A horizontal roof deck assembly has a ribbed steel roof deck sufficiently strong to withstand specified gravity, uplift, and shear loads. Rigid substrate boards are positioned adjacent one another above the deck, defining end and side joints. End joints are parallel to and above a corresponding upper rib of the roof deck and are secured to the upper rib by compression disk fasteners spaced along the end joint. The side joints can be tongue and groove joints. Additional fasteners attach the substrate boards to the roof deck along the side joints, for wind uplift resistance, and for thermal movement resistance.

Stabilized horizontal roof deck assemblies

Retrofitting a horizontal building roof having a pre-existing, composite-strength concrete roof having a corrugated steel deck with concrete poured over the deck top. Replacing the pre-existing roof with a dry-installed composite-strength roof having a rigid sheet installed over a corrugated steel deck, the rigid sheet attached to the deck by mechanical fasteners extending through the rigid sheet and the upper ribs of the corrugated deck. The newly installed roof restrains the upper ribs against lateral distortion under loading, thus forcing the corrugated deck to maintain shape and operate to composite capacities in excess of predictable flexural load capabilities of its components considered alone.

Methods of replacing compromised composite-strength concrete roofs

A cradle assembly for supporting and installing a rolled curtain door comprises roller assemblies configured to support, and permit the rolling of, a rolled curtain door thereon. The cradle may be mated with the tines of a fork on a lifting device. A lift assembly having a tower and base may be attached to the cradle assembly for manually positioning, and mechanically elevating the cradle and door when installing the door above an opening. The tower is extended by a piston-and-cylinder unit. A winch motor and cable, or a boom hoist attached to the tower may be used to load a door onto the cradle.

Curtain door installation system

A cradle for supporting and installing a rolled curtain door comprises rollers configured to support, and permit rolling, of a rolled curtain door thereon. Extensions with rollers permit the cradle to support rolled curtain doors of varying length. A motor may be connected to the rollers to assist in rotating the door. The cradle may be mounted on the tines of a fork on a lifting device. A lift assembly having a tower and base may be attached to the cradle for manually positioning, and mechanically elevating the cradle and door when installing the door. The tower is extended by a piston-and-cylinder unit. A winch motor and cable, or a boom hoist attached to the tower may be used to load a door onto the cradle.

A method of building a roof wherein a horizontally disposed roof deck assembly is formed comprising: a sheet of corrugated steel material, preferably having a symmetrical rib pattern wherein the quantity of steel is equally distributed above and below a neutral axis; a sheet of insulation material; and a sheet of rigid substrate material mechanically fastened together by screws. The screws extend through the rigid substrate and through ridges on the upper side of the corrugated sheet material to restrain the ridges from above against lateral distortion under loading, thus forcing the corrugated sheet to maintain its shape and operate to capacities in excess of its expected or predictable flexural load capabilities. The roof deck assembly is secured to a supporting structure and suitable adhesive material, such as asphalt, is employed for securing a waterproof covering thereover. Ventilation apparatus is provided to control temperature and pressure of air in channels between the upper surface of the corrugated sheet and the lower surface of the substrate; and the upper surface of the corrugated sheet has a reflective surface to reflect heat into the channels.

Roof deck construction

A building roof, having an optimum strength to weight ratio, and method of constructing the roof wherein a horizontally disposed roof deck assembly particularly adapted to provide diaphragm shear strength and shear stiffness is formed comprising: a sheet (12) of steel corrugated material, a sheet (14) of optional insulation material, and a sheet (16) of rigid substrate material mechanically fastened together by screws (18). The sheet (12) of corrugated material is welded to purlins (20) by elongated welds (40) formed to resist rotation of the corrugated sheet (12) in a horizontal plane. The screws (18) extend through the rigid substrate (16) and through rigids (11) on the upper side of the corrugated sheet (12) to form a truss-like structure extending generally parallel to the purlins (20). Weld washers 30 having elongated slots (35) are used to secure high tensile strength symmetrically corrugated steel (12) having a thickness in a range of 0.0144 inch to 0.0359 inch to purlins (20) to provide diaphragm shear stiffness and shear strength.
