A telepresence device comprising: a body; a camera apparatus; a first microphone; a loudspeaker; a transceiver receiving port, the transceiver receiving port operable to connect a detachable transceiver to the body; and a processor coupled to the camera apparatus, the first microphone, the loudspeaker, and the transceiver receiving port, the processor operable to communicate with an electronic communications device, wherein the transceiver receiving port is configured to couple the detachable transceiver to the processor when the detachable transceiver is connected to the body at the transceiver receiving port to enable the telepresence device to wirelessly communicate with a headset.

Telepresence system with advanced wireless operations

A system, method, and apparatus are disclosed whereby a wireless Personal Area Network such as a Bluetooth piconet may be extended to a remote location beyond the normal range by means of a conferencing connection. The conferencing connection may comprise, for example, one or more ISDN lines or an IP connection between two or more conference endpoints. The broadband connection may include a video channel, an audio channel, a control channel, and a Bluetooth channel.

System, method, and apparatus for extending wireless personal area networks using conferencing connection

A videoconferencing station is disclosed which includes apparatus for establishing a wireless Personal Area Network (PAN) in the immediate vicinity of the videoconferencing station. In one preferred embodiment, the PAN is a Bluetooth piconet. A Bluetooth-enabled cellular telephone may then be used to make an audio connection via the telephone network to a remote user not in a conference room equipped with a videoconferencing station. The remote user may thereby participate in at least the audio portion of the videoconference. Video portions of the conference may similarly be transmitted if video-enabled phones are used.
