A thermally conductive bracket is contemplated for use in a vehicle to facilitate transfer heat from a busbar to a cold plate, such as to assist with heat transfer to a cold plate used to act as a heat sink for a plurality of battery cells connected to the busbar. The bracket may include a thermally conductive heat transfer material shaped to receive the busbar where at least a portion of the material is configured to include opposed sides and a bottom such that the opposed sides are configured to transfer heat from the busbar to the bottom and the bottom is configured to transfer heat from the sides to the cold plate.

An electrical system includes a battery disconnect unit (BDU) connected to a rechargeable energy storage system (RESS) via a high-voltage bus. The BDU has one or more contactors that close responsive a low-voltage drive current to thereby connect the RESS to the high-voltage bus. A low-voltage drive circuit conducts the drive current to the contactor(s). Opening of a low-voltage connection interrupts the drive current and causes the contactor(s) to transition from the closed state to an open state. The contactor(s) open in response to interruption of the drive current to thereby disconnect the RESS. The contactor(s) may be closed again after a lockout safety procedure, such that reestablishing the electrical connection does not itself re-energize the high-voltage bus. An electrified powertrain includes a transmission, electric machine, power inverter module, and the above-noted electrical system.

A battery for an electric vehicle includes first and second pairs of modules in electrical communication with each other. The first pair of modules includes a first module and a second module. The second module is in electrical and thermal communication with the first module via a first plurality of outer bus bars. The second pair of modules includes a third module and a fourth module. The fourth module is in electrical and thermal communication with the third module via a second plurality of outer bus bars. The first and second pairs of modules are coupled to each other via a first inner connecting bus bar and a second inner connecting bus bar proximate to a center region of each of the second and third modules.

Battery for an electric vehicle

According to aspects of the present disclosure, a lightweight busbar includes an aluminum body, a copper connector, and a cladded interface. The aluminum body defines a first end and a second end opposite the first end. The copper connector is disposed proximate the first end of the aluminum body. The copper connector is configured to be fastened to an external component. The cladded interface bonds the copper connector to the first end of the aluminum body. The cladded interface inhibits yield between aluminum and copper during thermal cycling.

Methods and systems for estimating the core temperature of at least one cell in a battery at the termination of a rest period. The method for estimating the core temperature of the cells in a battery includes measuring the surface temperature of the cells, obtaining the estimated core temperature of the cells, obtaining the time required for the surface temperature and the estimated core temperature of the cells to converge, and estimating the core temperature of the cells based on the measured surface temperatures, the obtained estimated core temperature, and the obtained time. The system for estimating the core temperature of the cells in a battery includes at least one sensor configured to receive temperature information and a control system in signal communication with the sensor, wherein the control system comprises a memory device and a controller.

Real-time estimation of cell core temperature during period of rest

Methods and systems for dynamically estimating the core temperature of at least one cell in a battery during an operative period. The method includes receiving by at least one controller the surface temperature, the current, the voltage, the state of charge, and the period of time from the initiation of a rest period to the termination of the rest period, determining an initial value of the lumped internal resistance of the at least one cell, determining subsequent values of the lumped internal resistance recursively in real-time based on the initial value, the current, and the voltage, and determining the core temperature of the at least one cell based on the surface temperature, the current, the obtained time, and the lumped internal resistance. The system for dynamically estimating the core temperature of the cells in a battery includes a plurality of sensors configured to transmit signals related to surface temperature, current, and voltage of the battery, a timing device configured to transmit signals related to the period of time from the initiation of a rest period to the termination of the rest period, and a control system, wherein the control system comprises a memory device and a controller.
