A lightweight, monaural communications headset is disclosed which is readily adjustable to be worn on either the right or left ear of a wearer. The disclosed headset consists of two housings, one for holding electronic circuitry for the headset, and the other for holding an acoustical transmitter. The two housings are coupled with a swivel or ball-and-socket coupling, so that the device may be positioned behind either the right or left ear of a wearer. The transmitter housing is provided with acoustical port holes on both of its sides to further facilitate the reversible wearing of the device. The disclosed headset is constructed from lightweight materials so that it is self-supporting, and causes minimal discomfort to the wearer.

Communications headset

A miniaturized headset for two-way voice communication is supported and positioned by the notch in the concha portion of a wearer's ear. The headset is reversible and may be worn on either the left or right ear. The earpiece includes sound output ports located therein to provide for alignment of a port with the auditory canal of either of the headset wearer's ears. The earpiece is disposed within the concha of the wearer's ear and outside the auditory canal.

Miniaturized headset for two-way voice communication

A new voice tube assembly for post-auricle headsets is disclosed. In one aspect of the invention, first and second curved, rigid tubular sections are employed to connect a flexible main voice tube section with the top of a post-auricle capsule containing a microphone and a receiver. The curved, rigid tubing sections are rotatable to maximize positional flexibility. In a second aspect of the invention, a shaping wire is included throughout a substantial portion of the length of the main voice tube section. The shaping wire is employed in order to permit the use of thinner and lighter material for the main voice tube section, and to facilitate shaping of the main voice tube section to the geometry of the wearer's face and locating of the open end of the main voice tube section adjacent the wearer's mouth.

Voice tube assemblies for post-auricle headsets

A miniaturized headset of the post-auricle type is disclosed. The headset microphone may be located in the capsule, or at the end of a swivelable boom near the wearer's mouth. In either case, the headset capsule is contoured to fit over the mastoid process of the skull, in order to provide better weight distribution, comfort and stability. The headset capsule is further contoured by providing a front-to-back concavity in the upper portions of the capsule's sides, so as to generally conform to the curvature of the wearer's head.
