An optical viewer is disclosed which incorporates plastic lenses which reduce the weight and cost of the optical viewer. In accordance with an important aspect of the invention, the optical design of the viewer is configured to compensate for the inferior optical characteristics of the plastic lenses to provide an optical viewer with comparable performance relative to optical viewers with glass lenses.

Plastic optical viewer

A small, lightweight, high intensity illumination assembly for use in dental and medical applications. The illumination assembly includes attachment means for removable attachment to headgear such as eyeglasses, face shields, or headbands, and lenses, loupes, and binoculars associated with such headgear. The illumination assembly is able to achieve extremely light weight by using only a single optical element therein, e.g., an aspheric condensing lens, binary optical element, or holographic optical means, and by piping illumination to the optical element from a remote light source by use of a flexible light guide, e.g., a fiberoptic bundle.

Illumination assembly for dental and medical applications

A sliding bridge eyeglass frame provides salespersons and customers the ability to insure that a proper interpupillary distance between telescope oculars is achieved during a fitting session. The demonstration frame device of the present invention includes first and second bridge portions which are slidably and reversibly fixedly attached to thus allow a customized fitting for particular customers. Once proper interpupillary distances are achieved, the first and second frame members are secured together such that proper dimensions and configurations can be obtained for production of a final product.

Sliding bridge eyeglass frame

A housing for a magnification loupe is provided having a body portion for an eyepiece lens and a nose portion for an objective lens. The body portion for the eyepiece lens includes outer circumferential threads over which the objective nose portion fits. The objective nose portion includes a pin slot defining an arc across the body of the nose. The arc is configured such that a pin may be secured through the holes in the nose piece to co-act with the threads of the eyepiece body such that radial movement is prohibited.

Magnification viewer

A magnification viewer includes magnification loupes, which may be attached to the bridge of a pair of spectacles by a hinge/bridge mount. A main hinge tab is pivotally connected to mount, whereby the magnification loupes may be raised and lowered from the field of vision in front of the spectacles as desired. A hinge tab saddle slidably mounted to the main hinge tab permits adjustment of the loupes along the longitudinal length of the main hinge tab to thereby adjust the distance between the lenses of the spectacles and the loupes. Loupes are suspended by pylons from a pair of loupe mount bars and are pivotally adjustable about axes through the pylons to vary the convergence angle of the pair of loupes. Mount bars are adjustable via a thumbscrew attached to the hinge tab saddle, whereby the lateral spacing of the loupes may be varied to thereby accommodate a range of interpupillary distances. Magnification viewer may further include a light mount adapter provided on hinge tab saddle for attaching a light. A pivotal attachment between light mount adapter and light permits adjustment of light to illuminate a desired area within the field of vision of magnification viewer.

The light-weight clinical viewer includes a two-element objective lens and a single-element eyepiece lens. Use of multiple lenses allows for a more compact package. The doublet objective serves to reduce vignetting while providing a wide field of view and reduced chromatic aberration. Image quality is further enhanced, while keeping the weight of the viewer down, through the use in the objective of light-weight high index glass. Moreover, the invention permits the use of a single mounting barrel assembly for different eyepieces to reduce manufacturing costs.

Light-weight three-element clinical viewer

A connector for removably attaching fiberoptic cables to light-transmitting implements such as translucent probes and projection optics is shown and described. A tube is provided with a sleeve which may be fit over the tube. With the sleeve partially fit over the tube, the cable may be inserted in one end of the tube and the implement in the other end. When the sleeve is then pulled or threaded more fully over the tube, tongues provided on the tube move into engagement with the implement and fingers on the tube are locked in place against the cable.

A magnification viewer system includes a pair of magnification viewers adapted to be inserted into apertures in a pair of spectacle lenses to provide a relatively wider field of view and a lighter viewer system. Each magnification viewer includes a two-element objective lens and a single-element eyepiece lens. The doublet objective lens serves to reduce vignetting while providing a wide field of view and reduced chromatic aberration. Image quality may be further enhanced while keeping the weight of the viewer down through the use of light-weight high index glass for the objective lens. Moreover, the invention permits the use of interchangeable eyepiece lenses to provide a series of working distances, as well as interchangeable eyepiece segments to enable the magnification viewers to be corrected to the user's ophthalmic prescription. In order to reduce the criticality of the interpupillary distance, eyepiece lenses are formed with a 16 millimeter (mm) diameter.

Through-the-lens binocular viewer

A mount for affixing devices such as lightweight illuminators to spectacles is described. The mount includes a pair of opposable jaws pivotably affixed together about a pivot axis, the jaws being intended for affixation about spectacles (e.g., the nosebridge of spectacles), and a mounting yoke pivotably affixed to the clip. The mounting yoke may then pivotably bear an illuminator to allow the illuminator to move in three degrees of freedom.

Image quality is further enhanced, while keeping the weight of the viewer down, through the use in the objective of light-weight high index glass.
