Method, system and apparatus are disclosed for in-vessel composting of organic material. A compost handling apparatus moves forwardly through a bed of composting material in an elongate open bay. Specifically, an agitator comprises a feed belt such as a transversely mounted cylindrical drum, which feeds composting material to a conveyor which lifts the material and projects it rearwardly behind the agitator. A regulator, such as an adjustable deflector, controls the discharge of composting material by the conveyor. The deflector is adjusted as the agitator moves forward through the composting material to develop a level bed in the bay behind the agitator. A sensor may be employed to generate a depth signal corresponding to the depth of the composting material for controlling the deflector.

This invention relates to a means for utilizing smaller-diameter bullets in larger-diameter cartridge cases, to achieve higher velocity without bottlenecking the cartridge case, and a firearm having a reduced bore adapted to that cartridge. Additionally, the invention provides a means of sealing the cylinder-to-barrel gap in revolvers, eliminating gas leakage at that point and thereby increasing muzzle velocity by eight to twenty percent. This invention is applicable to current gun models and cartridge components with little modification.

A normally open valve construction utilizes a valve housing defining a fluid passageway extending through the housing between at least two ports, and an expandible, metallic bladder within the housing. The bladder is mounted in non-obstructing relationship with the fluid passageway when the valve is open and is expanded across the passageway in flow-obstructing relationship when the valve is closed. The bladder in the expanded condition has a generally tubular configuration and is closed at one end. In the non-expanded condition, one portion of the tubular configuration is folded coaxially within an adjacent portion to shorten its axial length and to remove all portions of the bladder from the fluid passageway. A pyrotechnic squib or other fluid pressure generator discharges within the tubular configuration to extend the bladder into the fluid passageway and close the valve.

A percussion-ignitable type tube primer has a closed end, thin walled metal tube, which is longitudinally indented over a portion of its length. The indention of the metal tube defines a convex anvil in the interior of the tube. The indented portion of the tube contains a percussively-ignitable primer mixture which ignites and deflagrates when the wall of the tube opposite the convex anvil is deformed by an impact or blow occasioned by a striking hammer or a pin. The primer is made by introducing a fluid paste of the primer mixture into the tube, indenting the tube and subsequently drying the primer mixture.

Tube primer

A percussion-ignitable pressure actuated tube primer has a closed end, thin walled, metal tube which is indented over a portion of its length and is telescoped within a second metal tube. The indentation of the first metal tube defines a space between the first tube and the second metal tubular case. A percussively-ignitable primer mixture is contained in that space and ignites and deflagrates when the indented portion of the first tube is expanded and inverted by internal fluid pressure or a mechanical firing pin entering the first tube, and crushing the primer mixture between the expanding first tube and the bore of the second tubular case. The primer is made by coating the indented portion of the first tube with primer mixture in paste form and subsequently drying the primer mixture.

An electropyrotechnic link having one or more connectors crimped or bonded into longitudinal indentations in a closed end tubular member containing a pyrotechnic pressure generator. When the pyrotechnic charge within the tubular member is activated the tubular member is expanded into cylindrical form opening the crimp, peeling any bonding material and releasing the connector or connectors. If the bonding material is of low melting point the release can be made to function upon reaching the melting point of the bonding material or upon command by an electrical signal.
