A liquid crystal cell comprising a pair of opposed plates spaced apart a predetermined distance and containing a liquid crystal material confined therebetween by a fluoroelastomeric terpolymer sealant comprising repeating units of vinylidene fluoride, hexafluoropropylene and tetrafluoroethylene.

A process for preparing polymeric oximes and photographic processing compositions containing polymeric oximes are described. The polymeric oximes are prepared by a process which comprises: introducing into an aqueous polymerization medium a portion of a polymerizable monomer to be polymerized, said polymerizable monomer having the formula ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen or methyl, R.sup.1 is hydrogen, alkyl of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, benzyl or phenyl, R.sup.2 is alkyl of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, benzyl or phenyl, alkylene is a divalent alkylene radical having 1 or 2 carbon atoms, and R.sup.3 is hydrogen, alkyl of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms or phenyl; initiating the emulsion polymerization of said monomer, and while maintaining said polymerization, introducing substantially uniformly over the course of the polymerization, the remaining polymerizable monomer to be polymerized, thereby to provide a polymeric latex of polymeric particles of said polymerizable monomer in a water medium; contacting said polymeric latex with an organic solvent for said latex particles in an amount sufficient to effect swelling of the polymeric particles in said medium; and oximating the swollen polymeric particles by reaction with hydroxylamine salt and an amount of alkalinity sufficient to provide free hydroxylamine for said oximation but insufficient to effect alkali solubilization of the resulting oximated polymeric particles.

Process for preparing polymeric oximes and compositions containing same

Diffusion transfer films and processes are disclosed wherein the processing composition includes a light-reflecting pigment and an optical filter agent, and the image-receiving layer carries over it a layer of unhardened gelatin adapted to decolorize optical filter agent immediately adjacent the interface between said processing composition and said decolorizing layer.

A laminar triplex structure for use in the manufacture of electrical cells and batteries, cells and batteries made therefrom, and methods of making the same. The laminate comprises a thin flat sheet of separator material, a layer of metallic particles on one surface of the separator sheet and adhered thereto with a binder, and a layer of conductive plastic adhered to the layer of metal particles. The laminate is made by the process of coating a dispersion of metal particles in a solution of a polymeric binder in an organic solvent over the separator, drying to remove the solvent, coating over the dried metal layer with a dispersion of conductive particles in a solution of a polymer in an organic solvent, and drying to remove the solvent.

Transparent elements useful as supports for photographic image-carrying and/or image-recording layers are provided comprising a polyester film base having an anti-reflection coating on one surface. Image-carrying and/or image-recording layers may be coated on the opposed surface. The polyester film base of the transparent element has an index of refraction of at least 1.6, and the anti-reflection coating comprises a fluorinated polymer and has an optical thickness of a quarter wave. An isocyanate in the anti-reflection coating or between said coating and the polyester film base increases the abrasion resistance of the fluorinated polymer anti-reflection coating.
