Disclosed herein is a medical system () comprising a memory () storing machine executable instructions (). The medical system further comprises an anatomical detection module (). The anatomical detection module is configured for detecting an anatomical deviation in response to inputting tomographic medical scout image data (). The anatomical detection module is configured for outputting a localization () of the anatomical deviation in the tomographic medical scout image data if the anatomical deviation is detected. The medical system further comprises a processor () configured for controlling the medical system. Execution of the machine executable instructions causes the processor to: receive () the tomographic medical scout image data, receive () the localization of the anatomical deviation from the anatomical detection module in response to inputting the tomographic medical scout image data into the anatomical detection module, and provide () a warning signal () if the localization is received.

An introducer is described that is coupled to a patient, specifically a patient's skull. The introducer may include an advancer that is remote from the patient, the advancer communicating with the introducer by means of a cable system. The introducer may also include a local position sensor that indicates the position of the primary medical device being introduced. The introducer may also include a frameless reference system that locates the primary medical device relative to a table that the patient is fixed to.

There is described method and apparatus for taking a biopsy wherein the apparatus is formed of a biocompatible cylindrical member with an outer wall and a hollow core, the cylindrical member having a longitudinal axis. An opening in the outer wall of the member is provided and a cutting device cuts tissue entering the opening as it travels along the opening. Cut tissue is treated with a coagulating agent or member so that the coagulation occurs concurrently or just after the tissue is cut wherein the coagulation occurs at a trailing edge of the opening as it travels.

There is disclosed method and apparatus for retaining a reservoir for a therapeutic agent between the scalp and cranium of a subject, including providing a deformable pouch or rigid cylinder for dispensing the therapeutic agent from the reservoir to a location in the body of the subject. In one embodiment, a pump is used to pump the agent from the reservoir to the location in the subject's body. In another example embodiment, there is provided method and apparatus for forming at least one cavity in the cranium of the subject, and placing at least a portion of the pump in the cavity. Power is applied to the pump in a variety of ways.
