When a bomb that might be triggered by a ringing mobile terminal is suspected of being located within a target zone, the base stations whose coverage areas include a critical area that surrounds and encompasses that target zone are switched into a one-way calling mode that prevents the mobile terminals within that critical area from receiving incoming calls, but still allows users of those mobile terminals to place to place outgoing calls. The one-way calling mode is effected in response to a signal received by a base station from its associated MSC that instructs it to disable its paging function, thereby preventing the mobile terminal from receiving and responding to a signal that indicates that an incoming call is present, and thus prevents the base station from sending a signal to the mobile terminal that activates its ringing circuitry.

Method of preventing detonation of a mobile-terminal-triggered explosive device

A method and apparatus for restarting a GPS-based timing system without a GPS signal is provided. More specifically, there is provided a system comprising an antenna, a GPS receiver coupled to the antenna and configured to generate a GPS traceable timing signal based on a GPS transmission, and a timing system coupled to the GPS receiver, the timing system comprising a holdover oscillator, timing circuitry coupled to the holdover oscillator and configured to receive the GPS traceable timing signal and to calculate a correction factor for the holdover oscillator, and a non-volatile memory coupled to the timing circuitry, wherein the timing circuitry is configured to store the correction factor on the non-volatile memory.

Method and apparatus for restarting a GPS-based timing system without a GPS signal

An apparatus for detecting a damaged, disconnected or disabled RF load in an RF communications system wherein an RF source sends forward RF signals to the RF load. In general, the apparatus consists of an alarm circuit, and a device which passes RF signals reflected from the RF load to the alarm circuit. In one illustrative embodiment, the device is a circulator electrically connected to the RF source, the RF load and the alarm circuit such that, when there is an impedance mismatch between the RF source and the RF load, a portion of the forward RF signal reflects back through the circulator to the alarm circuit. The alarm circuit then checks whether the reflected portion of the forward RF signal (i.e. the reflected signal) meets a particular criterion indicating that a substantial impedance mismatch exists between the RF load and the RF source, thus indicating that the RF load is damaged disconnected or disabled. If the alarm circuit determines that the particular criterion indicating the RF load is damaged, disabled or disconnected, the alarm circuit triggers an alarm.

Circulator reverse power alarm

A repeater for extending the range of communications between a base station and a mobile unit without rendering the mobile unit incapable of communicating directly with the base station. In general, the polarization of the repeater input-antenna is different from the polarization of the repeater output-antenna such that sufficient isolation exists between the input and output antennas without substantially reducing the ability of the input antenna and the output antenna to receive signals from and output signals to the base station and the mobile units. In a preferred embodiment, the repeater input antenna is circularly polarized in one direction while the repeater output antenna is circularly polarized in a direction opposite from the input antenna.
