In an embodiment, a method includes determining a target frequency corresponding to a target brain state and stimulating a brain of a user using feedback to attempt to achieve the target brain state in the user. The stimulating step may include measuring an electrical output of the brain of the user received from one or more sensors coupled to the user, determining a current frequency associated with the brain of the user based on the measured electrical output, and determining a difference between the current frequency and the target frequency. When the difference between the current frequency and the target frequency is greater than a predetermined amount, the method includes sending a signal to the brain of the user through one or more pathways. The signal may have a frequency operable to modify the current frequency associated with the brain of the user towards the target frequency.

Cognitive enhancement using feedback

A device for monitoring gases present in a breathing mask. A gas sensing element carried by the breathing mask senses the partial pressure of a gas present in the breathing mask and outputs signals corresponding to the sensed gas partial pressure. The gas sensing element may comprise a gas-sensing material configured to emit, in response to light excitation, an optical signal at an intensity corresponding to the partial pressure of a sensed gas.

Systems and methods for generating a coherent matterwave beam are provided. In some aspects, a system includes a plurality of beam generating units. Each of the plurality of beam generating units is configured to generate a stream of charged particles. The system also includes a magnetic field generator configured to expose the plurality of streams to a magnetic field such that (i) the charged particles of the plurality of streams undergo phase synchronization with one another in response to a vector potential associated with the magnetic field and (ii) the plurality of streams is directed along one or more channels to combine with one another and produce a coherent matterwave beam.

Systems and methods for generating coherent matterwave beams

A power-generating device is disclosed that includes a pyroelectric material having first and second surfaces on opposite sides of the pyroelectric material. The device also includes a first conductive electrode coupled to a first support element that is configured to intermittently bring the first electrode into proximity with the first surface and a second conductive electrode proximate to the second surface at least while the first electrode is proximate to the first surface. The device also includes a power module that is electrically coupled between the first and second electrodes. The power module is configured to capture power from an electrical current flowing between the first and second electrodes.

Pyroelectric power from turbulent airflow

An Aharonov-Bohm (AB) sensor is provided. The AB sensor includes a beam splitter configured to split a first electron beam into a first wave and a second wave. The beam splitter is configured to direct the first wave along a first path through a field-free cage. A phase of the first wave is configured to shift in response to a vector potential of a signal. The vector potential is present within the field-free cage. The AB sensor includes a beam combiner configured to combine the phase shifted first wave with the second wave to generate a second electron beam, which is modulated based on the phase shift of the first wave. The AB sensor includes a detector configured to receive the second electron beam and to detect the signal based on the modulation of the second electron beam.

Aharonov-bohm sensor

A plasma jet system includes a housing with a single opening. A plasma generator is coupled to ionize a fluid in the housing. An electromagnetic accelerator is coupled to generate an electric field that accelerates ionized fluid in the housing toward the opening. A controller can modulate the frequency of the electric field to cause the ionized fluid to form a plasma vortex flow through the opening. A magnetic field is applied normal to the direction of the plasma vortex flow to mitigate the momentum of the electrons. The electrons slowed by the magnetic field can be collected and conducted to a location where they are re-inserted into the plasma vortex flow to maintain charge neutrality.

Systems and methods for plasma jets

A method to manipulate a fluid flow over a surface is provided. This method may be used to reduce drag, improve the lift to drag (L/D) ratio, attach fluid flow, or reduce flow noise at the surface. This involves flowing a fluid over the surface wherein the fluid contains positively charged ions and electrons. An electric field accelerates ions and electrons in directions parallel to the electric field. A magnetic field at the surface redirects ions and electrons based on their velocity and charge. The magnetic field imparts little force on the relatively heavy and slow moving positive ions but has a significant impact on the relatively fast moving, light weight electrons. This results in a non-zero net change in the total momentum of the positive ions and electrons allowing thrust to be realized. This thrust may be sufficient for vehicle propulsion or manipulation of the fluid flow around the vehicle. Pulsed and traveling wave implementations of this body force enable exploitation of frequencies to which the flow is sensitive, improving effectiveness of this method.
