An electrosurgical device comprises a body, an end effector, a cutting member, and a shaft. The end effector includes a pair of jaws that are operable to deliver RF energy to tissue that is clamped between the jaws. The cutting member is operable to sever tissue that is clamped between the jaws. The shaft extends between the body and the end effector. The shaft includes an articulation section that is operable to selectively position the end effector at non-parallel positions relative to the longitudinal axis of the shaft. Some versions include a rotation section that is distal to the articulation section. The rotation section is operable to rotate the end effector relative to the articulation section.

Surgical systems are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a surgical system includes a first scope device having a first portion within an extraluminal space and a second portion positioned within an intraluminal space. The first scope device transmits image data of a first scene. A second scope device is disposed within the extraluminal space and transmits image data of a second scene. The first portion of the first instrument is present within the field of view of the second scope device to track the first scope device relative to the second scope device. A controller receives the transmitted image data of the first and second scenes, to determine a relative distance from the first scope device to the second scope device within the extraluminal space, and to provide a merged image. At least one of the first and second scope device in the merged image is a representative depiction thereof.

An ultrasonic surgical instrument includes an end effector having an ultrasonic blade, an ultrasonic transducer assembly, and a shaft assembly. The shaft assembly includes a tube, and an waveguide. The proximal structure has a greater maximum dimension in a direction transverse to the primary axis than the distal structure. A surgical tool includes a handle having opposing first and second ends, a lead screw and a spline are rotatably coupled to and extend between the opposing ends. The spline is arranged a distance from the lead screw such that the lead screw assumes torsional loading generated by the spline. Another surgical tool includes first and second splines with a first activating mechanism coupled to the first spline and a second activating mechanism coupled to the second spline. Torsional loading generated by the first and second splines to operate the first and second activating mechanisms are balanced by rotating the first and second splines in opposite directions. A method of minimizing torsional loads on components of a robotic surgical tool includes actuating the surgical tool and assuming a torsional force acting on a carriage of the surgical tool with a load balancing member included in the surgical tool.

An imaging instrument is operable to provide an image of an exterior of the uterus of the patient. The console is further configured to provide an indicator on the view from the imaging instrument, on the display screen, the indicator indicating a location of a predefined anatomical structure, the indicator being provided as an overlay on the predefined anatomical structure.

A method of applying a buttress to a surgical stapler end effector comprises positioning a buttress assembly between an anvil and a staple cartridge of the end effector. The buttress assembly comprises a buttress body and an adhesive material. The adhesive material faces either an underside of the anvil or a deck of the staple cartridge. The anvil is in an open position relative to the staple cartridge during the act of positioning the buttress assembly between the anvil and the staple cartridge. The method further comprises moving the anvil toward the staple cartridge then moving the anvil back to the open position. The buttress assembly is adhered to the underside of the anvil or the deck of the staple cartridge via the adhesive material with the anvil moved back to the open position. The adhesive material comprises a bioabsorbable polymer.

Method of applying a buttress to a surgical stapler

A buttress is applied to an end effector of a surgical stapler. The buttress is loaded on a platform of a buttress applier cartridge. The end effector is closed upon the platform. An adhesive layer of the buttress secures the buttress to the end effector. The buttress is thus adhered to the end effector when the end effector is opened. The end effector is then actuated on tissue of a patient, thereby stapling the buttress to the tissue.
