A drone detection apparatus and method for same, that provides a real time solution for detecting drones and informing and alerting a user. The apparatus includes a housing with a processor and memory, at least one indicator, at least one switch, a connector, a radio, an antenna and a power source; and a housing-carrier in which the housing is removably secured. When a drone transmits an identification broadcast message the processor has the ability to receive and recognize the identification broadcast message. The apparatus can receive a remote identification message intermittently broadcast from a drone and can send, forward and receive alerts to and from one or more remote devices.

An electrical device includes a first terminal structured to electrically connect to a power source; a second terminal structured to electrically connect to a load; a voltage sensor electrically connected to a point between the first and second terminals and being structured to sense a voltage at the point between the first and second terminals; a switch electrically connected between the first terminal and the second terminal; and a control unit structured to detect a power quality event in the power flowing between the first and second terminals based on the sensed voltage and to control a state of the switch based on the detected power quality event.

A method of determining a prospective short circuit current for an electrical system including a source includes connecting a test load between either: (i) a first phase line and a second phase line of the electrical system or (ii) the first phase line and the neutral line of the electrical system, employing a sensor coupled to the electrical system to measure a voltage drop across the test load, determining a voltage value based on at least the measured voltage drop across the test load, determining a total effective impedance for the first phase line to the source, and determining the prospective short circuit current based on the voltage value and the total effective impedance.

Method and apparatus for measuring prospective short circuit current

An electrical connector testing system can include a first connector end and a controller coupled to first connector end. The system can also include an electrical load coupled to the first connector end, where the electrical load includes an electrical cable and a second connector end coupled to an end of the electrical cable. The controller can determine whether an adverse electrical condition exists with respect to the electrical load before allowing power to flow between the first connector end and the second connector end.

Systems and methods for testing electrical connectors

A system and method for testing of electrical connections, conductors, and loads prior to energizing those connections is disclosed. For example, an interlocking socket can comprise a receptacle designed to be coupled to a connector of a load. The interlocking socket can comprise a microprocessor coupled to the receptacle, the microcontroller operable for testing one or more faults in the connector, a conductor, or the load coupled to the connector. In another example, a microprocessor can be coupled to a switch comprising a conductor, where the microprocessor is operable for testing one or more faults in the conductor or a load coupled to the conductor.

Testing and monitoring of an electrical connection

An arc fault circuit interrupter detector circuit including a super regenerative high frequency receiver is described herein. In one exemplary, non-limiting embodiment, a current measure component determines that a current noise signal within a circuit breaker is occurring at a particular frequency of interest. The super regenerative high frequency receiver receives the current noise signal and, via an oscillator circuit, causes the signal to ramp to a quench voltage, dissipate, and repeat. A microcontroller in communication with the super regenerative high frequency receiver measures a time period of the oscillator circuit's oscillations, and determines an amplitude of the current noise signal based, at least in part, on the time period. If it is determined that the amplitude of the input current signal at the frequency of interest corresponds to an arc fault event, a trip signal is generated to trip the circuit, quenching the arc fault event.

A distribution manager for a power microgrid system includes a main bus, and a circuit breaker coupled to the main bus and to one of a load and an inter-microgrid connection system of the power microgrid system, the circuit breaker being structured to operate based on a set of functional trip settings. The distribution manager is structured and configured to: (i) determine an available source overcurrent that will be fed through the circuit breaker, (ii) determine a number of trip parameter settings based on at least the available source overcurrent, and (iii) set the functional trip settings of the circuit breaker based on the determined number of trip parameter settings.

An electrical system includes (1) a distributed power source device structured to generate: (i) AC power, and (ii) a signal indicating an amount of current being produced by the distributed power source device, and (2) a circuit breaker having set trip characteristics coupled to distributed power source device, wherein the circuit breaker is structured to receive the signal and adjust the set trip characteristics (e.g., the trip curve) based on at least the signal from the distributed power source device.

A distribution manager includes a main bus, a first connection coupled to the main bus through a first circuit breaker and being structured to couple the distribution manager to an inter-microgrid connection system, a second connection coupled to the main bus through a second circuit breaker and being structured to couple the distribution manager to the inter-microgrid connection system, and a third circuit breaker coupled to the main bus and being structured to be coupled to a load. The distribution manager is configured to detect an overload condition and in response thereto (i) request to bring an offline distributed source online, (ii) if an offline distributed source cannot be brought online, request to shed the load, and (iii) if the load cannot be shed, cause the second circuit breaker to downwardly adjust the trip curve thereof.

Microgrid system structured to detect overload conditions and take corrective actions relating thereto

A method of protecting a power distribution system from a fault on a feed conductor thereof, wherein an HFAC signal is provided to the feed conductor from a location downstream of the feed conductor in the power distribution system. The method includes, in a module located upstream of the feed conductor in the power distribution system, determining an HFAC signal magnitude in the module, the module including a circuit interrupter, and controlling operation of the circuit interrupter based on the determined magnitude.

Fault detection and zone location system

A control module for controlling a thermostatically controlled device includes a processor apparatus adapted to obtain first values for a plurality of parameters for the thermostatically controlled device, the parameters including actual power consumed by the thermostatically controlled device and a number of input parameters, determine a learned correlation function for the thermostatically controlled device based on the obtained values, wherein the learned correlation function relates power consumption of the thermostatically controlled device to at least the number of input parameters, obtain second values for each of the number of input parameters for a future usage period, and determine at least one recommended set point for the thermostatically controlled device using the learned correlation function and at least the second values for each of the number of input parameters.
