An apparatus is shown for attachment to a plumbing system for the rapid on-demand delivery of hot water through the plumbing system to an ultimate point of use. The apparatus includes a diverter valve located in a hot water supply line upstream of the point of use. The diverter valve is actuated for a predetermined interval by a user to initially purge cold water from the hot water line to a drain. After the preset interval, the valve automatically closes. The initial diversion of cold water standing in the water supply line causes rapid delivery of hot water to the point of use once the diverter valve has completed its cycle.

The adhesive bandage pad module, and method of making an adhesive bandage pad, include a servo motor which rotates a knife roll, a transfer roll, and an infeed assembly, a continuous pad strip fed to the infeed assembly, a knife roll and a blade that cuts the continuous pad strip against an anvil, that tangentially contacts the knife roll, on the knife roll. In the module, the amount of pressure exerted by the blade upon the anvil, and transferring of the cut pad onto an adhesive backing on the transfer roll are controlled.

The invention includes of a system and method of ultrasonically perforating adhesive bandage backings. The invention eliminates the gap between the ultrasonic horn and the pin roll, and provides for a wear resistant release coating on the pin roll. Further, the method and system disclose cooling the ultrasonic horn with a forced air stream, and provide for a pre- or post-nip roll to control the tension of the continuous web of backing. The web of backing is kept under tension with a nip roll, and passes between an ultrasonic horn and an immediately adjacent pin roll for perforation by the ultrasonic horn. The resulting material of the web backing is smoother, and has better hole quality than that seen in the prior art.

Detergent compositions, including, but not limited to, anti-residue shampoos, are provided which include one or more anionic surfactants, an anionic polymer, a mono cationic conditioning agent, and a cationic polymer. These shampoos are preferably clear. Additionally, there is provided a recirculatory batch processor which includes a disperser and at least one pump selected from a supply pump and a return pump. The pump is in communication with the disperser. Furthermore, a recirculatory batch process is provided which includes the steps of delivering, at a first rate, a liquid from a tank to a recirculatory batch processor as described above; during the delivery, dispersing solids into the liquid to produce a liquid containing dispersed solids; and during the delivery, returning, at a second rate, the liquid containing dispersed solids to the tank; wherein the second rate is greater than the first rate.

In a fluid heating apparatus having a fluid tank, a combustion chamber communicating with the fluid tank for heat exchange, and a combustible fluid delivery system coupled to the combustion chamber, a plurality of valves are individually configured in either an off-state or an on-state for delivering combustible fluid to the combustion chamber. Depending on the configuration of the multiple valves, the rate at which combustible fluid is supplied to the combustion chamber may be varied in response to a heat demand signal. Individual valve signals are generated for each of the multiple valves in response to the heat demand signal to place the multiple valves in a configuration to supply combustible fluid at predetermined rates. The demand signal is calculated in response to reading temperature at an inlet temperature probe and an outlet temperature probe, wherein the outlet temperature probe is located nearer a fluid outlet from the fluid tank than is the inlet temperature probe. The heat demand signal may also be a function of the excess of a set point temperature over a temperature measured by the outlet temperature probe. An airblower may also be coupled to the combustion chamber and operated in a plurality of modes for supplying air at a plurality of rates in response to the heat demand signal. The rates of air supply provided by the air blower are selected to supply air at a stoichiometric rates in relation to the fuel supply rates provided by various configurations of the valves in the combustible fluid delivery system.

A water heater/boiler design is shown having a tank with a submergible, pressurized combustion chamber and a resilient sealing means which divides the interior of the water heater tank into a primary and secondary heat exchange compartments. A forced draft burner is used to heat the combustion chamber with the products of combustion passing through multiple heat exchange surfaces to a flue collector located on the exterior of the device.

A weight lifting device, such as a dumbbell or bar bell, for exercise is provided with a handle to which a pair of fluid impermeable hollow chambers or containers are disposed at opposite ends for holding a weighting fluid. Each chamber has a sealable opening for accessing the interior of the hollow chamber and is provided with a plug for sealing the opening. A plurality of fluid displacement members are provided and are sized to pass through the sealable opening into the interior of the hollow chamber. The fluid displacement members displace a selected volume of the weighting fluid within the chambers so that the volume of fluid required to fill the chambers can be varied, thus varying the weight of the device.

A direct contact water heater is provided having an upright, closed cylindrical tank formed from an outer tank shell. The outer tank shell has a top, a bottom and an external sidewall extending between the top and bottom to define an interior of the tank. A combustion chamber is centrally located within the interior of the tank. Combustible fuel is introduced downward from a combustion means into the combustion chamber and is ignited in the presence of air within the combustion chamber to create products of combustion. A plurality of spray nozzles are connected to a water supply to be heated. The spray nozzles are evenly spaced around and along the length of the combustion chamber for directing water from the water supply into the combustion chamber so that more uniform contact of the water is achieved with the products of combustion to facilitate heating of the water.

Direct contact water heater

A water heater is shown having a closed tank with an opening for receiving a combustion chamber, the interior of the tank normally containing water under pressure. A combustion chamber is located within the tank interior and includes a body portion having an open end adjacent the tank opening into which combustible fuel is introduced and ignited in the presence of air to create products of combustion. A flue collector is mounted on the exterior of the closed tank and has an annular chamber surrounding a flue opening for receiving the products of combustion for exhaustion to the atmosphere. An outer wall portion closes one end of the flue opening to provide a closed compartment within the collector which can be pressurized by an external blower. An inner wall portion of the collector has an opening which communicates with the combustion chamber. A fuel supply conduit carries a pressure plate and electrodes which provide controlled ignition of the fuel and air mixture within the opening in the inner wall portion to provide heat to the combustion chamber of the closed tank.

Combination burner and flue gas collector for water heaters and boilers

A system and method for controlling operation of a water heater provides generating a heating demand signal which a minimum level corresponds to a required heat input for maintaining water temperature in the water tank in case of no exogenous demand for water. Responsive to the heating demand signal, air flow from the forced draft blower and flow of combustible fluid from the combustible fluid delivery system are varied to produce combustion product over a minimum 15 to 1 ratio. This allows water heating to be varied to meet maximum expected exogenous demand or to maintain water temperature with no exogenous demand.

System and method for reduced purge operation of a forced draft burner

An improved water heater is shown which includes a water heating tank having external cylindrical sidewalls, an interior, and initially open upper and lower ends. A combustion chamber is connectable to the water heating tank and houses a burner for the combustion of a selected fossil fuel. A fire tube unit of a fixed length is received within the interior of the water heater tank and has an upper transverse wall section, a lower transverse wall section and interconnecting fire tubes. The fire tubes have open interiors which receive the products of combustion from the combustion chamber for heating water contained in the water heating tank. Flanges and resilient seals are located at the upper and lower ends of the water heating tank for securing the fire tube unit within the interior thereof. The resilient seals can be selectively sized to accommodate dimensional tolerances which occur between the fixed length of the fire tube unit and the water heater tank, allowing the components to be assembled in modular fashion.

Modular vertical tube tank and method of manufacture

A potable, hot water storage vessel is shown with a metallic body having a water inlet, water outlet and at least one additional opening communicating the vessel interior and exterior. A flexible, non-molded liner is installed within the vessel interior through the additional opening. The liner has integrally formed ports which extend through the vessel inlet and outlets to the exterior of the vessel body. A bolt-on flange is received on the vessel exterior at the inlet and outlet to form a seal with each of the liner ports.
