A waterproof portable lamp () comprises a housing (); a light source () including a plurality of LEDs, a power supply () for said light source () and a switch () for energizing said light source () contained within said housing (). An opening () is formed in said housing () permitting egress of light when said light source () is energized. A flexible, transparent cover () is peripherally sealed to said opening () in a watertight manner and a switch activator () is substantially centrally located on and fixed to said flexible, transparent cover (). The lamp () is activated be depressing the center of the flexible cover (), which moves the switch activator () into contact with the switch ().

A lamp () has a cup-shaped body () with a planar bottom () with an up-standing, peripheral sidewall () defining a top (). The body () is thermally conductive and preferably is a metal such as aluminum. A reflective coating () is provided on the inside surface of the planar bottom () and side wall () for reflecting light generated by a single, side emitting LED () that is mounted on a thermally conductive, electrically insulating coupling () and is positioned substantially in the center of the planar bottom (). A lens () for directing a beam of light emitted from the LED () in a desired direction is provided and preferably is a Fresnel optic. The lens () can close the opening () as shown in FIG.or it can be formed as an integral part of bottom () or it can be added to the bottom (), as shown in FIG.. Alternatively, the lens () can be solid with the lens elements either external (FIG.) or internal (FIG.). Electrical connections () to the LED extend through the cup-shaped body ().

Traditional methods of making headlamp coils have left a portion of the coils with slightly irregular forms. These irregularities can result in defects in the ultimate beam pattern. Accommodating these defects in robust lamp and headlamp optical systems can reduce the performance that might otherwise be available. The preferred coil is therefore continuously coiled as a straight body, and carefully cut into segments. Subsequently, legs are welded to the coil segment ends. The coil is then left substantially undistorted by the manufacturing process that would otherwise normally leave a portion of the coils distorted. The method particularly enables a functional center leg coil.

Method of making a lamp coil

A guideway illumination system () comprises a first member () and a second member () each having at least one light source () and at least one of the first member () and the second member () receiving a power source (). The first member () has a closed end () and a connecting end () and the second member has two connecting ends (). At least one intermediate member () has at least one light source () and a male connecting end () and a female connecting end (). At least one flexible joining member () is also provided, the flexible joining member being capable of bending at least 90&#xb0; and being joinable to any of the first and second end members and the intermediate members.

Guideway illuminator

A solid-state light source () comprising a plurality of LED units () arrayed to emit light generally about an axis (). Each of the LED units () can comprise a number of LEDs, for example, up to five. They may all emit in a single color or multiple colors can be combined for a specific effect. A light transmissive light guide () is associated with the LED units () and has a plurality of input widows (). Each LED unit () faces a respective input window () and each window () transversely intercepts the axis () and receives light from the LED units (). The input windows () lead to a common output window () that is axially aligned with the input windows (). The light guide () has smooth sidewalls () that extend between the input windows () and the output window ().

LED headlamp system

A shower lamp assembly is formed with a water driven electric generator to power an LED light source. The assembly includes a first channel directing water to drive the generator. The generator is supported on a movable portion of a bypass valve that opens on a high water flow condition to direct a portion of the water to a second channel way from the generator. The generator is otherwise tuned to provide sufficient electricity under low water flow conditions to properly power the lamp. The lamp generator is then protected by the bypass valve from damage during high water flow conditions.

Shower light

An LED and light guide assembly has an LED with an output surface; a first power input lead electrically coupled to a first pole and having a first surface and a second surface; and a second power input lead electrically coupled to a second pole and having a first surface and a second surface. A unitary, molded light guide has an axially extending, light transmissive body with a light output window. An input window is formed with the unitary, molded light guide being aligned in a zero-gap relationship to capture substantially all the light emitted by the LED. A support is formed integral with the light guide and envelopes a portion of the first surface and the second surface of the first power input lead and the first surface and the second surface of the second power input lead to anchor the guide with respect to the power inputs.

A light () comprising: a cup-shaped, substantially rigid base () having a circumferential ridge () on the outer wall () of the base (); a battery () having first and second poles () within the base (); a PCB () overlying the battery () within the base (), the PCB () having a plurality of apertures () therein, at least one of the apertures () containing a LED () having first and second lead-ins (), a first of the lead-ins () being electrically connected to the first pole () via a connector (); switch means () associated with the PCB () electrically connecting the second lead-in () to the second pole (); and a cup-shaped, flexible, translucent cover () on the base, the wall () of the cover () engaging the outer wall () and the circumferential ridge ().

An illuminator () for a plurality of optical fibers (). The illuminator () comprises a housing () that can be formed of two housing halves, () and () of a suitable material such as an opaque ABS plastic. First and second compartments () are provided in the housing. A suitable battery () is contained within the first compartment () and a light source () is contained in the second compartment (). The light source () is preferably a LED. The light source () is mounted upon a printed circuit board (), which, in turn, can be mounted upon a heatsink (), for example, a black, anodized aluminum. An optical coupler () is associated with the light source () and comprises a central body () arrayed along a light source axis () and has a proximal end () with a lens () adjacent the light source () and a distal end (). At least one lateral projection () (preferably, two) is formed on the central body (), the lateral projection () including mounting means (). The distal end () is formed to accept an optical fiber bundle () that has a body () that preferably is polygonal in cross-section.

Light source

An LED lamp has a housing comprising a heat conductive body arrayed about a longitudinal axis with a tubular projection extending therefrom coaxial with the longitudinal axis. The tubular projection has a distal end attached to the heat conductive body and a proximal end opposite thereto. A motor is positioned within the tubular projection and has a tubular, vaned fan blade operatively connected thereto. A plurality of LED components is attached to an outside surface of the tubular projection at the proximal end. An air inlet is formed at the proximal end of the tubular projection and a plurality of air outlets are spaced about the tubular projection between the distal end of the tubular projection and the LED components. A base is operatively attached to the housing for attachment to a power supply.
