A surgical tool includes a handle having opposing first and second ends, a lead screw and a spline are rotatably coupled to and extend between the opposing ends. The spline is arranged a distance from the lead screw such that the lead screw assumes torsional loading generated by the spline. Another surgical tool includes first and second splines with a first activating mechanism coupled to the first spline and a second activating mechanism coupled to the second spline. Torsional loading generated by the first and second splines to operate the first and second activating mechanisms are balanced by rotating the first and second splines in opposite directions. A method of minimizing torsional loads on components of a robotic surgical tool includes actuating the surgical tool and assuming a torsional force acting on a carriage of the surgical tool with a load balancing member included in the surgical tool.

Systems, devices, and methods for controlling cooperative surgical instruments are provided. Various aspects of the present disclosure provide for coordinated operation of surgical instruments accessing a common body cavity of a patient from different approaches to achieve a common surgical purpose. For example, various methods, devices, and systems disclosed herein can enable the coordinated treatment of surgical tissue by disparate minimally invasive surgical systems that approach the tissue from varying anatomical spaces and operate in concert with one another to effect a desired surgical treatment.

An imaging instrument is operable to provide an image of an exterior of the uterus of the patient. The console is further configured to provide an indicator on the view from the imaging instrument, on the display screen, the indicator indicating a location of a predefined anatomical structure, the indicator being provided as an overlay on the predefined anatomical structure.

A staple cartridge assembly for use with a surgical stapling instrument includes a staple cartridge including a plurality of staples and a cartridge deck. The staple cartridge assembly also includes a compressible adjunct positionable against the cartridge deck, wherein the staples are deployable into tissue captured against the compressible adjunct, and wherein the compressible adjunct comprises a first biocompatible layer comprising a first portion, a second biocompatible layer comprising a second portion, and crossed spacer fibers extending between the first portion and the second portion.

A method of applying a buttress to a surgical stapler end effector comprises positioning a buttress assembly between an anvil and a staple cartridge of the end effector. The buttress assembly comprises a buttress body and an adhesive material. The adhesive material faces either an underside of the anvil or a deck of the staple cartridge. The anvil is in an open position relative to the staple cartridge during the act of positioning the buttress assembly between the anvil and the staple cartridge. The method further comprises moving the anvil toward the staple cartridge then moving the anvil back to the open position. The buttress assembly is adhered to the underside of the anvil or the deck of the staple cartridge via the adhesive material with the anvil moved back to the open position. The adhesive material comprises a bioabsorbable polymer.

A buttress is applied to an end effector of a surgical stapler. The buttress is loaded on a platform of a buttress applier cartridge. The end effector is closed upon the platform. An adhesive layer of the buttress secures the buttress to the end effector. The buttress is thus adhered to the end effector when the end effector is opened. The end effector is then actuated on tissue of a patient, thereby stapling the buttress to the tissue.

Generally, a system for use in a robotic surgical system may be used to determine an attachment state between a tool driver, sterile adapter, and surgical tool of the system. The system may include sensors used to generate attachment data corresponding to the attachment state. The attachment state may be used to control operation of the tool driver and surgical tool. In some variations, one or more of the attachment states may be visually output to an operator using one or more of the tool driver, sterile adapter, and surgical tool. The clamp may include a locating structure with one or more tapered surfaces that is configured to mate with a corresponding structure disposed on a portion of a cannula when the cannula is positioned in the cannula attachment device. The locating structure may guide the cannula into the attachment device, as well as assist with orientating the cannula relative to the attachment device.

A computing device may be configured to obtain first data associated with a first simulated surgical procedure and second data associated with a second simulated surgical procedure. The first data and the second data may be associated with a surgical task of the surgical procedure. A robotic surgical tool includes a handle providing a drive input, an elongate shaft extendable through the handle and having an end effector arranged at a distal end of the shaft, and an accumulator system housed within the handle and operatively coupled to the drive input such that actuation of the drive input operates the accumulator system. At least one drive cable is threaded through the accumulator system and extends distally along the shaft, wherein operation of the accumulator system acts on the at least one drive cable to operate the end effector.

The end effector is further configured to transition between an open position and a closed position. The end effector is configured to grasp tissue in the closed position. The trigger is configured to pivot in a first direction relative to the body to actuate the end effector from the open position to the closed position. The activation element is configured to activate the end effector at either the first energy level or the second energy level. The trigger is configured to either activate the activation element or determine whether the end effector operates at the first energy level or the second energy level.

An ultrasonic surgical instrument includes an end effector including an ultrasonic blade, an ultrasonic waveguide, an ultrasonic transducer assembly, and a carrier. The acoustic waveguide includes at least a proximal portion thereof extending along a longitudinal axis. The ultrasonic transducer assembly includes a fixation member and is operatively connected to the acoustic waveguide such that the acoustic waveguide is in acoustic communication with an ultrasonic transducer. The carrier has at least a portion thereof engaged with the fixation member of the ultrasonic transducer assembly thereby inhibiting movement of the ultrasonic transducer assembly relative to the carrier. The carrier movably supports the ultrasonic transducer assembly along the longitudinal axis such that the ultrasonic transducer assembly is configured to move from a proximal position on the longitudinal axis to a distal position on the longitudinal axis for inserting the ultrasonic blade into a patient.
