A scalable and portable disc player or recorder for containing and transferring audio, video or computer data to and from an optical disc of various sizes. The casing of the disc player provides a case scaling mechanism having a set of pivotal wings and slidable sleeves that can be adjusted to accommodate various optical disc sizes. This same process changes the structural size of the disc player casing.

A write-protect ring for protecting an optical disk from being written upon is disclosed. The write-protect ring includes an adhesive portion and a non-adhesive portion so that the non-adhesive portion is nearer data regions of the optical disk, thereby preventing the adhesive from interfering with the data on the optical disk. The write-protect ring may also include permanent adhesive which prevents the write-protect ring from being removed from the optical disk without damage to the optical disk.

The present invention is a device and method to install a compact disk media write-protect ring,The device,positions the write-protect ring,so that it is aligned with the center hole of the disk,Aligning the write-protect ring,with the center of the disk,ensures that the ring is in the correct location, thereby enabling the write protect function. The device,includes a hub,upon which the center hole of the disk,is pressed, thereby securing the disk to the device. The device,also includes a support,that surrounds the hub,and is connected to the hub so that it may move axially along the hub. This support,serves as a shelf for the write-protecting,and a press to assure good contact between the disk and the adhesive of the write-protect ring. In operation the write-protect ring,is positioned on the support,with the adhesive exposed and facing upwards away built the support. The disk,is then placed on the hub,with its data side down. As the hole of die disk,is pressed down upon the hub,the support,of the device,presses the write-protect ring,against the die, causing the write-protect ring to adhere to the disk.

A cartridge tape door opener for DC2000 and TRAVAN tape cartridges. The present invention utilizes a rotatable arm to engage a rear edge of a tape door located on the tape cartridges. The interaction of the rotatable arm with the tape door edge causes the tape door to rotate open allowing access to magnetic tape inside the tape cartridge by a read/write head. This rotatable arm is spring loaded such that once the tape door is opened, the arm can be moved to the side and out of the way of an TRAVAN tape cartridge. When a DC2000 tape cartridge is used, the rotatable arm acts as a fixed door opening rail and does not rotate. By utilizing this new tape door opener, both types of tape cartridges may be used in a single tape drive.

Cartridge tape door opening apparatus for use with tape cartridges having differing size formats

A carrier, for use in installing electronic devices, for example, computer peripherals, into an enclosure, includes an actuator. In a specific example embodiment, the actuator is a sliding cam plate. During insertion of the carrier into the enclosure, the cam plate extends beyond a cosmetic bezel of the electronic device. The carrier is inserted into an enclosure until the device bezel is flush with the front of the enclosure. Then, pushing the cam plate inward causes compressible pads on the sides of the carrier to be pushed outward, clamping the carrier to the sides of the enclosure. In addition, pushing the cam plate inward also causes metal surfaces to be pushed outward to contact the enclosure sidewalls for electrical grounding. Electronic devices preferably include an adapter cable. Cables internal to the enclosure are connected to the adapter cable, the adapter cable is connected to the electronic device, and an unconnected portion of the adapter cable is then available for installation of an additional electronic device.

A system for attaching an adhesive backed write-protect ring to an optical disk with the center of the ring aligned to the center of the central hole in the disk. A write-protect assembly is formed from a multilayer material having an adhesive backed label layer and a backing layer. The write-protect assembly includes a removable innermost area that, when removed, forms a hole having a diameter that is the same diameter as the central hole of an optical disk. The innermost area is at least partially surrounded by a ring shaped alignment area that is also removable. Finally, the alignment area is surrounded by the write-protect ring. The central area of the assembly is punched out to form a hole and the backing material is removed from at least part of the write protect area, exposing the adhesive coated surface. The assembly and an optical disk are placed onto an alignment cylinder. The alignment area of the write-protect assembly ensures that the center of the write-protect ring is aligned to the center of the hole in the disk. Finally, the disk with write-protect ring and alignment area attached is removed from the alignment cylinder and the alignment area of the write-protect assembly is removed, leaving just the write-protect ring attached to the disk. The hub of the plastic insert tray of a CD jewel case may be used for an alignment cylinder. In an alternative embodiment of the invention, the write-protect assembly is placed onto the hub first, and the design of the assembly is such that the hub helps remove the central area and the hub helps removal of the backing over the write-protect ring.

An enclosure having two pieces that are held together with spring clips and having a stand that covers each spring clip. The spring clips provide a high retention force for vibration and shock. The stands cover the spring clips and provide anti-slip feet. In an example embodiment, the enclosure has a hinge surface formed from mating edges of the two pieces on one side with the spring clips holding the two pieces together on an opposite side. For automated assembly, the two pieces are joined at the hinge surfaces and then snapped into the spring clips and stands.

A drive chassis for magnetic tapes, the chassis having adjustable azimuth for a magnetic head. The magnetic head is mounted onto a plate. The plate has one end forming a hinge surface. The hinge surface is forced into contact with a stationary hinge surface on the chassis. A second end of the plate is moveable, permitting the plate to rotate around the hinge surfaces, thereby rotating the magnetic head. A spring in contact with the second end of the plate forces the hinge surface of the plate against the hinge surface on the chassis. In a preferred embodiment, the spring is integral with a side wall of the chassis.

Disclosed is a clip device for being removably secured to a marginal edge portion of a sheet of flexible material, and having a sheet-engaging portion that extends forwardly from the rear portion of the device body, which sheet-engaging portion includes an integral tongue which projects forwardly from the device's rear portion and which is resiliently deflectable from the general plane of the device body, and the sheet-engaging portion further including a peripheral frame member which also extends forwardly from the device rear portion and having a front end with an inner edge that lies adjacent the front end of the undeflected tongue. The device has an open position in which the tongue is downwardly deflected away from a first side of the frame to provide a gap for insertion of a marginal edge portion of sheet material, and also a locked configuration to which the tongue may be urged by manipulating it through the frame member to the other side of the frame member so that the front edge of the tongue lies in close proximity to the frame front end, the clip being operative to frictionally secure sheet material between the front edge of the tongue and the frame.

An air flow controller is associated with a cabinet which contains apparatus and components for performing operations or conducting processes. Associated with the cabinet is a housing within which is contained an air filtration material. Air is admitted and propelled for flow through that material and delivery into the confined space defined by the cabinet. The amount of propulsion is controlled in response to the rate of flow of air through the housing in order to maintain a selected rate of flow in compensation for changes in impedence to flow of air through the material. The amount of propulsion also is controlled in response to other parameters, such as pressure differential across the material, pressure differential across a prefilter upstream, a measure of the rate of air flow into the cabinet, ambient temperature within the cabinet, pressure differential between outside atmospheric pressure and each of the housing and the cabinet and relative humidity within the cabinet. Those controlled parameters are continually analyzed with the results being used for control and/or record keeping. Containing the filtration material within the housing is a removable canister within which the material is compartmentalized to define a maze through which air flows. The canister is closed by a shell which also sandwiches a high-efficiency sheet filter located in the air flow path. The components are sealed together, so as to define an air-tight cartridge.

A controller is associated with a cabinet which contains apparatus and components for performing operations or conducting processes. Associated with the cabinet is a housing within which is contained an air filtration material. The blower unit is controlled in response to the rate of flow of air through the housing in order to maintain a selected rate of flow in compensation for changes in impedence to flow of air through the material. A water filter connects into a waterline which feeds a faucet separate from the filter. A filter cartridge is seated within a canister and has an inlet and an outlet. The canister is removably attached to a cap in which is disposed an entrance port to communicate with the outlet and an exit port to communicate with the inlet. Also in the cap are an input port for receiving water from the line, an output port for delivering water into the line to feed the faucet, a passage which communicates between the input port and the exit port, a passageway which communicates between the input port and the output port and a channel which communicates between the entrance port and the output port. A diverter in the cap responds to a rate of water flow from the faucet of less than a predetermined amount for opening the passage and the channel and closing the passageway, while being responsive to a rate of flow greater than such amount for closing the passage and the channel but opening the passageway. A selector at the faucet is manually adjustable to determine which rate of flow occurs, that selection making the determination of whether the water delivered to the faucet has been filtered or has bypassed the filter. Alternative coupling arrangements permit the water filter to be readily connected into an existing water line of essentially any orientation by cutting that line at only one point.
