Examples described herein relate to a system consistent with the disclosure. For instance, the system may comprise a display, a computing device, a display, an input mechanism commutatively coupled to the computing device, and an independent second processing resource to receive a password entry to unlock the computing device while the computing device is in a S5 state, determine a total number of incorrect password entry attempts to successfully unlock the computing device, save the total number of password entry attempts to a non-volatile memory of the independent second processing resource, and secure the computing device in response to a determination that the total number of incorrect password entry attempts exceeds a threshold value.

Example implementations relate to SATA and NVMe device determination. An example method can include determining a device type communicatively coupled to an M.2 socket of a central processing unit (CPU) based on a PEDET signal from the M.2 socket. The method can include configuring a crossbar switch to route a plurality of serial AT attachment (SATA) signals to the M.2 socket in response to a determination that the device is a SATA device type. The method can include configuring the crossbar switch and a multiplexer to route a plurality of non-volatile memory express (NVMe) signals to the M.2 socket in response to a determination that the device is an NVMe device type.

An example display includes a user interface. The user interface is to receive an indication to change a power state. The display includes a communication engine to determine a power state of the computing device communicatively coupled to the communication engine. The display includes a power engine to, based on the power state of the computing device, determine whether to communicate the indication to change the power state to the computing device. The power engine is to, based on the indication to change the power state, alter a power state of the display. The communication engine is to communicate the indication to change the power state to the computing device based on a determination to do so.

One of a plurality of current-limited power distribution switches is enabled in accordance with a hierarchical scheme depending upon the respective states of plural power sources. The power source having the greatest available load carrying capacity is thus coupled to a power node for provision to load entities. Servers, computing devices, printers, and other apparatus can include such selective power provisioning.

In addition, the power state of the first compute node power component is varied in response to the comparison.

A power management agent for managing power among electronic systems includes a module for predicting a future power consumption level of the electronic systems, a module for determining a power budget threshold for the electronic systems, and a module for determining whether a predicted future power consumption level will exceed the power budget threshold. The power management agent also includes a module for selecting one or more of the electronic systems to throttle in response to a determination that the predicted future power consumption level will exceed the power budget threshold and a module for selecting a throttle level to be applied to the selected one or more of the electronic systems to substantially prevent the future power consumption level from exceeding the power budget threshold.

One exemplary system embodiment includes a computing system that includes a port configured to operably connect an external device to the computing system. The example system may also include a mode controller operably connected to the port and that is configured to configure the port between a powered mode and a non-powered mode in accordance with a programmatically selected port configuration.

A voltage regulation steering circuit reads a voltage input code from a device and detects a set of predetermined conditions for gradually counting an output voltage code. Depending upon the set of predetermined conditions, the steering circuit either gradually counts the output voltage code from a predetermined initial voltage code to the voltage input code or gradually counts the output voltage code from the voltage input code to a predetermined low voltage code. As the steering circuit gradually counts from the predetermined initial voltage code, the steering circuit compares the output voltage code to voltage input code until the output voltage code matches the voltage input code. As the steering circuit gradually counts from the voltage input code, the steering circuit compares the output voltage code to the predetermined low voltage code until the voltage output code matches the predetermined low voltage code. The output voltage code is provided from the steering circuit to a voltage controller.

A personal computer provides security features enabling control over access to data retained in the computer. The computer is secured by having the system ROM provide a password at power-on to a security device which controls access to the secured features. Once a password has been downloaded to the security device, a Protect Resources command is issued to the security device. To gain access to the secured feature after boot-up, the user provides the correct password to the security device and waits for approval from the security device. Since the security device only verifies the password and does not divulge it, security of the system is enhanced. Once access to protected resources is no longer required, the computer issues another Protect Resources command to the security device to once more lock access to the protected resources.

Security control for personal computer

A computer system provides a self-modifying synchronization memory address space and protocol for communication between multiple busmasters. In one computer system embodiment, the self-modifying synchronization memory address space is provided in a memory controller embedded in a peripheral device of the computer system such as a bridge that provides central, high speed access by a busmaster to the memory controller without accessing a host bus. The synchronization memory address space includes a set of semaphore memory cells mapped to shared critical resources in the computer system. The semaphore memory cell allows for exclusive access by a busmaster to a shared critical resource by switching itself from an idle state to a busy state responsive to a first read operation by a busmaster. In the busy state of the semaphore memory cell, a busy state is communicated to other busmasters which attempt to read the semaphore memory cell. Ownership of the semaphore memory cell is thus achieved using a single operation by a busmaster. The properties of the self-modifying synchronization memory address space and the semaphore memory cell thus eliminate the need for assertion of a bus locking signal to achieve exclusive access for a busmaster to a shared critical resource. These properties also eliminate the need for host processor intervention in accessing a shared critical resource when a busmaster is a PCI master.
