The present disclosure is directed to a dryer system for drying compressed gas discharged from a compressor. The dryer system includes a refrigeration drying system operable for removing moisture from the compressed gas and a desiccant drying system with a desiccant wheel located in series downstream of the refrigeration drying system operable for removing additional moisture from the compressed gas.

Hybrid low dew point compressed air dryer

A heat exchanger includes a heat exchanger shell and a heat exchanger core defined by plurality of core elements releasably connected together when positioned within the heat exchanger shell. Each core element is defined by first and second opposing plates permanently fixed together with a fluid flow path formed therebetween. A coolant flow path is formed between adjacent core elements. A fluid seal positioned between adjacent core elements is configured to form a fluid tight seal between the fluid flow path and the coolant flow path.

Gasketed plate and shell heat exchanger

An air compressor system is disclosed that includes a housing sized to enclose an air compressor pump as well as a dryer structured to remove moisture from air that is compressed by the compressor pump. The air compressor pump may be intermittently placed into operation, but the dryer itself is structured in one form to continuously maintain a heat exchanger in a desired temperature range in anticipation of operation of the air compressor pump. The heat exchanger of the dryer can include sufficient thermal mass such that a refrigerant pump of the dryer need not be operated continuously in anticipation of operation of the air compressor pump. While a cooling air flow can be created by operation of the air compressor pump, when the air compressor pump is not operated a cooling fan can be used provide cooling to the heat generating components of the dryer.

Air compressor

A heat exchanger () includes a plurality of heat exchange layers () stacked in a stackwise direction. Each of the layers includes a first plate () and a second plate (), each of the first plate and the second plate includes a portion of a first enclosed header (), a second enclosed header () and at least one flow channel () that extends between the first enclosed header and the second enclosed header. The first plate and the second plate are fixedly attached to one another to completely define the first enclosed header, the second enclosed header, and the at least one flow channel. An inlet header () is in fluid communication with the first enclosed header of each of the plurality of heat exchange layers () to direct a flow of fluid to the heat exchange layers. An outlet header is in fluid communication with the second enclosed header of each of the plurality of heat exchange layers to direct the flow of fluid from the heat exchange layers. The heat exchanger also includes a plurality of fins () with each positioned between adjacent heat exchange layers.

Formed microchannel heat exchanger with multiple layers

An impact moisture separator for separating a liquid moisture from a compressed gas. The impact moisture separator includes a plurality of impact plates that are positioned within the inner region of the separator and may be downstream of at least one strut. The strut may be configured to disperse the flow of compressed gas. The impact plates each have a plurality of vanes that extend beyond a plate portion of the impact plates. The vanes are configured to provide a passage for the flow of compressed gases and are offset from the vanes of the adjacent, successive impact plate. Further, the impact plates and strut(s) are tilted toward the incoming flow of compressed gas so as to assist in influencing the downward flow of the compressed gas, and thereby facilitate the flow of separated liquid moisture toward a reservoir of the housing.

Impact moisture separator

A dryer operable to separate a portion of an entrained liquid from a flow of gas includes a pressure vessel to contain the flow of gas and entrained liquid within the pressure vessel. A precooler/reheater is positioned within the pressure vessel to cool the flow of gas and the entrained liquid and an evaporator is positioned within the pressure vessel to cool the flow of gas and the entrained liquid from the precooler/reheater. A separator receives the flow of gas and the entrained liquid from the evaporator and is operable to separate the flow of gas and the entrained liquid into a flow of substantially dry gas and a liquid. The liquid collects in the bottom of the pressure vessel. A drain valve is movable between an open position and a closed position in response to the quantity of liquid within the bottom of the pressure vessel.

Air dryer assembly

A gas compressing system includes a compressor that provides a flow of compressed gas, a first desiccant tower, and a second desiccant tower separate from the first tower. The system also includes a first separator, a second separator separate from the first separator, an outlet, a first set and second set of no more than three valves each movable between an open position and a closed position. The flow flows along a flow path from the compressor to the first tower, to the first separator, to the second tower and out the outlet when the first set of valves is open and the second set of valves is closed. The flow of compressed gas flows from the compressor to the second tower, to the second separator, to the first tower and out the outlet when the first set of valves is closed and the second set of valves is opened.

A refrigerated air dryer includes a three-path heat exchangerhaving an air path, a refrigerant path, and a fluid path. The three flow paths exchange heat within a single unit to provide a compact heat exchanger with improved thermal performance at a lower production cost.

Heat exchanger for a refrigerated air dryer

Heat exchangers including elongated hollow housings having inlet and outlet ports for circulating first and second fluid media through the housings and whereby each housing includes a heat exchanging core that is formed of a single, folded corrugated sheet. The sheet is formed with a series of parallel peaks and valleys running angularly to the direction of the sheet so that when the sheet is folded there are defined a plurality of channels by reason of the crisscross pattern of peaks and valleys crossing one another at right angles in the tightly folded configuration of the core. The folded configuration provides discrete respective channels for conveying the first and second fluid media. In the preferred embodiment of the heat exchangers, every fold of the corrugated sheet is in contact with the housing interior and thereby form alternating isolated channels without the need to use any top, bottom or side seals around the core. Thus, differential internal pressures in these channels are transmitted to the housing via the adjacent channel peaks which engage and then are transmitted to the housing via the folds of the sheet which are in contact with the housing.

Corrugated folded plate heat exchanger

An apparatus and method are described for thoroughly sealing off the extreme ends of a corrugated folded plate (core) heat exchanger. Instead of using end caps to seal off the two ends of the heat exchanger, the ends are first compressed or &ldquo;crushed&rdquo; into a vertical seam, thereby maximizing the density of the core. The crushed ends are then pinched and/or trimmed and the seam is then welded closed. Another variation is to spin the ends of the heat exchanger so that the ends taper to a very small opening while also maximizing the density of the core. The small opening is then welded shut.
