A motor housing assembly is formed by positioning a stator relative to a motor housing to configure a fillable gap between the stator and the motor housing, and filling the fillable gap is at least partially with a polymeric material to form a thermally conductive layer. The polymeric material may include a metallic filler material. The thermally conductive layer is in contact with an exterior surface of the stator and an interior surface of the motor housing adjacent the exterior surface of the stator, and is configured to cover at least half of the exterior surface. A method to form the thermally conductive layer includes injecting a high flow polymeric material through a port defined by the housing and in fluid communication with the fillable gap.

Method of making a motor housing assembly

A composite accumulator includes a base having a closed end and an open end, the base having an inner surface that defines a cavity and having a fluid port in communication with the cavity for communicating a hydraulic fluid in and out of the cavity. A cover is disposed over the open end of the base and is secured to the base by a fastener. A piston is disposed within the base and the cover. The piston is sealed to the inner surface of the cover and is translatable along an axis. A biasing member is disposed within the base and the cover and located axially between the piston and the cover. The base and the cover are plastic.

Composite accumulator

An assembly clip for holding together a stationary hydraulic lash adjuster (SHLA) and a roller finger follower (RFF) in a valve train of an internal combustion engine (ICE) is provided. The SHLA has a pivot, and the RFF has a pivot cap configured to fit around the pivot. The assembly clip includes a first attachment section and a second attachment section configured to engage with the pivot cap and pivot, respectively, to attach the assembly clip to the RFF and SHLA, respectively. When assembled, the pivot and the pivot end are substantially located between the first attachment section and the second attachment section, the pivot cap covering at least a portion of the pivot. The assembly clip is made of an oil soluble material such that it may dissolve and break away after the valve train is assembled into the ICE, and the assembly clip no longer serves a function.

Stationary hydraulic lash adjuster and roller finger follower assembly clip, and method thereof

A method of forming an emblem assembly configured for attachment to a vehicle includes positioning a mask adjacent and in contact with a second element so that the mask covers only a selected portion of the second element and does not cover an exposed portion of the second element. The method includes vacuum metalizing a first coating onto only the exposed portion, wherein the first coating has a distal edge surface abutting the mask, and, after vacuum metalizing, removing the mask from the second element to uncover the selected portion. The method includes depositing a back coating onto only the first coating and the selected portion to thereby wrap the back coating around the distal edge surface, and, after depositing, inserting the second element into a first element configured for attachment to the vehicle so that the first coating does not contact the first element to form the assembly.

Emblem assembly and method of forming same

An engine front cover assembly includes a plastic engine cover. A metal insert is secured within the plastic engine cover and defines a bore configured to receive a rotating engine component. A seal is located in a seal seat defined within the bore of the metal insert and configured to sealingly engage the rotating engine component. The metal insert is overmolded within the plastic engine cover and serves as a datum point to properly locate the seal relative to the rotating engine component.

A shaft assembly includes a shaft, a spacer and a cover. The body of the shaft includes a sealing portion, a balancing portion and a hollow portion which may collectively define a generally cylindrical space. The spacer substantially encloses the hollow portion of the body. The cover encapsulates the shaft body and the spacer to provide a substantially continuous cylindrical surface in sealing engagement with the sealing portion. The shaft assembly may be rotatably installed in an engine such that the balancing portion may be partially submerged in an oil bath in the engine and such that the substantially continuous cylindrical surface of the cover minimizes turbulence and aeration of the oil bath when the shaft assembly is rotated. The shaft may be configured for rotation in synchrony with a crankshaft. A method for encapsulating the shaft includes forming a continuous cylindrical surface in sealing engagement with the shaft body.

Encapsulated balance shaft and method

A thermoforming methodology for laminated thermoplastic sheets which preserves the class 'A' finish and high gloss thereof. In a thermoforming process including heating followed by vacuum and opposing air pressure application, and then followed by application of chilled compressed air, control of spherulite formation using any of: addition of a nucleating agent to the paint film, using the chilled compressed air at a temperature of substantially about 32&#xb0; F., heating to no more than about 311&#xb0; F., selecting a paint film having a high melting point temperature, and selecting a paint film that is non-crystalline.

Thermoforming process for producing class 'A' finish, high gloss automotive exterior parts

A thermoforming methodology for laminated thermoplastic sheets which preserves the class 'A' finish and high gloss thereof. A thermoformer has a vacuum box component which includes a mold, and a pressure box component which is selectively sealable in relation to the vacuum box component. A heated laminated thermoplastic sheet is placed in the thermoformer, the class 'A' side thereof facing away from the mold, and the thermoformer sealed. Vacuum is applied to the vacuum box component and simultaneously air pressure is applied to the pressure box component, including application of chilled compressed air, resulting in forming of the sheet on the mold and controlled cooling of the sheet which preserves its class &#x201c;A&#x201d; finish and high gloss.

A thermoplastic olefin composition useful for making molded articles with high surface gloss and mar resistance includes (1) about 10 to about 90 parts of a propylene homopolymer, copolymer, or terpolymer, (2) about 90 to about 10 parts of either an olefin polymer composition that contains a low molecular weight ethylene copolymer rubber; an elastomeric copolymer of ethylene and a C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 .alpha.-olefin made with a metallocene catalyst, or a mixture of the two, and (3) about 0.1 to about 10 parts of a lubricant per hundred parts of (1) plus (2).

Thermoplastic olefin articles having high surface gloss and mar

An improved gas-phase polymerization process for producing in-situ thermoplastic polyolefins in multiple reactors using high activity Ti/Al catalysts is provided. The improvement consists of developing a control parameter derived from eight integrated regions of the copolymer .sup.13 C NMR spectrum, defining the limits of the control parameter for the process, and operating the process to maintain the parameter within the defined limits. This is accomplished by adjusting the amount of ethylene fed to the secondary reactor and adjusting other process variables as required. Thermoplastic polyolefins, i.e., modified polypropylenes, having reduced hexane extractables and improved paint adhesion are also disclosed.

Process for controlling production of in-situ thermoplastic polyolefins

A new catalyst useful in the polymerization of at least one olefin is disclosed. The catalyst comprises the product obtained by contacting silica, in random order, with (1) at least one hydrocarbon soluble magnesium-containing compound; and (2) a first modifying compound selected from the group consisting of silicon halides, boron halides, aluminum halides and mixtures thereof followed by a second modifying compound selected from the group consisting of halides having the structural formula SiH.sub.r X.sup.2.sub.s, where X.sup.2 is halogen; r is an integer of 1 to 3; and s is an integer of 1 to 3 with the proviso that the sum of r and s is 4, a hydrogen halide and mixtures thereof. The product of this step is contacted with a first titanium-containing compound having the structural formula Ti(OR).sub.m X.sub.n, where R is hydrocarbyl or cresyl; X is halogen; m is an integer of 1 to 4; and n is 0 or an integer of 1 to 3, with the proviso that the sum of m and n is 4. Finally, the product of this latter step is, in turn, contacted with a second titanium-containing compound, different from the first titanium-containing compound, having the structural formula TiX.sup.1.sub.p (OR.sup.1).sub.q, where X.sup.1 is halogen; R.sup.1 is hydrocarbyl; p is an integer of 1 to 4; and q is 0 or an integer of 1 to 3, with the proviso that the sum of p and q is 4. A catalyst system comprising the above catalyst, an aluminum-containing first cocatalyst and at least one silane second cocatalyst is also set forth. Finally, a process for polymerizing at least one olefin utilizing the catalyst system of this disclosure is taught.

Process for polymerizing propylene using a silica-supported catalyst

A catalyst component useful in the polymerization of olefins is disclosed. The catalyst component comprises the product obtained by steps of (a) contacting silica with at least one hydrocarbon soluble magnesium-containing compound; (b) contacting the product of step (a) with component (1), a heterocyclic fused ring compound substituted with at least one oxygen atom, and component (2), a modifying compound selected from the group consisting of silicon halides, boron halides, aluminum halides, alkyl silicon halides and mixtures thereof, with the proviso that components (1) and (2) be present such that the molar ratio of component (2) to component (1) is at least about 4:1; and (c) contacting the product of step (b) with a titanium-containing compound having the structural formula TiX.sub.m (OR).sub.n, where X is halogen; R is hydrocarbyl; m is an integer of 1 to 4; and n is 0 or an integer of 1 to 3 with the proviso that the sum of m and n is 4. A catalyst system, used in the polymerization of alpha-olefins, which comprises the catalyst component of this disclosure, an aluminum-containing compound and a silane compound is also taught. Finally, a process for the polymerization of alpha-olefins, utilizing the catalyst system of the present disclosure, is described.

Supported polymerization catalyst

A novel catalyst support and a method for preparation thereof, characterized by the presence of selected amounts of a hydrocarbon soluble magnesium-containing compound applied to the support relative to solvent, wherein a surface uniformly and essentially continuously moistened with the solvated magnesium compound in a condition of incipient precipitation to permit the formation of a regular essentially continuous distribution of the magnesium compound onto and conforming to the support material. The drying process under these conditions is effective in maintaining to a high degree the effective surface area and pore volume of the material. The support containing the adsorbed magnesium is then dried in a controlled manner to essential incipient wetness conditions providing a regular spatial distribution of stacked reticular magnesium values at a level of one to five molecular monolayers on the support. A representative process for polymerizing or copolymerizing olefins providing stereospecific polymers such as propylene is disclosed.

A new catalyst component useful in the polymerization of at least one olefin is disclosed. The catalyst component comprises the product obtained by contacting silica, in random order, with (1) at least one hydrocarbon soluble magnesium-containing compound; and (2) a first modifying compound selected from the group consisting of silicon halides, boron halides, aluminum halides and mixtures thereof followed by a second modifying compound selected from the group consisting of halides having the structural formula SiH.sub.r X.sup.2.sub.s, where X.sup.2 is halogen; r is an integer of 1 to 3; and s is an integer of 1 to 3 with the proviso that the sum of r and s is 4, a hydrogen halide and mixtures thereof. The product of this step is contacted with a titanium-containing compound having the structural formula TiX.sup.1.sub.p (OR.sup.1).sub.q, where X.sup.1 is halogen; R.sup.1 is hydrocarbyl; p is an integer of 1 to 4; and q is 0 or an integer of 1 to 3, with the provisos that the sum of p and q is 4 and that a second titanium-containing compound having the structural formula Ti(OR).sub.m X.sub.n, where R is hydrocarbyl; X is halogen; m is an integer of 1 to 4; n is 0 or an integer of 1 to 3; and the sum of m and n is 4, is not utilized in the formation of said catalyst component. A catalyst system comprising the above catalyst component, an aluminum-containing first cocatalyst and at least one silane second cocatalyst is also set forth. Finally, a process for polymerizing at least one olefin utilizing the catalyst system of this disclosure is taught.

Olefin polymerization using silica supported catalyst

A novel catalyst support and a method for preparation thereof, characterized by the presence of selected amounts of a hydrocarbon soluble magnesium-containing compound applied to the support relative to solvent, wherein a surface uniformly and essentially continuously moistened with the solvated magnesium compound is achieved in a condition of incipient precipitation to permit the formation of a regular essentially continuous distribution of the magnesium compound onto and conforming to the support material The drying process under these conditions is effective in maintaining to a high degree the effective surface area and pore volume of the material.
