A system and method is described that allows a system operator to remotely detect and diagnose a voice-enabled cable modem that has entered a chattering line state so that appropriate steps may be taken to avoid or rectify any of the problems that may result from this condition. Logic within the voice-enabled cable modem monitors for pulse dialing activity and/or excessive hook state and/or flash events that may be attributed to a faulty telephone and/or telephone line connected to the voice-enabled cable modem. Responsive to detecting such conditions, the logic within the voice-enabled cable modem reports a fault condition to an external management system via a cable data network.

Chattering line detection system and method

A system and method is provided for supplying power over a home phone line network in a manner that is interoperable with other voice and data services operating on the same network. The system includes a power source coupled to the home phone line network. The power source includes an AC signal generator that generates an AC signal at a selected frequency. The power source also includes a band pass filter for removing unwanted harmonics from the AC signal, thereby generating a filtered AC signal for powering one or more devices on the home phone line network. One or more devices attached to the home phone line network, such as a telephone adapter or telephone, receives the filtered AC signal. Each device comprises a second band pass filter and an AC/DC converter. The second band pass filter passes the filtered AC signal to the AC/DC converter and prevents the introduction of undesired harmonics onto the home phone line network from the AC/DC converter. The AC/DC converter converts the filtered AC signal to a DC signal used for powering the device.

System and method for providing power over a home phone line network

A power output controller includes an output stage, a sensing circuit that compares an output voltage of the output stage with a reference voltage, and a digital controller that controls output pulses that charge the output stage with a frequency that is dependent on an output of the sensing circuit.

Programmable dual mode hysteretic power output controller

A monostable circuit with device-status feedback control to an external timing terminal is used to controllably change the magnetization state of a ferrite phase shifter core. A pair of such bistable circuits with suitable feedback controls permits a single command pulse of controlled duration to controllably both reset a ferrite core to a saturated magnetic state and then subsequently set the core to a desired non-saturated magnetization state (corresponding to the time duration of the single command pulse). By addition of suitable steering circuits, the controlled resetting and setting of one or more pairs of such ferrite cores can also be achieved using the same single command pulse. The ability to both reset and set plural ferrite phase shifter cores with but a single command pulse of controlled duration permits considerable simplification of beam steering control wiring for a two-dimensional phased array of RF radiators (e.g., so as to provide electronic beam steering control).
