Described here are meters and methods for sampling, transporting, and/or analyzing a fluid sample. The meters may include a meter housing and a cartridge. In some instances, the meter may include a tower which may engage one or more portions of a cartridge. The meter housing may include an imaging system, which may or may not be included in the tower. The cartridge may include one or more sampling arrangements, which may be configured to collect a fluid sample from a sampling site. A sampling arrangement may include a skin-penetration member, a hub, and a quantification member.

Devices and methods for body fluid sampling and analysis

A method for performing an assay to determine the presence or concentration of an analyte contained in a sample of body fluid by using a device comprising at least one analyte quantification member and a sensor associated therewith, the method includes: applying a first sample to the analyte quantification member; and detecting the presence or absence of an adequate sample volume; wherein upon detection of the absence of an adequate sample volume, initiating a finite timed period, and signaling the user to introduce a second sample of body fluid to the analyte quantification member. Associated arrangements and devices are also disclosed.

Detection meter and mode of operation

A method for actively aligning the components of an optoelectronic device. The optoelectronic device includes a first portion containing a laser and a second portion containing an optical element. In one embodiment, the optoelectronic device is a laser package having a header structure containing a laser and a header can containing a lens. The method includes transmitting an optical signal from the laser through the optical element and comparing the position of the optical signal relative to a reference in order to determine whether the optical coupling of the laser with the optical element is within a desired tolerance range.

Method for actively aligning an optoelectronic device

A system for actively aligning an optoelectronic device including a frame, a mounting and alignment assembly, and a camera. The mounting and alignment assembly can be movably connected to the frame and is configured to mount separate portions of an optoelectronic device such that the portions can be moved in relation to each other. An optical signal from a laser in the first portion is transmitted through an optical element in the second portion and captured by the camera to determine the positioning of the first and second portions of the optoelectronic device. The portions can then be aligned accordingly.

Fabrication and alignment device

Embodiments of the invention generally provide an in situ method for assembling and measuring optical characteristics of an optical component. The method generally includes pressing an optical source or lens into an optical housing while simultaneously measuring the optical output of the device. The measured optical output is used to determine and control when the optical source or lens is pressed to an optical position within optical housing. Once the source or lens is pressed into the optical housing, the method includes measuring the optical offset and/or pointing angle of the assembled component in the same apparatus that assembled the component. The measured optical offset and/or pointing angle information is used to determine how to mechanically alter the optical housing to correct or compensate for the optical offset and pointing angle.

Method for in situ measurement of the optical offset of an optical component

Embodiments of the invention generally provide an apparatus for pressing an optical component into an optical housing. The apparatus generally includes a fixture configured to support the optical housing, a press tool configured to press the optical component into the optical housing, and a controller in electrical communication with the press tool, the controller being configured to control the press operation. The apparatus may further include a camera positioned in an optical path of the optical housing, the camera being configured to receive an optical output of the optical component and transmit data representative of the output to the controller for use in controlling the press operation. The controller is generally configured to use the optical measurements taken by the camera to control the pressing operation such that the optical source or lens is pressed to an optimal longitudinal position within the optical housing.

Optical component assembly system

Embodiments provide for an optical component mounting apparatus and method. One embodiment provides a body defining a lens applicator tip at one end, wherein the lens applicator tip defines a lens contact surface. A lens retaining member includes a lens carrying tip defining a lens receiving opening and is slidably disposed over at least the lens applicator tip. The lens carrying tip is slidably positionable between a lens carrying position in which the lens carrying tip extends past the lens applicator tip, and a lens release position in which the lens carrying tip is retracted with respect to the lens applicator tip.

Embodiments of the invention provide for an improved optical component mounting apparatus and method. In one embodiment, the invention provides an optical component mounting apparatus that provides for accurate mounting of an optical component without the use of epoxy or other affixing agents. The optical component mounting apparatus includes a body having a bore formed longitudinally therethrough between a first and second end. The body also includes an inner sidewall of the body disposed adjacent the first end that defines a first component holding region. The first component holding region is in an offset alignment with the bore, the inner wall is adapted to frictionally accept a first component therein and exert a biasing force thereon to maintain the first component in a desired optical alignment. In another embodiment, the body includes an outer sidewall disposed between the first and second ends, wherein the inner and outer sidewalls define a second component holding region therebetween. The inner and outer sidewalls are adapted to frictionally accept a second component therein and exert a biasing force thereon to maintain the second component in a desired alignment relative the bore.

Optical isolator mounting apparatus

Embodiments of the invention provide an improved optical component mounting apparatus. In one embodiment, the invention provides an optical component mounting apparatus that provides for accurate mounting of an optical component without the use of epoxy or other affixing agents. The optical component mounting apparatus includes a body having a bore formed longitudinally therethrough. A first end of the body includes an annular aperture configured to receive an optical component therein. The diameter of the aperture is generally less than the diameter of the optical component to be inserted therein, and therefore, the aperture expands to receive the optical component. Once the aperture is expanded and the optical component inserted, the aperture is allowed to contract, which operates to mechanically secure the optical component within the apparatus.
