Homogeneous storage-stable liquid stabilizer systems for polyvinyl chloride resins are provided which are substantially solvent-free and have a low viscosity and a minimum flash point of 96.degree. C., containing, as the essential ingredients, a liquid barium carbonate-barium alkyl phenate; a cadmium salt of a branched chain C.sub.5 to C.sub.13 aliphatic carboxylic acid and/or of an aromatic C.sub.7 to C.sub.11 carboxylic acid and/or of C.sub.12 to C.sub.22 unsaturated aliphatic carboxylic acid; and a liquid organic triphosphite in an amount to form a homogeneous storage-stable liquid; the total weight percent of barium and cadmium in the stabilizer system being at least 13%, and the ratio of the weight percent of cadmium to the weight percent of barium being within the range from about 0.5:1 to about 1.5:1; optionally together with any one or more of a soluble zinc salt of a carboxylic acid, a soluble phenolic antioxidant, a liquid organic acid phosphite, and a soluble carboxylic acid.

The resistance to deterioration of polyvinyl chloride resins when heated and worked is improved by combinations of polyvinyl chloride resin stabilizers and alpha-olefin oligomers obtained by oligomerization of a 1-olefin having from six to about twelve carbon atoms, and having a highly branched chain with alkyl substituents of at least two carbon atoms.

Polyvinyl chloride resin compositions are provided, suitable for use as electrical insulation material, having a high volume resistivity and a high resistance to deterioration when heated at temperatures above 100.degree. C., comprising as the essential ingredients a polyvinyl chloride resin and, in the amounts indicated, in parts per one hundred of resin, from about 30 to about 100 parts mono or poly carboxylic acid ester plasticizer; from about 5 to about 25 parts filler; from about 1 to about 20 parts epoxy compound, and from about 1 to about 20 parts lead alkyl phenolate.

Polyvinyl chloride resin compositions having a high volume resistivity

Stabilizer compositions for rigid polyvinyl chloride resin compositions are provided comprising an antimony mercaptocarboxylic acid or ester and a mercaptocarboxylic acid ester in amounts within the range from about 90 to about 25 parts antimony mercaptocarboxylic acid or ester and from about 10 to about 75 parts mercaptocarboxylic acid ester; the amount of mercaptocarboxylic acid ester being selected within these ranges to synergize the stabilizing effectiveness of the antimony mercaptocarboxylic acid or ester. Rigid polyvinyl chloride resin compositions also are provided having their resistance to the development of early discoloration enhanced by a stabilizing amount of the antimony mercaptocarboxylic acid or ester and mercaptocarboxylic acid ester, the synergistic effect being particularly evidenced in rigid polyvinyl chloride resin compositions containing both an ortho-dihydric phenol and an alkaline earth metal carboxylate, such as catechol and calcium stearate.

Stabilizer mixtures are provided for rigid polyvinyl chloride resin compositions, capable of enhancing the resistance of the polyvinyl chloride resin to the development of an early discoloration during the first five to twenty minutes of heating at elevated processing temperatures, of the order of 375.degree. F. and higher, comprising a monoalkyltin 2-acyloxyethylmercaptide and/or a dialkyltin 2-acyloxyethylmercaptide inadmixture with an alkyltin sulfide.
