A lid and a container using the lid are disclosed, the lid having a central panel of paperboard with a resilient plastic skirt joined about its perimeter. A metal foil membrane having heat activated adhesive layers is attached to the lid and the rim of the container by inductive heating. Detents project from an inside surface of the skirt and cooperate with the rim on the container to hold the lid in an open position. A stacking lip extends from the skirt and interfits within an identical lid to allow the lids to be stacked for shipment. A hinge extends transversely across the central panel and divides the lid into movable and fixed portions. Weakened regions on the skirt separate when the lid is opened and provide evidence of potential tampering.

A closure for sealing an opening of a tubular container is disclosed, the closure having a paperboard central panel with a plurality of secondary panels extending angularly therefrom forming a surface around the perimeter of the central panel. A plastic skirt is adhered around the perimeter of the central panel and to one side of the secondary panels opposite the surface to reinforce it. A metal foil layer is adhered to the surface, the foil having a side facing the sidewall of the container with a heat-activated adhesive layer thereon. The closure is positioned on the container with the central panel in registration with the opening and the heat-activated adhesive layer engaging the sidewall of the container. The seal between the closure and the container is effected by subjecting the container to an electromagnetic induction field, whereby eddy currents induced in the metal foil by the field cause the heat-activated adhesive to form a bond between the container sidewall and the secondary panels.

Induction-sealed composite container end closure

A composite lid formed of plastic resin and paperboard is disclosed along with a method of making the lid. The lid has a primary panel of paperboard defining its center and a plurality of secondary panels, also of paperboard, continuously attached to the perimeter of the primary panel and oriented perpendicularly to its plane. A skirt of plastic resin is attached to the inside surfaces of the secondary panels, the secondary panels being in edge abutting relationship and totally covering the skirt. The primary and secondary panels thus form a lid having a continuous outer surface capable of receiving a print media, the continuous outer surface extending entirely over the lid. A bar of resin is provided around the inside surface of the primary panel and resin spokes connect the bar to the skirt. Raised segments are positioned intermittently around the inside surface of the skirt, the segments engaging a container to hold the lid in place. Sealing ribs are also formed on the inside surface of the skirt which engage the container and provide a seal between it and the container. The method of making the lid includes the steps of providing the primary and secondary panels, folding the secondary panels to form inside surfaces of the lid and injecting resin onto the inside surfaces to form the skirt.

A container closure including a rim formed by injection molding, a skirt depending from rim for engagement with a container body, a top panel formed from a blank of sheet material, such as paperboard, a side panel formed from the same blank as the top panel, the side panel positioned vertically to the top panel, the top panel located and bonded to the rim, the rim bonded to an interior side of the side panel, with a portion of the side panel bonded to an exterior portion of rim.

Composite container closure

A peelable and resealable closure arrangement for a container body and lid that ensures integrity of the seal, including a tubular container body including a peripheral rim extending radially outward from the body wall and a lid including a flat central panel including a membrane layer peelable from the rim. The membrane including a layer of film compatible for heat sealing to an upper surface of the container body rim.

A composite lid for a container, which lid has a molded plastic rim that includes an outer vertically extending skirt connected to a radially inwardly spaced, inner, vertically extending flange with at least one weakened hinge area located therebetween, and a paperboard panel having a marginal area attached to a surface of the rim inner flange by insert injection molding.

Tamper-evident container

A composite closure comprising a central substrate formed of a thin-gauge, metallic metal and two concentric rings being molded to the central substrate. One of the two concentric rings defines an outer ring adapted for securement to the container body. The other of the two concentric rings defines an inner ring serving as tear strip for removing a central portion of the substrate from the container. The substrate is provided with a peripheral line of tear lying between the two concentric rings.

Composite lid

A peelable, sealable closure arrangement for a container body and lid adapted to insure integrity of seal when internal pressure increases within the container. The closure arrangement includes a container lid rim having a radially inward projecting lip with a sharp pointed peripheral edge capable of biting into the container body rim to insure a hermetic seal at all times between a sealable membrane and the container rim.

The overcap ring with the laminated structure are adapted to be induction heat sealed to the container body.

A method of forming a plurality of composite paperboard and plastic packages from a single blank of foldable paperboard. Each of the packages includes paperboard panels having at one end thereof an integral pocket for holding a packaged article. The pockets consist of shells which are formed integrally with the panels and have injected plastic therein covering the shells to form plastic liners.
