The present invention is a method and apparatus for modifying line synchronization signals that drive at least one secondary image exposure device in a multicolor printing or reprographic system. The ability to alter the line synchronization signals enables the accurate registration of a multiple color images on a photoconductor in response to detected photoreceptor motion. More specifically, the first color image is deposited on the photoreceptor using a servomotor control system to control photoreceptor velocity as a function of the desired raster line spacing, or the frequency at which the individual raster lines are deposited. All subsequently added colors in the single-pass printing system are added under the control of phase-locked loops, wherein the line synchronization pulses are produced as a function of the photoreceptor speed, to correct for variations from the nominal photoreceptor velocity.

An interlock/latch system for a machine cover, particularly for an electrophotographic printing machine. A cover latch is provided with a latching mechanism and a set of electrical contacts which are mechanically closed when the cover is closed and the latch engaged. A sensor such as a Hall-Effect sensor is mounted in close proximity to the latch. A magnet in the cover actuates the Hall-Effect sensor when the cover is closed and latched sending a signal to the machine controller. The machine controller prohibits operation of the machine until the signal is received.

Image fix level and Input Output Terminal (IOT) faults are minimized. The foregoing are effected by reducing fuser roll temperature sag or droop which can be a problem during the initial portion of a copy run. A heated fuser member is operated at a higher power level during the initial portion of a print cycle. This is effected using an existing controller without modifying the controller's hardware. The foregoing is accomplished by detecting voltages values applied to the fuser member, storing these values corresponding to fuser operating parameters in a LUT, detecting elapsed time from the start of a print cycle, using the operating parameters corresponding to the detected voltage during a portion of the print cycle, and determining the difference between a detected voltage and a predetermined voltage value and using the fusing operating parameter corresponding to this difference during the initial portion of the print cycle in accordance with elapsed time.

A combination electro-optic sensor and switch including a printed wiring board supporting an electro-optic sensor enclosed in a sealed housing, a sleeve mounted on a shaft for rotation within the housing in the light path the electro-optic sensor with a portion of the shaft extending through the sealed housing and connected to a wire actuator, the engagement of the wire actuator by a copy sheet providing an approximately 20 millisecond response time of the sensor.
