A bioprosthetic heart valve is disclosed. In a first aspect of the invention, a prosthetic heart valve comprises three mammalian heart valve leaflets, each valve leaflet including a full root length of tissue, the valve leaflets being affixed to one another to define a fluid flow passage, the fluid flow through which may be governed by the valve leaflets. In a second aspect the heart valve comprises a plurality of heart valve leaflets affixed to one another to define a fluid flow passage, the fluid flow through which may be governed by the valve leaflets; and a permanent trimming guide on at least one of the plurality of valve leaflets. In yet a third aspect of the invention, a bioprosthetic heart valve comprises a plurality of assembled parts, wherein the assembled parts are sutured together by hidden and locking stitches.

Tri-composite, full root, stentless valve

A method for the treatment of an infected area within a body. The method comprises applying a electrically conductive biocide composition to an infected area within a body that has been exposed during surgery. Then, an electric field is applied to the biocide composition. The electric field strength and duration of application may be sufficient to produce killing of microorganisms in the infected area.

Sterilization of surgical sites

A device and method are disclosed for reinforcing an anastomotic site (24). The device (14) includes a body (16) and a cuff (18). The body (16) is formed to receive a vascular graft (10). The cuff (18) is coupled to the body (16) and is formed to couple to a target vessel (22) proximate the anastomotic site (24) and to engage the anastomotic site (24). According to one aspect, the cuff (18) is impregnated with medication (30) to be delivered directly to the anastomotic site (24). According to another aspect, the cuff (18) has an adhesive surface (34) for affixation to the target vessel (22).

Device and method for reinforcing an anastomotic site

A system and method are disclosed for implanting a medical device (12) into a body. The medical device (12) has an expanded state and a collapsed state and is inserted into the body while in the collapsed state. The medical device (12) is positioned proximate a desired implant site (14) in the body, and the medical device (12) is expanded to the expanded state by filling the medical device (12) with a hardenable fluid (18). The hardenable fluid (18) is then hardened such that the medical device (12) is set in the expanded state at the desired implant site (14).

System and method for implanting an expandable medical device into a body

An orthopedic prosthetic implant having a pyrolytic carbon or ceramic articulating surface and a metallic sheath or shell interfacing with adjacent bone. The articulating surface and shell are attached to one another with a layer of resilient adhesive, such as polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) which forms a shock absorbing layer between the pyrolytic carbon or ceramic parts and the metal parts. Also, a circumferential seal enclosing two adjacent articulating surfaces on adjacent implant parts. The invention further includes first and second implant parts having mating articulating surfaces, the first and second implant parts being joined by ligament structures. Ligament structures include bands or spring means connecting the first and second implant parts.
