An interbody vertebral implant for facilitating fusion of adjacent vertebrae. The implant includes a first end plate, a second end plate, and an intermediate member disposed therebetween. The end plates are configured to allow bone in-growth. The intermediate member may include features to engage the end plates and to prevent over insertion of the intermediate member within the end plates. The implant may include a cavity extending through the composite implant configured to receive bone growth material to facilitate fusion between a first vertebra and a second vertebra.

Interbody vertebral spacer

The present invention is directed to a rotating/non-rotating tibia base plate/insert system. In one illustrative embodiment, the device comprises a tibia base plate, an insert adapted to be positioned above the base plate, and at least one removable pin that, when installed, engages at least a portion of the insert and the base plate to thereby prevent relative rotation between the insert and the base plate. In one illustrative embodiment, the method comprises obtaining a prosthetic knee assembly comprised of a tibia base plate, a tibia insert and a removable pin, the assembly being adapted to be configured in a first state such that the tibia insert may rotate relative to the base plate or in a second state such that said tibia insert cannot rotate relative to said base plate, making at least one incision adjacent a patient's knee, installing the prosthetic knee assembly in the patient, wherein the removable pin is removed such that the assembly is in the first state wherein the tibia insert may rotate relative to the tibia base plate, and closing the incision.

Rotating/non-rotating tibia base plate/insert system

A surgical instrument for establishing and verifying cutting depth and alignment includes a distal saw drill guide, a rod adaptor removably mounted on the distal saw drill guide and a modular alignment rod removably mounted on the rod adaptor. The distal saw drill guide includes pin apertures for receiving a plurality of pins for locating the distal saw drill guide on the distal end of a femur. A distal saw block is mounted on the pins in replacement of the distal saw drill guide the rod adaptor and the alignment rod. A stylus is adjustably attached to a stylus block which is movably mounted on the distal saw block. The rod adaptor and modular alignment rod are movably mounted on the distal saw block in replacement of the stylus and stylus block.

Unicompartmental replacement instrument and method

A surgical measuring instrument includes a caliper having pin apertures formed therein for mounting on surgical pins in a first skeletal member. An adaptor includes pin apertures on a first portion for mounting on the surgical pins when the caliper is removed, and includes adaptor pins extending from a second portion for engagement with the caliper. A rod is connected to the caliper for indicating alignment and flexibility of a second skeletal member relative to the first skeletal member.

Incremental varus/valgus and flexion/extension measuring instrument

An implantable orthopedic knee joint prosthesis includes a femoral component having an internal box geometry defined by a bone-engaging surface configured as a primary prosthesis. The femoral component has a threaded bore therein communicating with the bone-engaging surface. An adapter has a mating surface complementary to the box geometry of the femoral component and an internal box geometry defined by a bone-engaging surface configured as a revision prosthesis. A hole through the adapter is aligned with the threaded bore of the femoral component and has a recessed shoulder. An adapter screw has a head and a threaded shank, the head sized to be received within the hole of the adapter in engagement with the shoulder, and the shank being sized to be threadedly received within the threaded bore of the femoral component. The adapter screw includes a threaded bore therein. A spacer has a mating surface complementary to the box geometry of the adapter and an internal box geometry defined by a bone-engaging surface configured as a revision prosthesis. The spacer has a hole therethrough aligned with the threaded bore of the adapter screw. A spacer screw has a head and a threaded shank, the shank being sized to be threadedly received within the threaded bore of the adapter screw.

Implantable knee joint prosthesis convertible from primary to revision

A self-venting cement restrictor or bone plug is provided for insertion into the medullary canal of a patient bone during orthopedic surgery. The cement restrictor includes a valve member which accommodates passage of air and body fluids therethrough as the cement restrictor is placed to avoid pressurizing the downstream medullary space. An installation tool is manipulated in the course of cement restrictor installation for shifting the valve member to a closed position, whereby the cement restrictor retains bone cement introduced subsequently under pressure within the upstream medullary space.

Self-venting intramedullary cement restrictor

An intercondylar notch cutter using a plunge milling bit and bit guide which engages parallel tracks in a trial prosthesis. The intercondylar notch cutter comprises a cutting bit and a guide sleeve. The cutting bit can be thrust into the femur and then translated through the femur cutting a notch without removing the trial prosthesis. The bit is supported by a guide or housing with a guide platform which extends medially and laterally from the guide. Two condyle articulating surfaces on the platform slidingly engage a condyle surface on a trial prosthesis. Along the condyle surfaces on the trial prosthesis are two parallel grooves. Posts on the notch cutter are slidingly received within the grooves. A surgeon first places the trial implant on the femur without cutting an intercondylar notch. The surgeon can proceed immediately to cut an intercondyle notch without removing the femoral trial prosthesis.

Intercondylar notch cutter for posterior stabilized femoral knee

A posterior stabilized knee prosthesis with removable pin in the femoral component. The removable pin has a tapered split ring lock which prevents the pin from backing out. A split ring is provided on the pin which rides in a groove on the pin. When the pin is properly seated, the split ring engages a corresponding groove within the femoral prosthesis, locking the pin in place. Chamfers are provided on both the front and back of the split ring so that the split ring will compress as the pin is being screwed into the femoral component and also so that the pin can be removed if necessary.
