The present disclosure relates to plastic or polymeric container with reclosable zippers which make the package child-resistant. In one typical embodiment, this is achieved by a zipper with a high internal opening force and a low external opening force, wherein three flanges are sealed to the bag walls, and one external flange is left unsealed. In order to encounter the low external opening force, the user must grab the unsealed external flange while applying an external opening force to the zipper.

Child-resistant reclosable bags

A reclosable gusseted bag is disclosed wherein a single web multiple alignment zipper is placed around the interior of the mouth of the bag, downwardly adjacent from the upper edge of the front panel, rear panel and side gussets thereby resulting in an increased size of opening as the mouth of the gusseted bag. The use of a single web multiple alignment zipper allows opposing portions of the web to engage each other within a range of alignments thereby allowing for simplified use by the consumer.

The present disclosure relates to a leak-resistant slider zipper. The zipper typically includes end seals at the opening and closing ends of the zipper, an upper and a lower set of interlocking elements, first and second upper flanges above the upper interlocking elements having no gaps or cut-outs therein, and first and second lower flanges below the lower interlocking elements, one of the lower flanges being folded back on itself, and a slider.

The disclosure relates to a zipper for a reclosable bag wherein the zipper is designed to make additional sound during operation, and further provide an increased tactile response. The zipper profile is manufactured by forming cuts in the profile, and then the profile is stretched so that the cuts become gaps. These gaps cause additional sound during operation of the zipper.

The method and apparatus relates to providing a slit, perforation, line of weakness or similar structure in a flange of a zipper for a reclosable package or bag, including a high-capacity zipper. The slit, perforation, line of weakness or similar structure provides an opening for filling the reclosable package or bag without the need to separate the zipper profiles from each other. After filling, the opening is sealed and the cosmetic appearance of the reclosable package or bag is maintained.

The embodiments include a wide mouth gusseted package wherein four machine direction edge seals are formed on the film, and the zipper is applied in the transverse direction on the opposite side of the film from where the machine direction edge seals are formed. In the resulting package, the edge seals are at the exterior of the four corners of the package, and the resulting gussets can be folded inwardly or outwardly. The package may further include a sealing strip with a peel seal layer and a sealant layer whereby a hermetic package may be produced at higher production rates and lower productions costs.

A reclosable zipper is illustrated, which includes a first profile having a first interlocking element, a first consumer side flange with a first consumer side intermeshing contour and a first product side flange with a first product side intermeshing contour. The zipper includes a second profile which includes a second interlocking element, a second consumer side flange with a second consumer side intermeshing contour, and a second product side flange with a second product side intermeshing contour. The first and second consumer side intermeshing contours are complementary intermeshing contours and the first and second product side intermeshing contours are complementary intermeshing contours. As a result, when the interlocking elements are engaged, the first and second consumer side intermeshing contours are capable of intermeshing and the first and second product side intermeshing contours are capable of intermeshing.

The disclosure relates to a reclosable zipper for a package or bag wherein apertures are formed at periodic package-width intervals passing through the interlocking elements of the zipper profiles in order to minimize the mass of zipper material in areas where side seals of packages or bags will be subsequently formed. The otherwise interlocking elements upstream of, or at the trailing edge of, the apertures are deformed so as to prevent interlocking of the elements through a limited area. This allows a separator pin to pass through the area of the apertures and pass between the zipper profiles, eliminating or reducing the collision of the separator with the zipper profiles and subsequent potential damage to the zipper profiles.

Zipper hole punch treatment

A zipper assembly for a reclosable package or bag is disclosed. The zipper assembly includes two profiles with flanges and internal interlocking elements on the interior of the flanges. The exterior of one of the flanges includes two exterior parallel press-to-close profile-like interlocking elements which are brought into engagement with each other by folding the flanges of the zipper assembly. This increases the burst handling capability of the zipper assembly and the package or bag to which it is attached. Alternatives include substituting a peel seal for the exterior interlocking element as well as an exterior label or sticker to maintain the flanges in a folded configuration.

The use of coextruded or integral sealing ribs on zipper flanges enhances the quality of the sealing between the flanges and the walls of a reclosable package. The coextruded sealing ribs may be made from sealing resins or similar materials. Additionally, grip strips are placed on the opposite side of the flanges from the ribs in order to improve the quality of the sealing even further and to inhibit inner flange sealing.
