A device and method is provided for separating associated ions within a gaseous fluid stream into a first population of positively-charged hydrated hydrogen ions and a second population of gaseous hydrated anions. The device employs a housing and spinning wheel within a vacuum chamber to expose a flow of associated ions to a combination of microwaves and magnetic energy within the vacuum to cause bifurcation of the associated ions into a first population of positively-charged hydrated hydrogen ions and a second population of gaseous hydrated anions which may be collected in reservoirs. The collected two populations can be further channeled through a transformer to electrically induce a force for locomotion or communication.

Paper useful in the manufacture of gypsum wallboard is surfaced treated with an additive to improve the bonding affinity of the paper for wet plaster thereby permitting the manufacture of gypsum wallboard with little or no added starch and reduced amounts of water. Pigmented coated paper is prepared by adding a water-soluble hydroxyalkylcellulose (HAC) with an alkyl moiety of 1 to 4 carbons, or water soluble alkylhydroxyalkylcellulose (AHAC) with an alkyl hydrophobe of 1 to 24 carbons to a pigmented wet coating formulation in an amount equal to or greater than 0.15 parts HAC or AHAC based on pigment content of the coating and applying the pigmented wet coating formulation to a moving paper web via roller metering size press, wherein the use of HAC or AHAC in the pigmented coating significantly reduce misting of the coating during application as compared to the control condition with no HAC or AHAC added.

Processes for preparing personal care compositions utilizing the fluidized polymer suspensions are also disclosed. Using the fluidized polymer suspensions in the processes provides the advantages of more rapid dissolution and avoidance of lumps and gels when compared to using dry, powdered cationic polysaccharides.

A paper coating composition has therein an optical brightening agent (OBA) and a water-soluble non-ionic polysaccharide derivative, exhibiting a solution viscosity in water of less than 1500 cps when dissolved at 5% polymer concentration, wherein the paper coating provides improved optical brightness as compared to the same formulation without said non-ionic, polysaccharide derivative. A paper coated with this composition has an optical brightness value of greater than 70.

PEO is dispersed in an aqueous solution of at least one salt selected from the group consisting of sodium or potassium formate, sodium or potassium hydroxide, sodium or potassium citrate, sodium or potassium acetate, sodium chloride or mixtures thereof to form a poly(ethylene oxide) suspension having at least 15% of poly(ethylene oxide) by total weigh. This suspension is dissolved in said dispersion in an aqueous system containing ferric ions or free chlorine; and said dissolved aqueous system is added to a pulp slurry for making paper just prior to forming the pulp into a wet web, whereby said aqueous suspension prevents the loss of fiber fines during the paper formation stage and resists viscosity loss due to ferric ions or free chlorine in the aqueous system.
