a first sensing location with a first sidewall thickness and a second sensing location, spaced from the first sensing location, with a second sidewall thickness. A sleeve is disposed about the polymeric tube. The first sidewall thickness is less than the second sidewall thickness and a first sensing element is disposed at the first location and a second sensing element is disposed at the second location. In another example, the first and second sidewall thicknesses are the same and a fluid restriction is disposed within the polymeric tube between the first and second sensing locations.

Single-use plastic pressure sensor

A pressure sensor assembly includes a pressure sensor having a support structure and a sapphire isolation member coupled to the support structure and forming a region between a first surface of the sapphire isolation member and the support structure. A second surface of the sapphire isolation member has a sapphire etch surface formed thereon and is positioned to interface with fluid from or coupled to a process. A process seal is positioned against the second surface of the sapphire isolation member to prevent fluid from passing by the pressure sensor assembly. Electrical leads couple to a polysilicon strain gauge pattern positioned in the region on the first surface of the sapphire isolation member, and the polysilicon strain gauge pattern is configured to generate electrical signals indicative of the pressure of the fluid when the sapphire isolation member deflects responsive to the pressure.

A process pressure transmitter includes transmitter electronics disposed within a housing coupled to a pressure sensor formed by a cell body defining an interior cavity. A deflectable diaphragm separates the interior cavity into a first cavity and a second cavity. The deflectable diaphragm includes a groove region located around a periphery of the deflectable diaphragm.

High range differential pressure sensor

A system for non-intrusively measuring process fluid pressure within a process fluid conduit is provided. The system includes a measurement bracket configured to couple to an external surface of the process fluid conduit. The measurement bracket generates a variable gap based on deformation of the process fluid conduit in response to process fluid pressure therein. A gap measurement system is coupled to the measurement bracket and provides an electrical signal based on a measurement of the variable gap. A controller is coupled to the gap measurement system and is configured to calculate and provide a process fluid pressure output based on the electrical signal and information relative to the process fluid conduit.

Non-intrusive process fluid pressure measurement system

A sensor body cell for use in a pressure sensor includes a metal housing and an insulating cell. The metal housing has a first cavity with a first conical inner surface. A portion of the first conical inner surface is concave. The insulating cell includes a first seal portion within the first cavity and forms a seal with the first conical inner surface.

A process variable transmitter for sensing a process variable of an industrial process includes a process variable sensor configured to sense a current process variable of the industrial process. Measurement circuitry is configured to compensate the sensed process variable as a function of at least one previously sensed process variable characterized by a Hysteron basis function model. Output circuitry provides a transmitter output related to the compensated sensed process variable.

Hysteretic process variable sensor compensation

An in-line process fluid pressure transmitter is provided. The transmitter includes a process fluid connector configured to couple to a source of process fluid. A plug is coupled to the process fluid connector and has a passageway configured to convey fluid to a distal end of the plug. A pressure sensor subassembly is coupled to the plug at a weld. The pressure sensor subassembly has a pressure sensor operably coupled to the distal end of the passageway such that the pressure sensor reacts to process fluid pressure. The plug includes a sidewall encircling the weld. Transmitter electronics are coupled to the pressure sensor and configured to measure an electrical characteristic of the pressure sensor and provide a process fluid pressure value based on the measured electrical characteristic.

In-line process fluid pressure transmitter for high pressure applications

A corrosion measurement system includes a corrosion sensor having a corrosion sensor output related to corrosion due to exposure to a process fluid. A process variable sensor provides a process variable output related to a process variable of the process fluid. Measurement circuitry coupled to the corrosion sensor and the process variable sensor provides an output related to corrosion based upon the corrosion sensor output and the process variable output.

Corrosion rate measurement with multivariable sensor

A sensor includes a diaphragm having a bonding portion and a main boss separated from the bonding portion by at least one channel, the main boss having a first side face, a second side face and a chamfered corner face connecting the first side face to the second side face. A base of the sensor has a first contact area aligned with the main boss and separated from the main boss, wherein the bonding portion of the diaphragm is bonded to the base. At least one sensing element senses movement of the diaphragm.

High over-pressure capable silicon die pressure sensor

A process fluid pressure transmitter is provided. The process fluid pressure transmitter includes a pressure sensor having an electrical characteristic that changes in response to a deformation of the pressure sensor in response to pressure. Measurement circuitry is coupled to the pressure sensor and is configured to provide an indication of the electrical characteristic. An isolation diaphragm is configured to contact the process fluid and deform in response to process fluid pressure. A substantially incompressible fill fluid fluidically couples the isolation diaphragm to the pressure sensor. An overpressure compliant structure is coupled to the fill fluid and is configured to be substantially rigid at pressures below a selected threshold, but to deform in response to pressure above the selected threshold.

Pressure transmitter with overpressure protection

A corrosion rate measurement system includes a first membrane of a first material configured to be exposed to a corrosive material and deflect in response to corrosion. A second membrane is configured to be exposed to a corrosive material and deflect in response to corrosion. A pressure sensor is operably coupled to at least one of the first and second membranes and configured to measure deflection of at least one of the first and second membranes as a function of a pressure and an amount of corrosion at least one of the first and second membranes.

Corrosion rate measurement

A capacitance-based pressure sensor for measuring a process variable includes a metal sensor body, a diaphragm disposed within a cavity of the metal sensor to form a deflectable capacitor plate, and an insulator extending through the metal sensor body from an end wall to the cavity. The pressure sensor further includes an isolation tube in fluid connection with the cavity, the isolation tube extending into the insulator through the end wall, a stationary capacitor plate on a surface of the insulator in the cavity, the stationary capacitor plate spaced from the diaphragm, and an electrical lead wire connected to the stationary capacitor plate and extending through the insulator parallel to the isolation tube and exiting the insulator at the end wall. A fill fluid is within the isolation tube and the cavity to apply pressure to the diaphragm.

Differential pressure sensor with high pressure capabilities

A pressure sensor includes a base having a high-pressure contact portion, and a diaphragm positioned over the base and having an external top surface opposite the base. The external top surface is defined within a closed perimeter and external side surfaces extend down from an entirety of the closed perimeter toward the base. A high-pressure contact portion of the diaphragm is aligned with and separated by a gap from the high-pressure contact portion of the base. A sensing element is coupled to the diaphragm and provides an output based on changes to the diaphragm. When a hydrostatic pressure load above a threshold value is applied to the entire external top surface and external side surfaces of the diaphragm, the hydrostatic pressure load causes the high-pressure contact portion of the diaphragm to contact the high-pressure contact portion of the base.

High over-pressure capable silicon die pressure sensor with extended pressure signal output

A differential pressure sensor for sensing a differential pressure of a process fluid, includes a sensor body having a sensor cavity formed therein with a cavity profile. A diaphragm in the sensor cavity deflects in response to an applied differential pressure. The diaphragm has a diaphragm profile. A gap formed between the cavity profile and the diaphragm profile changes as a function of the differential pressure. At least one of the cavity profile and diaphragm profile changes as a function of a line pressure to compensate for changes in the gap due to deformation of the sensor body from the line pressure.
