A system includes a processor configured to determine available vehicular connectivity options in response to a data transfer request. The processor is further configured to determine a preferred option from the available connectivity options based on previously stored connectivity policies, if multiple connectivity options exist which can be utilized to fulfill the request, and utilize the preferred option to fulfill the request.

Method and apparatus for distributed connectivity vehicle management

A system for accessing the Internet from an automotive vehicle having a multimedia device is provided. The system includes a mobile phone equipped with a wireless transceiver. The wireless transceiver has a data-only channel operable to transmit data between the mobile phone and the multimedia device. A first application is disposed within the mobile phone. The first application is operable to access an Internet website. A data processor is operable to transmit the Internet website to the multimedia device in data form through the data-only channel. A second application is disposed within the multimedia device and is operable to process the data received through the data-only channel so as to display the website onto the multimedia device.

System for providing Internet access to an automotive vehicle having a multimedia device

A multimedia assembly and an instrument panel assembly for use in an automotive vehicle are provided. The multimedia assembly includes a multimedia device and an auxiliary device. The multimedia device has a faceplate which is disposed on the outer surface of the instrument panel so as to be exposed to the cabin space of the vehicle. The auxiliary device is disposed beneath the multimedia device and hidden behind the outer surface of the instrument panel of the vehicle.

Examples of the present invention include a head unit for a vehicle entertainment system, including a housing, a radio, a first wireless transceiver, and a second wireless transceiver. The second wireless transceiver may be used to provide a dedicated communications link between the head unit and another electronic device, such as an auxiliary unit. The second wireless transceiver may have a serial port profile (SPP), and may be a Bluetooth transceiver.
