Embodiments may relate to synchronizing nodes in a peer-to-peer network. A method comprises listening for a first multicast beacon during a duration of a discovery interval. The discovery interval comprises time intervals configured for a plurality of nodes in a squad. The method further comprises, in response to receiving the first multicast beacon during the duration of the discovery interval, transmitting a unicast synchronization request to a transmitter of the first multicast beacon. The unicast synchronization request comprises a node list. The method further comprises comparing the node list in the unicast synchronization request to a stored node list comprising node information for the squad, determining node information differences based on the comparison, and in response to determining the one or more node information differences, requesting node information from nodes associated with the node information differences and transmitting a second multicast beacon comprising the one or more node information differences.

Lightweight node synchronization protocol for ad-hoc peer-to-peer networking of on-body combat systems

A first node may transmit a first multicast beacon to one or more nodes of a squad that form a network. The first node may receive a unicast synchronize request from a second node of the squad. The unicast synchronize request initiates a synchronization process between the first node and the second node and includes a first node list of nodes in the squad. The first node may compare the first node list in the unicast synchronization request to a second node list stored by the first node. The first node may determine one or more node information differences based on the comparison. The first node may transmit a second multicast beacon with the one or more node information differences to the one or more nodes of the squad.

Synchronizing nodes in a network

Embodiments may relate to pruning a distributed database for a peer-to-peer (P2P) network. A node may transmit a first multicast beacon over the P2P network. The node may receive a unicast synchronization request in response to the first multicast beacon, the unicast synchronization request comprising a removed list for the distributed database. The node may compare the removed list to a locally stored node list to determine a node removal. The node may determine if there is a failure in a node information call made to a node relating to the node removal. The node may, subsequent to a determination of the failure, update the locally stored node list based on the node removal. The node may transmit a second multicast beacon comprising the node removal. Nodes receiving the second multicast beacon may update a locally stored removed list using the node removal.

Pruning a distributed database for an ad-hoc peer-to-peer (P2P) network

A method provides for selecting a communication interface towards an access point by a wireless communication device. The method includes receiving one or more HELLO messages from the access point; determining whether any of a plurality of communication links is being used to reach the access point by evaluating at least one field of each of the received HELLO messages; penalizing a link metric of a communication link when the communication link is being used; and selecting a communication interface towards the access point, wherein the selected communication interface is coupled to a best communication link having a best link metric.

A method and device for providing an alternative backhaul portal at a mesh access point in a mesh network as provided enables improved backhaul services. The method includes processing a registration of the mesh access point as an alternative backhaul portal in the mesh network. It is then determined that additional backhaul capacity is required in the mesh network. Next, the mesh access point is activated as an alternative backhaul portal in the mesh network in response to determining that additional backhaul capacity is required. Mesh network data are then routed through the alternative backhaul portal at the mesh access point until it is determined that additional backhaul capacity is no longer required. The mesh access point is then deactivated as an alternative backhaul portal in the mesh network.

The information aggregation is automatically triggered when the number of calls exceeds the multihop capacity to the egress point. The PSAP responds to the emergency situation by sending a response message via the Portal. The WR multicast/broadcasts the response message to the mobile devices which initiated the emergency calls. The response message generally includes emergency instructions based on incident type and location. Further, a call-back list is created for users whose emergency calls were not completed. By using the call-back list PSAP personnel can initiate calls to end users to provide assistance in emergency situations.

A method for proximity detection in a wireless communication network. A node attempts to determine the proximity of the closest neighboring node by transmitting a ranging request. Other nodes respond, and the first node to receive and respond to the request will have the shortest response time and thus will be the closest node. Exact ranges can be determined by applying Time-Of-Arrival (TOA) techniques to node response times. To further avoid collisions, one or more frames of the response messages can be same, making the multiple responses appear as multi-path. The group of responders can be narrowed and individual groups probed in a search pattern until the single nearest node is known or range of the nearest node is known. The ranging node may then use ordinary unicast mechanisms to probe this node, or begin scanning the groups again, or interleave the two mechanisms as desired.

The present invention provides a system and method for multihop packet forwarding within a multihop wireless communication network. The method uses a data frame format including at least the four address fields to forward packets in a multihop wireless network. The method includes generating a route request packet at a routable device in response to receiving a packet destined for an unknown destination. The route request packet includes an originating device field including an address of an originating device, wherein the originating device generated the packet originally; and a source field, wherein the source field includes an address of the first routable device which generated the route request packet.
