Exemplary embodiments are directed to an augment and methods of implanting an augment. The methods include inserting the augment into a bone cavity of a bone of a host. The augment includes a body with an outer surface and at least one hole preformed in the body. The method includes introducing a fastener from an outer surface of the bone into a hole formed in the bone and engaging the fastener with the hole of the bone. The method includes passing the fastener through the hole of the bone. The method includes introducing into and engaging the fastener with the at least one hole in the body of the augment to fixate the augment within the bone cavity.

Augments and methods of implanting augments

A glucose measuring system includes a glucose meter that incorporates wireless communication capabilities. The meter can advantageously be a low cost meter by eliminating expensive components, such as the display. The user nevertheless is able to retrieve and view his or her glucose values by referring to displays within the glucose measuring local area network. Feedback via these displays can advantageously be used by the diabetic to create a higher level of confidence and safety.

One method can include inserting a bone fixation device into an intramedullary space of the bone to place at least a portion of an elongate body of the fixation device in a flexible state on one side of the fracture and at least a portion of a rigid hub on another side of the fracture, and operating an actuator to deploy a plurality of grippers of the fixation device to engage an inner surface of the intramedullary space to anchor the fixation device to the bone.

A bone fixation device is provided with an elongate body having a longitudinal axis and having a first state in which at least a portion of the body is flexible and a second state in which the body is generally rigid, an actuateable gripper disposed at one or more locations on the elongated body, a hub located on a proximal end of the elongated body, and an actuator operably connected to the gripper(s) to deploy the gripper(s) from a retracted configuration to an expanded configuration. Methods of repairing a fracture of a bone are also disclosed. One such method comprises inserting a bone fixation device into an intramedullary space of the bone to place at least a portion of an elongate body of the fixation device in a flexible state on one side of the fracture and at least a portion of a hub on another side of the fracture, and operating an actuator to deploy at least one gripper of the fixation device to engage an inner surface of the intramedullary space to anchor the fixation device to the bone. Alternative gripper designs are disclosed that may be used in various combinations.

Bone fixation device, tools and methods

A segmented bone fixation device is provided with an elongate body having a longitudinal axis and having a first state in which at least a portion of the body is flexible and a second state in which the body is generally rigid. Methods of repairing a fracture of a bone are also disclosed. One such method comprises inserting a segmented fixation device into an intramedullary space of the bone to place at least a portion of the fixation device in a flexible state on one side of the fracture, providing rigidity across the fracture, and operating an actuator to deploy at least one gripper to engage an inner surface of the intramedullary space to anchor the fixation device to the bone. Various configurations allow a segmented device body to change shape as it moves from a flexible state to a rigid state.

Segmented intramedullary fracture fixation devices and methods

A straight intramedullary bone fracture fixation device is provided with an elongate body having a longitudinal axis for deployment in a long bone, such as a clavicle. Methods of repairing a fracture of a bone are also disclosed. One such method comprises inserting a bone fixation device into an intramedullary space of the bone to place at least a portion of an elongate body of the fixation device on one side of the fracture and at least a portion of a hub on another side of the fracture, and engaging an inner surface of the intramedullary space to anchor the fixation device to the bone. Various configurations and designs may be used in combination with other fixation device components.

Straight intramedullary fracture fixation devices and methods

A musical performance riser having an interior area and a rigid block made from multiple layers of foam material of varying densities incorporated within that area. The block further includes a number of holes or chambers to trap sound. When the riser is used in performances, sound waves created by the object placed on the riser are reduced or dissipated as they travel down the block through the foam layers and chambers with the result being reduced acoustic interference and a better listening experience for the audience. A method of repairing a bone fracture comprises accessing a fracture along a length of a bone through a bony protuberance at an access point near an end of a bone. A bone fixation device is advanced into a space through the access point at the end of the bone. A portion of the bone fixation device is bent along its length to traverse the fracture. The bone fixation device is locked into place within the space of the bone.
