The template being positioned generally in alignment with the opening. The light directing mechanism having a light radiating structure positioned to illuminate the template. The template being moveably coupled to the temperature sensing mechanism. The light directing mechanism being coupled to the housing. A process for monitoring the temperature of a cooking vessel including a temperature indicating apparatus for a cooking vessel, the apparatus having a housing having at least one opening, a template or translucent panel or both, a light directing mechanism, and a temperature sensing mechanism is also described.

An apparatus and method for testing the mechanical durability of a test surface finish of an object, such as a cooking vessel. The apparatus consists principally of a sliding support fixture operated by a gearmotor with an eccentric drive providing alternative forward and rearward movement to the fixture, scrapers for contacting the surface finish in a predetermined path, and individually operated coil springs for applying constant pressure to the scrapers during the test scraping cycle. A cam and lever combination is also supplied to raise the scrapers above the surface finish as they are returned to initial start position during cyclical test operation.

The apparatus comprised of a web of material having an abrasive surface, a rotary moving mechanism for rotatably moving the web of material around a predetermined point of the web of material, and a connecting mechanism for connecting the predetermined point of the web of material to the rotary moving mechanism. The apparatus including a cyclic moving mechanism for moving either the abrasive surface of the web of material in a cyclic pattern over and against the surface finish of the cooking vessel for a predetermined period of time or for moving the cooking vessel so that the surface finish of the cooking vessel moves in a cyclic pattern against the abrasive surface of the web of material for a predetermined period of time. The method is generally performed as follows: Adjusting the rotary moving mechanism so that it applies a predetermined pressure or force to the surface finish and so that it rotatably moves the web of material in at least one predetermined direction at a predetermined rate of speed; the direction could be one way or reversible. Bringing the abrasive surface of the material into contact with the surface finish of the cooking vessel. Actuating the rotary moving mechanism so that the abrasive surface is moved at a predetermined speed for a predetermined time while the cyclic moving mechanism moves the cooking vessel in a predetermined pattern for the predetermined time. Measuring the final thickness of the surface finish of the cooking vessel at the predetermined area of the surface finish and determining the difference between the thickness determined in step one and the final thickness of the surface finish.

A method for cutting food using a motorized tool for slicing food described herein. The method comprising actuating the motor, applying the cutting edge to the food, applying sufficient pressure to begin to cut the food, and moving the cutting edge across the food so that the food is cut. Alternatively, when using the meat tenderizer disclosed herein the method may be simply described as comprising the steps of actuating the motor, applying the tenderizing surface to the meat, and moving the tenderizing surface whereby the meat is tenderized.

A coffee maker contains a flexible tube connecting rigid tubes. A coil spring serves to stiffen and support the flexible conduit and to clamp the end of the same conduit to a more rigid tube. There are closely wound clamping turns at the end of the coil spring which perform the clamping function while the rest of the coil spring stiffens and supports the flexible conduit.

The hot water pump of a coffee maker includes a water heating chamber and heating means therefor, a vertical hot water lift tube which extends upwardly from the water heating chamber, a pair of check valve discs on the bottom portion of the vertical lift tube which cover the top of the water heating chamber, a horizontal hot water transfer conduit coupled to the top of the vertical lift tube and extending transversely over the coffee pot stand with an outlet for discharging the hot water into a coffee basket on top of a coffee pot, means for removably connecting the water transfer conduit to the coffee maker housing at a point intermediate the ends of the water transfer conduit, and spring means surrounding the vertical lift tube and bearing at the bottom end on the uppermost check valve disc or on a ridge on the tube and bearing at the top end on the end of the transfer conduit which is coupled to the vertical lift tube, thereby removably locking the water pump structure in a predetermined position within the coffee maker housing and sealing the check valve.
