Abrading wheel with sintered metal core

A method and apparatus for finishing the surface of rubber or synthetic covered rollers () is disclosed. As seen in FIG., a rotating hub () having a circumferential abrasion band () and an adjacent set of rasp blades () arranged end-to-end and extending circumferentially about the hub is used to progressively and sequentially removebands of surface material by cutting and then abrading as the hub and roller are rotated and one is moved axially relative to the other.

Method and apparatus for finishing the surface of rubber covered rollers

A rasp hub for use in tire retreading machines includes two side plates with mounting pins extending between the plates. Rasp blades arranged in stacks are mounted on the mounting pins. The stacks extend end-to-end circumferentially about the hub. The center portion of the mounting pins is curved so that the cut profile of the blades is convex. The blades are inclined relative to a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation to define a cut angle. The center planes of the mounting pins intersect, preferably close to the axis of rotation of the hub, to reduce deviation of the blades from the concentricity.

Rasp hub for tire retreading machine

A rasp blade includes a mounting aperture having at least two aperture segments which are laterally spaced and communicate with each other. Each aperture segment may independently secure the blade on a mounting pin. Alternate blades are mounted using different aperture segments to fix adjacent blades in laterally offset positions, thereby staggering the teeth in adjacent blades.

Tire rasp blade and method

The present invention is directed to a rotatable abrading wheel assembly useful to finish rubber articles such as tire casings. The assembly has three rotatable wheels, with a central abrading wheel disposed between a pair of lateral support wheels. Each of the three wheels is stamped and formed from sheet metal stock and includes one or more apertures to accommodate an abrading tool drive shaft. The central abrading wheel has a diameter greater than that of the lateral support wheels to thereby provide peripheral abrading portion which is comprised of a series of circumferentially spaced teeth.

Rubber cutting apparatus

A rasp hub assembly for use in a tire buffing machine is disclosed. The hub assembly includes two end plates, and a set of tire rasp blades and spacers arranged in alternating circumferential rows. The blades and spacers have conforming nonplanar elongated bodies, with the blades nested with adjacent spacers. The resulting rasp hub assembly allows the use of an even or odd number of rasp blades in each row, and provides various benefits further described in the specification.

An abrading apparatus formed from sheet stock and processes for making the same are disclosed. The abrading apparatus has a base with a plurality of cantilevered members extending from the periphery of the base with each cantilevered member formed to provide a discontinuous abrading surface along the periphery of the apparatus. A process for making this abrading apparatus includes the steps of forming from a single piece of sheet stock a base having a plurality of cantilevered members, positioning the cantilevered members at an angle relative to the plane of the base, and forming the cantilevered members to provide exterior surfaces upon which an abrasive surface may be provided.

A tire trimmer tool has an elongated handle and a U-shaped frame to which a blade of undulated sheet metal is detachably mounted. The undulations comprise closely-spaced parallel ridges which extend front and rear, are open on their underside and are united by narrow connecting webs. The undulations are arranged across the full width of the blade; and the outermost undulations which comprise the two sides of the blade have upturned walls, the edge of which seat is facing slots provided the legs of the U-frame; and an adjustable clamp which connects the two legs secures the blade in place. The fore end of the blade is sharpened on its underside and a narrow transverse portion of the blade therebehind is struck or turned upwardly across the full width of the blade and limits bowing of the blade in response to tightening of the clamp.

Tire trimmer

The outer edge of teeth of tire buffing machine blades is interrupted by oppositely curved arcuate slots which are cupped on centers disposed below the center on which the adjacent one of the leading and trailing deeper cutting side edges of the tooth are cupped. Between said arcuate slots, the outer edge has a shallower arcuate notch the ends of which are obtuse to the tooth outer edge. The portions of the tooth outer edge between the arcuate slots and the tooth cutting side edges are displaced laterally to opposite sides of the teeth and the inner portions of the tooth outer edge between said arcuate slots and the notch are transversely offset to the remainder of the tooth such that the teeth successively present to the tire surface being buffed a first sharply acute deeply cutting edge, then a sharply acute lighter cutting edge of shallower depth followed by an obtuse buffing edge and a more bluntly obtuse second buffing edge which act to finish the tire surface to a required texture.

Tire rasp blade having multi-cutting edges

Manual tool used for trimming mold flash and protuberances from a tire has a handle with ends which are slotted to receive mounting flanges of a undulated sheet metal blade. The blade is so folded that its undulations comprise closely spaced ridges which extend from front to rear, are open on their underside and are united by narrow intervening webs. The underside of the lead edge of the blade is sloped along an arc and/or angle providing the blade with recesses in said leading edge between the ridges. The recesses have sharp cutting edges which cut entering flash close to the tire surface, the open under side of the ridges on either side of the webs providing clearance for missed flash and trimmings so that the tool blade is not raised off the tire surface in use of the tool.

Tire rasp is disclosed for a tire buffing machine in which the blades and spacers are removably assembled in holders which in turn are removably assembled between the top and base plates of a hub comprising the tire rasp. Each holder and its assembly of blades and spacers are separately removable from the reversible in the tire rasp hub.
