The blade support apparatus relates to capturing and stabilizing airfoils such as helicopter blades to enable ground transport without requiring removal of airfoils or blades with the blade support apparatus and blades in a protective container. The blade support apparatus captures and stabilizes helicopter blades utilizing a support frame with vertical and radial adjustable supports. These supports have contoured padded cradles and means of adjusting the height and angle of the cradles to match the profile being captured. The blade support apparatus enables loading, transport, and unloading of the airfoils for transport in a separate blade container which may either be stand alone or attaches to a helicopter transport apparatus. An alternate embodiment utilizes a support frame which is vertically and radially adjustable. Within the support frame are the same contoured padded swivel cradles which also adjust to the height and angle of the profile being captured.

Blade support apparatus

A method for forming a metal beam may comprise: clamping first and second portions of the metal beam in a substantially fixed and in a position whereat the metal beam is rotatable about three axes; applying a net bending force to the clamped second portion of the metal beam at a predetermined angle; sensing twisting of the second portion of the metal beam resulting from the net bending force; and modulating the angle at which the net force is applied to reduce the twisting of the metal beam. As a result, the net bending force is moved toward the shear center and toward being along the principal axis of the metal beam.

Method for forming a metal beam or stringer

Stringer forming device and methods of using the same

The aircraft transport trailer enables the loading, transporting, and unloading of a helicopter. The transport trailer comprises a wheeled trailer having a power unit, a height adjustable roller platform having a first position for loading or unloading the helicopter and a second position for transporting the helicopter, and a winch for moving the helicopter, the winch being power driven, the winch pulling the helicopter forward and releasing backward, a strap assembly being connected to the winch, and a pair of micro-switches positioned upon the trailer in cooperative engagement with the winch. Each micro-switch is positioned upon the trailer proximate to a cushioned bumper and to a towing position for the helicopter. The pair of micro-switches cut the power to the winch as the helicopter skids or wheels touch the micro-switch thereby properly positioning the helicopter upon the platform of trailer for when the trailer is raised to the second position.

Helicopter transport apparatus

A helicopter transport apparatus comprising a multi-wheel trailer comprising a platform, a torsion bar axle and suspension system, a hydraulic power unit, hydraulic lift cylinders, a winch, and a means of adjusting the height of the trailer over the range of elevations required for loading, unloading, and transporting a helicopter.

A box blank with receptacle and cover sections each with side flaps and end flaps has a hinge panel joining the two sections. A vacuum pickup draws a flat blank from a supply stack to a feed carriage which transfers the blank past sprays that apply glue to the end flaps. The speed of the carrier varies, but beneath the glue sprays speed is uniform. The carriage delivers the glue coated box blank to a former and a tray forming head having concave and convex interacting pressure plates which maintain doubled over end flaps of each section in a concave configuration with respect to the box while the folded end sections are adhered to form a box tray from the blank. Former flap benders cooperate with the tray forming head to shape the box tray. A second vacuum pickup clasps the formed tray at the hinge panel and draws a shaped tray from the forming head into engagement with folding elements such that the cover and receptacle sections are bent together along the hinge panel to form a closed box.

Method for forming paper boxes and the like

A box blank with receptacle and cover sections each with side and end flaps has a hinge panel joining the sections. A vacuum pickup draws a flat blank from a stack to a feed carriage which delivers the glue coated blank to a former and a forming head having concave and convex interacting pressure plates which maintain doubled over end flaps of each section in concave configuration while the folded end sections are adhered to form a box tray. Former flap benders cooperate with the tray forming head to shape the tray. A second vacuum pickup clasps the formed tray at the hinge panel and draws it from the forming head into engagement with folding elements such that cover and receptacle sections are bent together along the hinge panel to form a closed box. The machine implementing the process is cam and lever motivated with a gluer for forming the folded end flaps and holding the box partially closed after the tray is formed for loading articles into the box before it is closed. A feed carriage moves a blank from the supply stack past a gluer to the path of a movable forming head which progresses vertically to traverse a former with the blank. Both forming head and former have flap benders for forming the blank into a tray, including movable plates for stressing the flaps and for supporting the tray. A second vacuum pickup draws the formed tray from the former and engages it with crimpers and ramps for closing the box. A loading station is included in the machine.
